Chapter 1: The Runaway Half-Elf

The forest was as green as ever.
Rem leant against a giant tree without a care in the world. Its giant roots twisted all around, creating a perfect little gap for her slender body to slide into. Though a little cramped, it was her favourite place in the entire village. Every now and then a slight breeze of wind would rustle her maroon hair, as well as the white flower she had stuck into her headband on a whim.
"How boring..." Rem muttered to herself as her dark green eyes gazed idly at the evening sky. Well, sort of. You see, the elf village she lived in was located within a dense forest of giant trees. The leaves and branches covered the sky like a roof, giving her only small glimpses of its true colour. Even so, she didn't feel like the place was gloomy. Rather, she found the dim atmosphere to be quite calming and pleasant.
"Haa... Yaaawn..."
A huge yawn escaped her mouth. This was the perfect environment to fall asleep, even more so since she was alone. However, that was something she had to avoid at all costs. Though it might not have looked like it, she was carrying out an important duty. Her small mind couldn't even imagine the words of abuse that would be hurled her way if the other villagers found her dozing off. Rem grasped the small sword at her hip, leapt up, and turned to face the tree she had been leaning against.
In this forest of trees so massive even the most nimble of elves had difficulty climbing them, there was one that grew taller and wider than any other, the oldest of all trees, named the Tree of Origin by the elders. Though the forest was far older than the elves who lived there, legends told that it had all originated from a single tree, the very same Rem had been assigned to guard. It sure showed its age, with its bark all dried and cracked, and its trunk leaning against the cliffside behind it, bearing a great resemblance to a human elder like the ones Rem sometimes saw in books.
"What does this old guy need protecting for anyway?"
Since elves lived as one with the forest, it's understandable that they'd treat the old tree with great respect. The sacred vicennial festival that was happening in just a month would be held in the clearing in front of it, as well. Rem hadn't been born yet when the last one was held, and as such, didn't really know what to expect. Be that as it may, she just couldn't help but to wonder why she, the youngest girl in the village, was forced to keep company with the mute, rotting elder.
Finding herself a little sad, Rem took another look at her outfit. She was wearing a deep green dress with a wide hem, and a small vest on top of it. Her legs, visible in the gap between her dress and knee-high boots, were in perfect health, if a little thin. She had picked clothes that would be easy to move in to make sure she was always ready for battle, and hadn't been slacking off during her training with the bow and the sword, either. Her shoulders were exposed, and though this did emphasize her sexual side a tiny bit more, "sexy" still wasn't the word she'd use to describe herself. Rem had been told to protect the tree, and you can bet she was going to give that mission her all.
Not that she actually thought her preparedness would someday be put to use.
"This isn't a job for a young girl. All they want is for me to wither away here, just like that tree."
She was certain of this. Why, you ask? Well, Rem wasn't like the other children.
The villagers had always stared at her coldly. Even so, she didn't have any other place to live, and though her job was so boring she felt like she was going to die, not even once had she let out a complaint. But, she was starting to reach her limit. It had been ten years since the elders who ruled the village had given her this duty. All she ever did was stare at the old tree. She was absolutely sick of it.
"Argh! I can't take this anymore!"
As if trying to vent off her frustration, she dashed towards the Tree of Origin and ran up it, landing on its lowest branch. The other elves probably could have made it a little higher, but Rem's legs weren't strong enough for that. She loved the scenery from up here. And at the same time, she hated it.
The forest grew on a mountain with a peak that had sunk in and turned into a valley. The village itself was located inside that valley, and was surrounded by tall walls from every side, with a never-ending ocean of green spreading in all directions beyond them. Legends said that somewhere out there existed a land populated by races other than elves.
"I wonder what kind of a place that is..."
Every time Rem saw this scenery, her heart was filled with a yearning for the outside world. Sometimes she wondered, was this really where she belonged? She felt like someone was calling for her, and all of a sudden, her body became completely weightless, as if she was floating in the sky.
"Hey, half-elf!"
However, that grating yell immediately brought Rem back to reality. She looked down, and saw a male elf with a wry look on his face standing by the base of the tree.
"How many times do I need to tell you not to climb the sacred tree, half-elf? Hurry up and get down, it's time for the shift change."
"Yeah right, 'shift change'..." she cursed in her head. She had always hated the man. He was exceptionally tall for an elf, had long, messy hair, and a beard he was too lazy to shave. While his unclean appearance was bad enough, what Rem disliked about him the most was his complete lack of responsibility.
The guard duty was supposed to be handled in pairs. The man couldn't stand being with Rem, however, and switched his watch to be during the night instead. His excuse was that since Rem was a child, he'd take care of the night. But, Rem was too smart to believe that. She knew that as soon as the original guard team arrived, the three left their posts to go drinking, leaving the tree all by itself.
Not that she really cared what he did. She'd way rather spend her days bored out of her mind than with him hanging around. There was just one thing she couldn't let slide.
"I told you not to call me a half-elf", Rem complained while reluctantly climbing down the tree. The man put his hands on his hips, and gave her a despising look.
"Well, that's what you are. Like your ears, they're half the length of the rest of us."
As if to mock Rem, the man lined his finger with his ear. They were around the same size. Rem's ears were certainly quite small compared to his. Not only that, her breasts were bigger than those of pretty much any other woman in the whole village. This was no doubt due to her partly-human blood. Still, why did her body being slightly different matter so much? Unable to suppress her anger, she gave the man a sharp glare.
"The hell are you looking at me like that for? Good grief... What where the elders thinking, leaving such an important duty to someone like you?"
If it's so important, then how about you actually do it for once instead of drinking!? Rem wanted to scream. However, right before those words escaped her mouth, she realised the sarcasm in the man's statement, and asked the following instead.
"By 'someone like you', do you mean the fact that I'm a child, or that I'm a half-elf?"
"Huh? Isn't it obvious? Both."
Rem snorted at the instantaneous answer, and turned her back to the man. She couldn't stand being in his presence for any longer, and rushed back home, trampling the grass beneath her feet on the way.
Though she didn't like it, she had to admit that she was, indeed, still a child. You see, Rem was only sixteen years old, and for the eternally young elves that was pretty much the same as being an infant.
"But, it's not my fault that I'm a half-elf."
Rem was of mixed blood, born to an elf and a human. To make her birth even more unusual, both of her parents had been women. She didn't believe this at first, of course, but after overhearing some conversations between her relatives, it appeared that using the secret elven arts had made it possible. The most secret ones, the sealed taboo arts.
Having broken the rules by using these arts, Rem's mother had attempted to escape the village with her newly-born daughter. She was eventually captured and brought back, however, and semi-imprisoned in her house under constant surveillance. Rem had been just a baby at the time, and so she didn't really know any details, only what others had told her. The only things she did remember were the guards outside their house, how kind her mother always was, and how sad she looked at times.
A few years back, her mother passed away. Rem was adopted by her aunt, and immediately assigned to guard the Tree of Origin. The sin had been passed from the mother to the daughter, and it was now her turn to atone.
"This is so stupid. What wrong did she ever do?"
Is it really that grave of a sin to have a child with a human? While Rem's mother had certainly seemed sad at times, it wasn't always like that. She was so happy whenever she told Rem stories of her "other mother". For this reason Rem had never felt any shame for her half-elf status.
On her way to her aunt's house, Rem took a look at the trees above her. It was the same view she saw every single day. Bridges built from ivy hanging between different tree branches, as well as farmers and hunters walking on them, returning home after a long day of work. They all worked really hard, no doubt about that. But to Rem, they all seemed strangely laid back.
Elves. A race of eternally young creatures, protected by tall walls and a dense forest. They feared contact with the other races, and were perfectly content with their peaceful way of life, in total isolation from the outside world. Except for Rem. She couldn't stand it.
Her elders often told her she only felt this way since she was a child. Or that her human blood was the source of her heretical thoughts.
"What do you know about the world!? If you really hate half-elves that much, then just banish me!"
For the elders who valued purity above all else, Rem's mixed blood was the source of much shame. They had to hide her, she had heard.
"I'm not joking! I will leave this village one day!"
Rem knew that the cruelty towards her would likely continue for hundreds, if not thousands of years. That's if she even lasted that long; she'd probably end up going insane from boredom before that.
Thankfully, she wouldn't have to wait too long for a chance to escape. Rem stopped in her tracks, and turned to look behind her. The last rays of the setting sun caused the Tree of Origin to cast a large shadow above the village, almost like a symbol that tied all elves together. Rem gave it a sharp glance, as if challenging this binding spell, and began running towards her home.

"I'm home, Aunt Amita."
"Sure took you a while. Could you start preparing dinner?"
She found her aunt sewing. Rem's aunt, Amita, had a daughter of her own. She was going to be married preceding the vicennial festival, and since sewing was Amita's forte, she had been entrusted with making the bride's dress. Having a pure white and glossy dress made from the fine thread of mist spiders was a crucial part of the wedding ceremony of this village.
Amita didn't give Rem so much as a look when the girl walked in, and simply continued working. Her being busy with the dress wasn't the only reason for this, mind you; the two had never really talked much. Though Rem was the orphan child of her late younger sister, she was also a taboo child, and adopting her certainly hadn't made Amita's life any easier.
Though ten times older than Rem, compared to the other villagers Amita was still relatively young. She was quite the beautiful lady, with sleek, maroon hair, and almond eyes. Despite this, her life hadn't had much romance to speak of, and she always had a dull look on her face, most likely due to the sins her sister had committed, as well as the burden taking care of Rem had placed on her. While Rem didn't think she or her mother had done anything wrong, she did feel sorry towards her aunt for having to take in a nuisance like herself.
Well, good thing it'll be over soon.
Once Rem left the village, her aunt would never again have to see the face of the girl she so despised.
"Hey, Aunt. My mother married a human, right?"
"Why are you bringing this up...?"
Amita paused her sewing and looked up, clearly uncomfortable. This was a topic she most definitely did not enjoy talking about, which was exactly why Rem made sure to bring it up at every opportunity. Not only did she simply wish to know more about her mother, but making her aunt hate her would avoid breaking Amita's heart when time came for Rem to disappear.
"Is it true that elves and humans can't get along? I wonder how my mother was able to do it then. I want to meet a human too, and see for myself."
"You can't!"
Rem shrugged her shoulders at her aunt's fierce rebuke. Though it was her goal to make Amita hate her, seeing her so angry certainly didn't feel good.
"But..."
"No buts! Just as we elves hate humans, humans hate us. They'll kill you on sight, or if you're lucky, take you as a slave. Curiosity was the ruin of my sister, don't let it be yours as well..."
Rem clenched her fists. There was no way she'd let her aunt get away with talking ill of her mother.
"Is that what you call their love, 'curiosity'? It was her 'ruin'?"
"How many times do I have to...? I don't want to talk about this anymore."
Rem's questions were left without an answer. She didn't want to hurt her aunt's feelings, not after all the good she had done for her. No, she only did it to reach her goal.

The night five days before the vicennial festival. It was time for Rem's plan to be put into effect.
Preparations for the festival were going smoothly. The villagers were excited for the wedding ceremony of Amita's daughter too, which would precede the event. Everyone was invited. Except for Rem. Couldn't have the black sheep of the family be around to ruin all the fun, now could they? For once she was actually happy to be treated this way. Pretty much the entire village would be gathered in one place, giving her a perfect opportunity to slip away unnoticed.
After leaving a letter she had written previously at her aunt's desk, Rem began making her way towards one of the cracks in the walls surrounding the village she knew led to the outside world. With a small sword at her hip, a bow and a quiver on her back, and her body wrapped in a hooded cloak, she travelled swiftly through the twilit village.
The sounds of celebration grew quieter with each step she took. She had no regrets, however. Rather, for the first time in her life she felt genuinely free. This unparalleled excitement caused Rem to increase her walking speed a little. Just then, she remembered something very important she had forgotten, and decided to make a small detour. Hidden within a grove of small trees stood a simple tombstone, separated from the rest of the graves. There lay her mother. Rem had come to bid her farewell.
"Goodbye, Mother... If.... If I ever return, I promise I'll do so with my other... my human mother..."
She was certain that her human mother wanted to meet her as well. Using that as a justification for running away, Rem swiped away her tears, and left the elf forest.

However, setting off to an unknown world turned out to not be such a simple affair.
It took Rem no less than five days to make her way out of the forest, mostly due to rain clouds blocking her view of the sun, and her losing track of where she was going as a result. The food she had prepared had also run out, and she had had to spend a lot of time searching around for nuts and berries to eat.
Rem spent her nights sleeping in trees, constantly on guard in case a wild animal attacked her, and her days looking for food. She didn't feel like she was making any real progress, and her body was about to give up. Though she tried to deny it, Rem felt helpless. No one was going to save her. Even so, the thought of turning back never crossed her mind; her current suffering was nothing compared to the never-ending, soul-crushing humiliation she'd face if she were to return to the village.
The further away she travelled from the village, the more the scenery around her changed. The trees here were considerably smaller than the giant ones back home. And then, she finally reached the edge of the forest. Rem was dumbfounded at the sight spreading in front of her eyes.
There weren't any trees, just open fields as far as the eye could see. She was at a complete loss for words. Though Rem had heard of a thing called 'horizon' back at the village, seeing it for herself was just something else. However, that sensation of awe was quickly replaced with something else, fear of beasts. There weren't any places to hide. She decided to wait until night before moving forwards.
It didn't take long before she got used to her new surroundings, however, and soon she was able to walk during the day as well.
The first humans Rem saw were farmers working in what appeared to be an orchard. They didn't seem that different from elves at first, but what caught her eye was the shape of their ears. They were quite short, and more importantly, round. From the books she had read she knew they'd be different, just not this different.
Their physique was surprisingly distinct, as well. Looking at their large and muscular bodies made Rem realize just how slender elves really were. It'd probably be trivial for them to pick her up and snap her in half. Though half-human, Rem understood that she was just like any other elf to them.
If a human ever finds you, they will kill you.
Her aunt's words rushed into her mind. She spent the following night fully awake, quivering in a tree hollow.
Even so, she had no regrets.
"Right. I've only seen what humans look like. It's too early to be afraid, I haven't even tried communicating with them yet."
Rem was already up when the sun rose the following morning, with her strategy for learning more about humans in full swing. The first step was to observe their behaviour from a safe hiding place. She was able to understand their speech relatively well, perhaps due to them living so close to the elf village. Simply knowing that mutual communication was possible did wonders to ease her fears.
At first Rem would 'borrow' food from farmhouses, but soon learned there were actually places which provided it. Using the robe to hide both her body and ears, she was able to get herself bread and soup. However, that's where the problems began. You see, Rem didn't have any human money. When asked for a payment she panicked and began running for her life, with all sorts of curses calling her a thief hurled after her. She was able to escape, thankfully. Three days had passed since then, however, and she still had eaten nothing.
"Whoa..."
Rem couldn't believe the sight in front of her eyes. The first thing she saw as she exited a small forest she had been travelling through were enormous town walls. They surrounded a hill, on top of which stood a massive castle with white walls and multiple towers, all of which had pointed, blue roofs. Though Rem had heard of such a mighty castle existing in the elf capital as well, her home village was just a small, rural town, consisting solely of simple houses built from things naturally found in the forest. This was easily the largest building she had ever seen.
"W-Well, it's still smaller than the Tree of Origin..." she muttered, pretending she wasn't completely overwhelmed by its sheer size. However, as big as the castle was, the walls themselves weren't all that tall. Over the past few days Rem had learned that while humans were incredibly strong, they were far less agile than elves. These walls were likely just designed to be impossible for a human to climb over.
"But for me it's a complete cakewalk! Hehe!"
There were soldiers stationed by the gate, checking everyone who passed by. Naturally, Rem wasn't planning on walking through there. Having found a place near the wall with no one around she placed her foot on one of the many stones sticking out from it, and after a count to three, took a giant leap upwards.
"There we go!"
After just a few more jumps Rem reached the top of the wall. From there she spotted some tall bushes, which she used to ensure a safe landing on her way down. And just like that, she was in.
Rem pulled the hood back over her head. She had made it this far without anyone realising she was an elf. There were many things she had learned over the past few days, one being that simply covering her ears was enough to walk around without raising suspicion.
"This is going quite well... I can probably move a little more daringly and still be fine."
She let out a small giggle. Unable to suppress her curiosity, she trotted towards the town.
"Oooooh..."
Rem stared at the main street of the town in awe. This was nothing at all like her own, or any of the other human villages she had seen. There were three-story buildings made of stone everywhere, with bright red and orange roofs. The wide streets were tilted slightly uphill, leading to the aforementioned castle overlooking the town.
The sheer amount of people was also beyond anything she had seen. There were people everywhere you looked, and she could barely hear her own thoughts over the constant chatter. It was way too much for her sensitive elf ears, and the anxiety she had managed to hold down was starting to resurface.
"Incredible... This is one of those castle towns, huh?"
Though Rem certainly would have preferred there to be more natural elements instead of everything being man-made, the sheer number of new things she had never seen before was making her head spin. She spent some time just walking around, trying to take in everything she was seeing, when all of a sudden she was stopped on her tracks by a loud voice coming from behind her:
"Hey, miss! Come eat this!"
Rem jumped a little, almost falling on her face. With her lips trembling from fear, she turned her head towards the voice. There was a food cart there, loaded with a countless number of fruits. A large, bearded man who Rem assumed was its owner stood next to it, holding out a bright red fruit. She hadn't eaten anything for the past three days, and just the thought of food made her mouth water. Rem was about to extend her hand, when she suddenly remembered something very important.
"Sorry... I just came here from the countryside... I don't have any money..."
"Ahaha, knew it! I could tell from the way you walked. Anyway, sorry for scaring you. You can have this one for free as an apology."
"Huh...? F-For real!?"
Unable to believe what she had just heard, Rem's eyes bounced back and forth between the fruit and the man holding it. He nodded with a bright smile on his face, and with no hesitation Rem grabbed the fruit from his hand.
Humans this kind really exist?
Though the man looked scary, if he was going to give Rem something to eat for free, he must have been a good person.
So that whole "just as we elves hate humans, humans hate us" thing probably isn't true either, huh?
Her aunt and the others had never actually been outside the village. Their opinions on humans were likely based on nothing but wild, over-exaggerated rumours. That's what Rem began to think. All of a sudden she was filled to the brink with hope and optimism. She felt safer than before too, knowing that she understood enough of the human language to have full conversations with them.
However, those thoughts could wait. The delicious-looking fruit in front of her had her full attention.
"Bon appétit!"
Sweet juices filled Rem's mouth as her teeth bit into the red peel. It tasted like heaven. However, just as she opened her mouth wide, about to take the biggest bite of her life, she heard something happening behind her. The sea of people flooding the main street suddenly parted, as if clearing the road.
"Oh! Has the Princess returned?"
"Princess?"
Trying to see what the fruit seller was looking at, Rem heard the sound of clopping. Just then, a carriage drawn by four white horses appeared from amidst the crowd of people.
"Wow, what a pretty carriage... Is that the Princess? Was she on a journey or something?" Rem asked the fruit seller next to her. The man answered her, clearly a little uncomfortable.
"Well, you could say that... She got married recently and went to live with her husband, but the man divorced her soon after. To put it short, she's moving back home. Still, this is what, the third time? Didn't even last a week. That must be a new record."
"Huh? Do humans really get married that many times?"
"Absolutely not! One and done, that's how it normally goes. I don't know why, but for some reason the Princess always ends up being sent bac— Wait, did you just say 'humans'?"
The man stared at her, confused. Rem slapped her hands on her mouth, but it was too late. In the midst of panic she realized the fruit was no longer in her hand, and was instead flying through the air. She instantly swooped towards the falling fruit in an attempt to catch it. However, the sudden movement caused her hood to fall down.
"You're an elf!" the man yelled after seeing Rem's ears. His voice was loud enough to be heard over the noise of the crowd, and all the people around them simultaneously turned to look at Rem.
"I... Umm... I'm..."
"You dirty elf thief! You better pay me right now, or else!"
"Huh!? You said it was free!"
Now knowing that he was talking to an elf, the man's attitude changed completely. Rem was at a loss for words over his total mood swing. She looked around at the people surrounding her, all of who seemed just as angry. They shook with rage, staring at her as if she had just murdered someone.
"I'm... Uuuh... I'm so sorry...!" Rem apologized, although not sure for what. The people had her surrounded. She knew there was only one way out and jumped as high as she could, soaring through the sky and landing on the roof of one of the houses. Up there Rem began planning an escape route. Below her she could see men and women of all ages screaming "there's an elf". Many of them had farming tools pulled out, holding them like weapons.
"Please stop! I-I've done nothing wron—"
Rem's words were cut short by the rocks and other objects being hurled in her direction. Using the robe to shield her body from them, she dashed from roof to roof. Thankfully the crowd chasing her was way too dense for their own good, and was unable to keep up with the young elf's high speed and sharp turns. Having spent most of their energy pushing and shoving each other, her pursuers soon gave up. Knowing this was her chance, Rem leapt over the main street, aiming towards the rooftops on the opposite side.
While in the air, she saw a young girl leaning out of the carriage below her, with her golden, curly hair blowing in the wind. Though Rem still wasn't confident in her ability to judge how old humans were, if she had to guess, the girl was probably around her age.
This must have been the Princess everyone was talking about. The small tiara on her head, as well as the bright red gemstone placed in the black choker tied around her neck glittered in the sunlight. However, brighter than either of those shined her immense beauty. The very being of the girl showed off her noble birth. Entranced by the sight in front of her eyes, Rem completely forgot that she was supposed to be running away.

Who in their right mind would divorce such a beautiful lady? Rem apologized in her heart for disturbing the Princess in her time of sorrow.
Just then, their eyes met. Though similarly green to Rem's, the girl's eyes were slanted upwards, giving her a much more determined look. They stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, as if time itself had stopped.
Is she... smiling?
Rem was bewildered by her expression. Her eyes shining bright with curiosity, her pale pink lips raised into a smile, her innocent, slightly blushing cheeks, none of these gave any hints of sadness.
Of course, in reality their encounter only lasted for a few seconds. Being in midjump, Rem flew right over the carriage below her. Maybe she had just misseen things? That was certainly a possibility. Still, even after climbing the town walls and making her way to the nearby forest, the girl's curious expression just wouldn't leave Rem's mind.

"That was rough..."
An entire day had passed since then. Rem was still wandering the forest she had escaped to. Though she had originally planned to travel away during the night, the earlier chase had taken all of her energy, and she fell asleep pretty immediately after getting to safety. Rem couldn't believe how careless she had been. What if the humans had chased after her?
Thankfully, that didn't seem to be the case. They were probably too busy to be running around the woods, looking for a single elf girl. Even so, there was no way she could return to the town. Rem hadn't expected them to be quite that hostile towards elves. She had gotten totally caught up in the town's merry atmosphere, and foolishly assumed that it wouldn't matter if her true identity got exposed.
"I was so scared... Humans really do hate elves..."
Rem had become a first-hand victim of the hatred swirling between their races. Having felt genuine fear for the first time in her life, in the back of her mind she began to wonder if leaving home really had been a good idea.
"No... No! I can't give up yet! There has to be some place where I can live in peace, there has to be!"
She grabbed a fistful of grass, as if to show the strength of her devotion. However, there was one thing she had to take care of before setting out on her journey, and that was filling her growling stomach.
"I didn't get to eat even half of that fruit..."
Being in a forest and all, Rem thought there'd at least be berries or something to eat. However, while she had found some, they were unfortunately all inedible. She was even ready to betray her morals and eat meat, something elves normally never did. All animals seemed to be avoiding her, however, perhaps scared off by the bloodlust now radiating from her.
"Ouch...!"
To make matters worse, she had tripped on a rock, falling flat on her face against the surprisingly hard ground, a mistake quite shameful for an agile elf such as herself.
"I guess I really am just a halfwit half-elf..." Rem sighed, trying to garner sympathy. However, there was no one there to comfort her. Not even anyone to mock her. Her days in the village might have been lonely, but it was nothing compared to this. She had ran away to find happiness, not to be even more miserable.
"What? Was that too selfish of me to ask, to be happy?" she said in frustration, to no one in particular. Rem had been lonely in the village, and was still lonely after leaving it. All she had ever wanted was to escape that feeling.
After Rem's beloved mother died and she was taken in by her aunt, the woman had shown her no affection. It was more like she was monitoring Rem, making sure she didn't commit the same mistakes her mother had. Then again, Rem did end up running away from the village. Her aunt's worries hadn't been completely misplaced.
Still, she just couldn't stand living in that cramped village any longer, being constantly insulted by her own people. Even her relatives didn't trust her. Who could blame her for wanting to leave such a place?
"Is there not a single person out there who doesn't hate me?"
Rem rolled on her back, and screamed in frustration with her eyes shut. In her mind she saw the face of a young girl. It belonged to the Princess, who had stared her with such curiosity. Never before had anyone looked at Rem with such innocent eyes. Because of this, the girl's face was burned clearly into her mind, despite only seeing it for an instant.
"Why...? Why can't I stop thinking about her...?"
Whenever Rem closed her eyes, it felt like the Princess was right there in front of her, holding out her hand.
"Sigh... This is so dumb..."
Was she really so lonely she had begun seeing things? Still, the girl was a human, meaning she hated elves. That smile too, she was probably just amused over how dumb elves looked or something. Even if that wasn't the case, she was a princess. The two girls were from completely different worlds. Not that any of this mattered. It wasn't like the two were ever going to meet again.
"I should stop... Thinking of all this is making my head hurt..."
The fatigue and hunger made it incredibly hard for Rem to focus on anything. Her body was screaming at her to sleep, but doing so here was simply too dangerous.
"Oh...?"
Just then, she noticed something strange. No wonder the ground she was lying on was so damn hard. It wasn't actually ground at all, but rather a stone-paved road.
The road was different from any of the previous ones Rem had seen. It was incredibly well made, with the slight colour variation of each stone forming a beautiful pattern. The stones seemed quite aged as well; the road had clearly been there for a long time. Despite this, there weren't many signs of it having been used, only some faint hoofprints and wheel tracks. Judging by the tracks, it seemed the only traffic this road had seen over the past few days was a single carriage making a round trip. If the road really was used this infrequently, then why had so much time been put into constructing it?
"This way leads to the castle. But what's at the other end...?"
Finding this mystery quite intriguing, Rem set out to see where the road led. Who knows, maybe she would find a place to spend the night. Or maybe even food if she was lucky. It also gave her a reason to get further away from the castle town.
This was easier said than done, however. Her empty stomach made it impossible to run at any reasonable speed. Finally, as the sun was starting to set, Rem saw the end of the road before her. She had suddenly reached a clearing, in middle of which stood a massive structure.
"Another castle...!?"
Rem almost fell on her back from shock. The forest had been too thick for her to see the building before now. After spending few moments calming down, she realised it wasn't actually a castle at all, but rather, a manor. It was still three stories tall, however, with walls so wide Rem couldn't see from one corner to another without turning her head.
"Why would they cut a bunch of trees, and then build something from stone...?"
In the elf village all buildings were made of wood and ivy. Even the stone ones in the elf capital were carved into a mountain, or so Rem had heard. This was something about humans she just couldn't understand; their castles, manors, even the houses of commoners, they were all built from stone that had been carried from somewhere else.
"Why spend all that effort when there's a easier way? Are humans just like, really dumb?"
Either way, if this manor had its own private road leading to it, someone pretty important must have lived there. Rem was now certain she could find food and a place to rest inside.
Those hopes were soon crushed, however. The once beautifully engraved white walls and balcony handrails were now covered in dirt and vines. There was a fountain in the yard, but fallen leaves had clogged it, and no water was coming out. It was more than likely that no one lived here, which meant Rem would be able to sleep safely.
"I really wanted to get some food though..."
She had let her expectations get too high, and the disappointment she felt was immense.
"Wait a minute..."
Rem suddenly remembered those faint wheel tracks she had seen in the forest. While the manor did look deserted, it was still possible that there were people here. If she wanted food, Rem would have no choice but to enter... Was the risk worth the reward?
"It'll be fine, I just need to make sure no one sees me."
Not long after, she had made her decision. Avoiding the front entrance, Rem made her way behind the manor. Just like the front, this side of the building was also infested with weeds. Making sure to watch her step, Rem looked for a window she could use to slip in.
"I feel like a total burglar..."
Eating without paying, breaking and entering, there were quite a few crimes she could have been charged with. Rem let out a deep sigh. She couldn't believe she had become like those scoundrels back at the elf village.
"No! I'm not like them! I only want to find a place to sleep!" she shouted at no one in particular. Just then, she noticed a small window that had been left unlocked. Barely able to stop herself from jumping from joy, Rem opened it, and swooped inside as lightly as a feather, making no noise at all in the process.
Ka-bam
However, just as she landed, the floor under her let out a strange sound and crumbled. After a moment of weightlessness, but before her brain managed to catch up, Rem fell into the pit that had opened below her.
"Eeeeeeek!"
She had let her guard down too soon. The fall wasn't long enough for Rem to rotate her body, causing her to land straight on her butt.
"Ouch ouch ouch..."
Rem fixed her posture while rubbing her tender bottom. For a trap hole this thing sure was narrow; she could barely move her hands around. Through great efforts, mostly because the bow on her back kept getting stuck on the walls, she managed to get back on her feet.
"What the hell is this!?" Rem yelled, in a voice way louder than she had meant. She instantly slapped both of her hands on her mouth. This was a human manor, after all; who knew what horrible things they would do to a captured elf.
Well, it was probably a little too late to be worrying about that. Just then she heard the sound of a door opening, and the footsteps of someone entering the room. As those footsteps got closer, a small candlestick shined light in the darkness of the hole. Knowing she had no way out, Rem held her breath, and tried desperately to hide herself in the corner.
"Oh my, what do we have here? A young, female burglar?"
Rem stared eyes wide open at the figure peeking down into the trap hole. The dim light shining from the candlestick revealed the person to be a woman, or rather, a girl. Her golden, curly hair waved gently in the air. Rem recognized her face immediately, and shouted:
"You're that divorced princess!?"
"How rude of you, but yes, you are correct."
There was no mistaking it. Though their paths had crossed only for a moment, the girl's beautiful, turquoise eyes and pale pink lips were fresh in Rem's memory. She had taken off her tiara, but the black choker was still tied around her neck, with its red gemstone shining in the candle's light. Rem hadn't been sure if she'd ever meet the girl again, and certainly wasn't expecting it to happen this soon.
However, she seemed quite different from yesterday. Her bright smile was replaced with a frown, and the shine of curiosity in her eyes was all gone. It was clear that she was tired, barely managing to keep her eyes open.
"Princess, do you happen to be the owner of this manor?" Rem inquired, wondering what had caused this change.
"Yes, indeed. This is my vacation home. You entered without knowing that? I've never seen a thief quite so foolish."
"I'm not a thief!"
"Yes, yes, sure you're not. That's what they all say. You don't really think I'd fall for that, do you?"
Rem tried to protest, but the girl simply waved her hand, as if mocking her. She had decided Rem was a thief, and wasn't going to listen to a single word she had to say. Sitting at the bottom of the trap hole, Rem ground her teeth, boiling with anger.
"This manor is filled with traps of all sorts to keep burglars like you away, and yet you somehow managed to land yourself in the most basic one of them all. Quite fitting, I suppose; A foolish trap for a foolish thief."
Once again, she had called Rem a fool. Just hours ago Rem had pondered why humans were as dumb as they were, and now she was being insulted by one. She could no longer take it. With both of her fists raised in the air, she yelled.
"Listen to me, dumbass! I'm not a thief! Does this cute little elf really look like some vile scoundrel to you!?"
"An elf?"
Rem realized her mistake too late. The girl shined the candle's faint light deeper in the hole, as if trying to check Rem's face.
"Ah, I recognize you! You're that person who so rudely leapt over my carriage the other day, aren't you? If I remember correctly, you were running away after having stolen something from a store... So, you really are a thief!"
An elf and a princess, both unique creatures in their own right. It was just natural that they'd remember each other. Still, things were looking quite dire for Rem. Not only was the Princess fully convinced of her thiefhood, she now knew Rem wasn't even of the same race as her. Rem gulped heavily, scared to think of the fate that awaited her.
But, she had to hide her fear. Trying to look as confident as possible, Rem stated her name.
"My name is Rem! I swear on my pride as an elf, I harbour no hostility towards you!"
Not that Rem actually felt any pride towards her race. She had to try, however. How could she face her mother in heaven if she were to die as a thief? The Princess, obviously ignorant of this fact, seemed more annoyed than anything, and let out a heavy sigh.
"Oh my, what bother... Either way, since you introduced yourself, I shall do so as well, even if it is to a thief. I am Alferez Viltela, the first-born princess of this land."
"Al... fe... Vil...?"
The long name had left the girl's mouth far too fast for Rem to process. Watching the elf's struggle as she tried desperately to recite it, Alferez let out a sigh even heavier than the last.
"There's no need for you to worry about memorizing it. Be a proud elf or whatever you may, the fact remains that you sneaked into a princess's bedchamber. Or am I wrong?"
She was correct. Unable to counter her claim, Rem's bluff instantly crumpled, and she pouted in defeat.
"Anyway, I'm in quite a bad mood right now, and definitely don't plan to stay up all night to keep you company. Good grief... Why did this have to happen right now...?"
"'Right now'? Did I interrupt something?" Rem asked, simply out of curiosity. As this was meant as nothing more than an innocent question, she was quite taken aback by Alferez's fierce reaction. The girl's face instantly turned bright red, and her lips began to tremble. The eyes she had had trouble keeping open just moments ago were now wide open and nervously moving around, as if avoiding Rem's gaze.
"N-N-No you did not!!"
"I didn't? Sure doesn't look like that..." Rem said, tilting her head slightly to the side. This 'sharp questioning' caused Alferez to snap.
"Shut up, shut up! How dare a filthy elf thief talk to me in that manner!? I'll hand you to the soldiers the day after tomorrow, so just sit there until then!"
"H-Hold on...! Wait!"
Rem panicked, and begged the girl to reconsider. However, Alferez's mind was set. She took a step back from the hole to hide her intense blush, exiting Rem's view. One loud door slam later, the girl was gone.
"Waaaaaait! Let me out of heeeeeere!"
No matter how much she cried and yelled, it didn't seem like the girl was coming back. All Rem had wanted was shelter. Why did it have to go like this? Well, she supposed this could have been argued to be a form of shelter, too. It was much too cramped, though; she didn't even have room to sit down, and was forced to stand instead.
"Now then, how do I get out of here..."
Under normal circumstances Rem could have easily jumped out. However, the hole was far too narrow for her to build any speed. She tried climbing the wooden walls as well, but they had been polished, and her hands simply slid off them. Rem thought for a moment, then took out her bow, and placed an arrow on the string. Though there wasn't room for her to pull her elbow back all the way, it was more than enough to propel the arrow for the distance she had in mind. She released the string, causing the arrow to lodge deep into the trap hole's wall, around halfway from the top. After shooting a few more, Rem jumped as high as she could, holding one more arrow in her hand.
"All... right!"
She stabbed the arrow in the wall as hard as she could. Utilizing her momentum she pulled her body upwards, while simultaneously using her feet to kick the wall below her. She then grabbed one of the arrows she had shot earlier, pulling herself ever higher. Of course, as light as Rem was, such thin arrows could have never supported the full weight of her body. However, as long as she was in motion, they didn't need to. She kicked the wall one last time, and popped out from the hole in a gentle arc. "And that's how you do it!"
Rem was honestly surprised how well her plan had worked out. "I'd like to see a human do the same", she chuckled to herself. She couldn't let her guard down, however; there might still have been more traps in the room. Thankfully there weren't any; Rem would probably have died of embarrassment if the Princess saw her having fallen down yet another trap hole.
"It's her turn to be humiliated!"
While the Princess was fully justified in being angry, her house had been broken into after all, the way she had mocked Rem was simply unforgivable.
"She called me a fool not once but twice! I won't let that stand!"
Fueled by petty rage, Rem pushed the door Alferez had gone through open, fully set on getting her revenge. Though venturing deeper in the manor might have seemed risky to some, Rem was quite certain that there weren't any guards here. If there were, then why would the manor need to be "filled with traps of all sorts"? There was also another reason.
"She said she'd hand me to the soldiers the day after tomorrow."
In other words, until then all she could do was keep Rem captive.
"For a princess she sure is a dummy, slipping out such important details. Or should I say, a 'fool'. Hehe!"
Rem didn't think the Princess was here all by herself, of course, just that the people with her were likely servants and such. With her guard still up just in case, she searched for a room that looked like it could belong to Alferez.
The mansion turned out to be even bigger than it had seemed from the outside, however. The hallways were long and wide, and the number of rooms was simply insane. To make things worse, Rem now had to look out for traps as well, forcing her to move at a snail's pace.
After what felt like an eternity, Rem had barely managed to search the first two floors. The enthusiasm she had felt was all gone, and wanting revenge seemed more and more absurd; she had broken in after all.
"Uuh... I can't just let her get away with that... But... Uuuh..." Rem groaned, unable to vent her anger. Leaving before anyone noticed she had escaped would've probably been the smart thing to do here. However, that wasn't an option; something had caught her attention.
Rem smelled a sweet fragrance coming from above her, drawing her in like a fly to honey.
"Ah! Aaaaaaahn!"
As Rem climbed the stairs leading to the third floor, she heard a strange scream echoing through the hallways. She jumped from shock, and immediately turned her head towards the direction of the noise.
Wh-Wh-Whaaaaat!?
Rem barely managed to stop herself from screaming out aloud. Her mind was in total chaos. The very first thing she had seen as she turned her head were Alferez's pale legs. The girl lay on her back on the red carpet covering the hallway, trying to hold her voice down, but desperately failing to do so. Both of her knees pointed towards the ceiling, causing the hem of her silky, white dress to rise dangerously high.
"Mmh... Aah... Ahh... Haaa..."
That wasn't all. Her right hand rested between her slovenly spread legs with its fingers moving intensely against her privates, while the left one massaged her breasts through her dress.
"Wh-What is she...?"
Rem stood frozen in place, watching the girl dumbfounded. Despite her question, she did have a vague idea of what was going on. You see, when Rem was younger, she had accidentally seen a married couple make love. Though having never done it herself, she was aware of masturbation as well. Nevertheless, elves were generally quite indifferent towards sex; it didn't hold any meaning for them outside of making children.
This was nothing at all like the way Rem had known sex to be, however. A constant sound of wetness was being emitted from the girl's privates, with her legs shaking every time she moved her fingers. What's more, her heavy moans seemed completely out of place coming from the mouth of a noble princess.
I-I shouldn't be looking at this...! Rem told herself in panic. Be it a human or elf, sex was something that should always be done in privacy. The girl would no doubt be massively embarrassed if she knew she was being watched.
"Ahhn! Aah... Ha.... Aaahh!"
Though Rem knew she should go, her body just wouldn't move. Her legs were frozen in place, as if spellbound by the girl's voice. As she stood there and watched, things continued to get even stranger.
"Ah... N-No way... Ahh! My fingers... won't stop...!"
Every time one of Alferez's cries hit Rem's ears, she felt something spark deep inside her. Her crotch was starting to throb, as if resonating with the girl's moans. Rem tried rubbing her inner thighs together, but that was nowhere near enough to calm down the sensation. It just kept growing stronger and stronger, to the point that she was forced to grab her crotch with both of her hands.
Is this some kind of a... magic spell...? Is her voice doing... something to my body...?
That was the only possible explanation Rem could think of. Why else would seeing another person masturbate cause her body to react in such a weird way? Her knees were shaking, no longer able to support her body. As the bow slipped off her back, Rem collapsed on all fours.
"Haa... Haa..."
She felt her chest tightening, and could barely breathe. Her limbs felt weak. Even so she kept crawling towards the girl, as if lured in by her voice.
"!!!"
As Rem lifted her head in midst of heavy panting, she saw something completely unexpected; the Princess's legs were wide open in front of her, fully exposing her genitals. They glistened with wetness, opening like the lips of a mouth as the girl stirred them up with her fingers. Rem gasped at the obscenity of the sight in front of her eyes. As you could expect, this was the first time she had seen someone else's privates up close.
"Ahhh... Huh...? You're..."
Just like the other girl, Alferez lifted her head as well. As her eyes met Rem's, now stiffened from shock, a small smile formed on the girl's face, much less innocent than the one when they had first met. She didn't seem angry, or even surprised that Rem had escaped from the trap hole, but rather... happy. Shivers ran up Rem's spine, and she instantly began apologizing.
"I'm... I'm so sorry!"
Rem was scared. She knew something terrible was about to happen. If only she had run away when she had the chance... She attempted to turn around in panic, but her knees were still too weak to support her, and she simply fell on her rear. The impact caused Rem's eyes to close by reflex, and as she opened them, a tiny whimper escaped her mouth.
"Eek...!?"
Alferez's face was now directly in front of Rem's. Just when had the girl gotten so close to her? On top of her on all fours, Alferez forced Rem to the ground.
"What a naughty little girl you are... Just how did you escape?"
The princess's narrowed eyes were overflowing with lust, and she licked her lips like a beast having caught its prey. Rem, the prey, was completely bewitched by the alluring shine in those eyes, unable to move a muscle.
"This calls for punishment, don't you think?" she spoke slowly, running her index finger across Rem's chin. Her skin felt so warm, and that wasn't all. Her heavy breathing let out that same sweet fragrance Rem had smelled while climbing the stairs. As she felt her mind slow down, all she could do was apologize; whether or not the girl was actually listening to her was a whole other story.
"I'm... I'm so... sorry..."
Alferez continued to lean closer and closer towards the helpless girl under her. Unable to escape, all Rem could do was close her eyes.
"Eek...!?"
Rem felt something wet touch her, and instantly opened her eyes wide. That something was Alferez's tongue, slowly moving up and down her neck. Rem's body was frozen still, with her fingers gripping tight on the carpet below her.
"Wh-What the heck are yo— Ahh!"
Rem was interrupted by Alferez's hand suddenly touching her chest. She opened Rem's vest, and began massaging her breasts in a circular motion. Even more shivers ran up Rem's spine as her body bent into a slight arch.
What is wrong with her!?
The Princess seemed like a completely different person from before. The smile on her face grew even more obscene as she continued to fondle the body of the helpless girl stuck under her. Alferez circled Rem's breast gently with her fingertips, causing the girl's body to twitch lightly.
"Oh my, you're not wearing anything to hide your chest? How naughty... Hehehe... I can feel your nipples getting hard..."
"M-My nipples!?" Rem squeaked in shock. That was definitely not a word she had expected to hear from a princess's mouth. She was right, however. The tips of Rem's breasts were indeed growing stiff, so much so that they even ached a little. As Alferez continued fondling them, a sweet, tingling sensation spread across Rem's body.
What was going on? Rem had no idea. She was totally confused, partly by the Princess's sudden change of personality, but mostly by her own body. Though she did know that sex was a thing, she had no idea what it was like in reality. Likewise, while Rem did understand that the girl was caressing her in a sexual way, the resulting sensations were something she hadn't felt before in her whole life. She had no idea how to cope with them.
"Please... stop... Ahn!"
Alferez licked Rem's neck again. Never had the girl known just how sensitive this part of her body was. Moans began to escape her mouth, just like the ones the Princess had made. As Rem's body tensed up from shame, Alferez leaned in, and whispered to her ear.
"Stay still... I'll make you feel reeeeal good..."
"F-Feel good...?"
The girl's breath was sweet. Rem felt her consciousness fading. A fellow woman who she barely knew was touching her body, yet why did it feel so... pleasant?
"Yeah... There are so many different ways for a girl to feel good..."
Her gentle whispers echoed in Rem's head. Completely enthralled by the girl's dewy eyes, she was unable to avert her gaze; the two simply stared at each other. Unknown, sweet sensations began rushing through Rem's body.
Get it together! This is another one of her magic spells...
Rem knew she had to escape before it was too late. Even so, her body just wouldn't move; it didn't want to be separated from Alferez's tongue and fingers, almost like it had a mind of its own. As if sensing this, the Princess slid her fingers between Rem's legs.
"Wha!?"
"At least you're wearing undergarments down here... Oh my, just look at this... You're wet already..."
"Huh...? 'Wet'...? What do you...?"
Alferez's voice sounded almost mocking as she caressed the centre of Rem's panties with her finger tips. The immense shame of having her privates touched by another person left Rem no time to wonder what the girl had meant. However, as Alferez's hand slipped inside the cloth and Rem heard a familiar sound of wetness, she was instantly reminded of the liquid she had seen overflowing from the Princess's genitalia just moments earlier.
That same thing... is happening to me...?
Rem hadn't ever taken the time to examine what she looked like down there, and as such couldn't really imagine what was going on. Well, not like she even had the time to consider that; just a single one of Alferez's fingers sliding across her slit caused Rem's head to fill with sensations stronger than she had ever felt.
"Hyaaaaah!?"
She let out a sharp squeak. Her back lifted lightly from the floor, as if caught in a huge gust of wind.
"Wh-What did you...?"
"Hehe... It feels soooo good when I touch you here, doesn't it...? Right here..."
"Ahh! Stop! Uhh...! Hnnh...! Hnggh...!"
As Alferez continued to slide her finger up and down Rem's slit, the girl felt the sugary tingle swallow her entire body, as if she was being caressed all over by a countless number of hands. Though the Princess was still only using her fingertips, that alone was enough to cause Rem to tremble. Her body was no longer hers; no matter how hard Rem tried, she simply couldn't stop her hips from moving up and down, matching the movements of Alferez's hand. She was a puppeteer, and Rem was her puppet.
"Noo... Why does this...? Aaaah!"
Why wouldn't her body listen to her? Rem had no idea. All she could do was toss her head from side to side.
"Ah! Ah... Ah! Ahh!"
Moans kept escaping her mouth. She wasn't able to stop them. Meanwhile, Alferez grabbed the top part of Rem's dress, and pulled it all the way down.
"Eek...!?"
What's more, she took one of Rem's now-exposed nipples in her mouth, and began sucking on it. The shocked elf girl didn't even have time to scream properly.
"Hyaaahh!?"
Having her breasts exposed in this manner was simply too embarrassing, and Rem's body froze in place as a result. Alferez wasn't done, however. Using her tongue she began fiercely assaulting the girl's stiffened teat, still in her mouth, causing not only Rem's nipple, but her entire breast to tingle intensely. She could feel fluids trickling down her inner thighs. Was it pee? No, it was something warmer and thicker, something Rem had never experienced before.
"Ahaha... You're getting so wet... Feels pretty good, huh...? Mmh... Mmhn..."
"D-Don't suck on my chest like that...! Noo! Don't stir up my crotch!"
As if to make fun of Rem's pathetic plead, Alferez began sucking even harder. She used her fingers to dig deeper in the girl's crotch as well, with their circular motions accompanied by the constant sound of splashing from Rem's fluids. She felt utterly humiliated. Not by the actions of the other girl, but by those of her own body. Though it would have been easy to thrust the Princess off her, Rem's body simply wouldn't listen to her. Instead, it pushed her breasts outwards, as if wanting them to be tormented more.
"Wh-Why does my body... feel so hot...!? Ahhh!"
"Hehe... Now that's a face I like..."
As the Princess looked down at Rem, smiling like a madwoman, a single string of saliva trickled down from her mouth. The drop fell on the lips of the girl below her. Rem's tongue moved before she even had a chance to react, licking up the sweet liquid.
"Huh....? A-Ah...! Hyaaaah!"
After a few seconds of silence a horrible scream left Rem's mouth. Violent waves of heat spread throughout her body, and her crotch felt warmer than ever before in her life, almost as if it was on fire. Rem embraced Alferez in complete trance, as if begging the girl for help, and spread her legs wide, wanting the girl to stir her up even more.
Wh-What am I doing...?
Rem had no idea what was happening. Whatever it was, it wasn't normal. Even so, she was no match for these sensations, unable to defy them. As Alferez's tongue moved gently across her face, Rem once again felt her mind starting to blank out.
"Hey, say it... Say that you feel good... I'll make you feel even better if you do..."
"It... feels... Ah! Ahh... Aaaahh!"
Alferez inserted her fingers in Rem's slit before the girl had a chance to finish her answer. The full strength of her assault was now focused on a single point, nothing like before when she had fondled Rem's entire body.
"Eek!? Wh-What is happening...? Hyaah!"
Rem felt her entire body melt as the Princess flicked the tiny, stiffened bean located above her hole.
"Eek! Stop...! I'm so scared...! Hyaaahh!?"
"This is the key to the greatest pleasure a girl can feel... Calm down, and enjoy it..."
"H-How do you expect me to just... Eek! Nooooo!"
Rem had no means of resisting what was happening to her; she hadn't even known of the existence of such a part of her body. At the same moment, something began swelling inside her. It was something hot, something scary. Rem felt like she was about to burst, and grasped the Princess's shoulders in terror.
"Something's... coming...! Something's... happening to me...!"
"Ah, incredible... Already, huh...? You're cumming already...!?"
"'Cum'...? What do you mean by 'cum'...? Ah... Ahh!"
With her eyes wide open and her body all covered in sweat, Alferez began moving her fingers even faster, fiercely rubbing Rem's lovebud. She felt like her body was floating; all she could see was white. Rem knew something was happening to her; she could sense it coming.
"No... Nooooo! I want to feel good too!!"
This was too much for Alferez to witness, however, and she ceased her hands, unable to contain herself for any longer. She lifted her dress, and placed her crotch on the face of the girl below her.
"This is not fair! I was doing it first, why should I be the one to pleasure you!? Hey, make me feel good!" she yelled at Rem, looking like she was about to cry any second now. Rem had all the right to protest, it wasn't like she had asked the girl to assault her, but for some reason she just couldn't bring herself to be angry. All she could focus on was the soft pair of thighs gently pressing against her cheeks. Her heart raced as she stared at the Princess's entrance, spread slightly open as if waiting for a kiss. Clear, saliva-like liquid dripped out of it, trickling down the girl's inner thighs while assaulting Rem's nose with the sweetest sensation she had ever felt. With her eyes wide open, unable to focus her vision, Rem could feel her mouth starting to water.
"Lick it! Hey... Hurry up... I'll make you feel even better if you... Hyaaah!?"
Rem had become intoxicated by the lewd fragrance. Without any hesitation she pressed her face against Alferez's slit before the girl even had a chance to finish her sentence. Spreading the walls of flesh open with her tongue she slurped up the warm nectar within.
"Yes! Right there! So good!"
Rem moved her lips and tongue frantically, encouraged by the girl's voice. Though she hadn't been given any instructions, Rem felt like she knew what she was supposed to be doing, as if by instinct, and pushed her tongue deeper and deeper.
"Aaaaahh...!"
Rem felt her body melt each time the Princess moaned. At some point her hand had wandered between her legs, and was now finishing what the other girl had left halfway.
"Ahh...! Yes...! You're... so good at this...! Mmh!"
This wasn't really the kind of thing Rem was happy to be good at. Or at least that's how she would have felt normally. In the heat of the moment, however, that praise felt incredibly good, and she began moving her tongue even faster in response. Alferez's bottom rocked up and down as Rem licked her insides, filling the girl's mind with the sweet smell and taste of her fluids. There was no room for reason in her head; all she could focus on was pleasuring the Princess.

"Aaah! Yes...! I'm... I'm almost there...!"
Almost where? Rem had no idea, but wherever it was, she wanted to be there with her. She began desperately rubbing the small bean the girl had touched earlier, trying to reach that floating sensation once more.
"Ahh! This is incredible...! This thing is incredible!!"
Though the sensation had been fading away, it was now back stronger than ever. Rem continued licking the Princess's slit, wanting to share this joy with her.
"Aaaaaahh!"
Alferez's back bent in an arch. Feeling like the time was near, Rem moved her fingers and tongue in the same rhythm. But why? What reason did she have to do this for the girl, what obligation? None of that mattered anymore. She had lost her ability to think; all she could focus on was gulping up the sweet nectar pouring into her mouth.
"Aaah! Cumming! I'm... Yes! I'm... Aaah.... Aaaaahh!"
"Me too! I'm... I'm cumming too! Cumming! I'm cumming!"
Despite never having experienced it, Rem understood exactly what was happening. Her body welcomed the coming orgasm with open arms.
"Cumming! Cumming! Cumminngggh!!"
The two climaxed simultaneously, letting out the exact same scream as if having practised it beforehand. As Alferez's fluids gushed on her face, the young elf allowed the storm of pleasure to take her body.

Rem woke up to the sound of rain. It seemed like she had lost consciousness at some point. As the girl shifted her gaze from the ceiling to a nearby window, she noticed it had gotten dark outside. What time was it? Rem had no idea. There weren't any lights in the room, and the moon wasn't visible either; for all she knew it could have been midnight or near dawn. Even so, she had surprisingly little trouble getting up.
"Where am I...?"
Rem soon realised why she had slept so well; the bed she was on was the softest thing she had ever felt in her life. It was enormous, too; you could've easily fit four or five more people on it. More than enough room to toss and turn to your heart's content. Likewise, the covers were both warm and cosy, while at the same time so light you barely noticed that they were there. There was no doubt this bed had costed a fortune.
"So... why was I sleeping here?"
While pondering this, Rem suddenly remembered the events that had led to her falling asleep, and sprang up. Though she was wearing clothes, her breasts were exposed, a sight which made the obscene memories in her mind seem ever more vivid. Rem remembered everything; how the Princess has pushed her down and caressed her body, how she had reached her first climax.
"Why did I... do that...?"
Rem quickly covered her mouth and shivered, deeply ashamed of the uncharacteristic way she had acted. Her body was still weak from the orgasm, and the Princess's sweet taste had yet to leave her mouth. The bed smelled like her as well, causing Rem's crotch to begin aching anew, an ache which only her fingers could satisfy.
"Noo...!"
Rem gripped the sheets as hard as she could in an attempt to stop her hands. She shuddered with fear as she recalled what the Princess had looked like as she touched herself, the pained moans she made. The ferocity of human sex scared her.
"Humans are all beasts! If that's how their princesses act, then I don't even want to know how vulgar the regular ones are..." Rem shouted, cursing humans. Yet why, why did thinking about the girl pleasuring herself cause Rem to blush? Why was she so jealous of the shameless way she sought pleasure?
Rem shook her head. No, this isn't me. I'm still just confused by what happened. She took a deep breath, and tried to collect herself.
What had happened after she passed out? When had she gotten on the bed? Where was the Princess? Focusing on these questions allowed Rem to regain her composure. With her eyes now used to the dark she took another look around the room, and noticed three glimmering lights right next to her. They formed an upside down triangle, with the top ones being turquoise, and the bottom one red.
"Mrrroww~!"
"Eek!?"
The triangle let out a strange noise without a warning, causing Rem to jump up in the air. Thankfully the bed was large enough for her to not fall on the floor, but this also left her far too close for comfort to the mysterious object.
"Meow~!"
Another one. The sound resembled that of a yawning cat, and sent shivers down Rem's spine.
"G-Get away from me...! Wait... is that... a cat?"
It sure did sound like one at least. Rem got as close as her fear would allow, and confirmed her suspicion; a snow-white cat lay next to Rem on the bed, almost as if it had been sleeping with her.

"G-Geez... Don't scare me like that..."
As Rem sighed in relief, the cat let out a short, irritated groan. It then lifted its jaw slightly and turned its head, as if telling Rem to look that way. Though she wasn't really a fan of how snobby the cat was acting, Rem decided to follow its instructions. She noticed a fireplace by the side of the room, with a few embers still burning inside it. Seemed like the cat was telling her to use the fire to light the candlesticks on the walls. Rem did as she was told, and soon the room was lit by dim candlelight.
"Wow, you really knew how to do that? Damn, you're smart", Rem praised the cat as she lifted it up. Now that she saw it better she realised just how beautiful its snow-white fur really was. It's turquoise eyes reminded her of Alferez, and the black choker around its neck was quite similar to the girl's as well, up to the red gemstone embedded in it.
"The Princess is your owner, huh? ... Oh, you're a lady cat?"
"Mroww! Mrrowww!"
The cat didn't seem to enjoy Rem having checked its gender, and unleashed a flurry of claws. The elf had to fight back with all her strength to avoid getting scratched.
"Come on, no need to get that angry. Hehe, it's almost like you can understand what I'm saying."
"Mrow~!"
Having freed itself from Rem's grasp the cat turned its head angrily and hopped back on the bed, yawning loudly before curling up into a ball. Perhaps it was simply in a bad mood; she had woken it up in the middle of the night, after all.
"Even the cat ignores me..." Rem sighed. Just then, her stomach let out a growl.
Right, food. That's why she had broken in in the first place. Being a princess's manor and all, there must have been some pretty good stuff here. Her taking a little bit of it wasn't going to hurt anyone.
"She owes me for last night. That stuff was messed up."
Muttering that to herself Rem set out to find the kitchen, feeling completely justified in doing so.
"What the heck...?"
Rem had found the pantry, although it wasn't quite what she had expected. The room was filled with shelffuls of dried bread and smoked meat, as well as sacks of flour, whatever those were used for. There were some vegetables too, but they hadn't been touched. Though elves generally found virtue in modesty, this selection seemed a little plain even for her standards.
"Is this really what a human princess eats? Hmm, it could also be what she feeds to that cat."
She did notice a pile of dirty dishes as well, but was simply too hungry to care. While licking her lips, Rem reached towards a piece of bread. This attempt was cut short, however.
"Mrrowww!"
The cat from earlier jumped at her, landing between Rem and the food. It growled with its hair bristled up, threatening to attack the girl if she took even a single step forward. Rem knew that even smaller animals had the potential to be quite dangerous when irritated; the cat's claws and fangs weren't to be underestimated. She decided to play it safe, and folded her arms.
"So, this is your food, huh? Or are you perhaps telling me to keep my hands off your master's belongings?" Rem asked, although not really expecting a response. It was just a cat, after all; there was no way it understood a word of what she was saying. Conducting a negotiation of any kind was simply impossible. For a moment Rem stood there, looking for an opportunity to snatch the bread, but the cat just wouldn't avert its gaze.
"Look, it's your master's fault that I'm starving. It's just fair that she shares some food with me. Come on, a princess has a duty to give to those in need!"
Rem was starting to get heated up. Armed with these nonsense arguments, she stared the cat eye to eye. Not too long after she gave up, however; the feline was clearly more persistent than her.
"Just forget it..."
Though Rem wanted to be mad, she was far too hungry to muster the necessary willpower to do so. Having acknowledged her defeat, she dragged herself back to the bedroom. The cat followed on her tail, as if monitoring her.
"And I thought I was finally free to do what I want..."
Rem rolled on the bed, cursing her fate. She couldn't sleep, however; waking up in the middle of the night was to blame for that, as well as her empty stomach. The girl simply lay there in the loneliness of the night, feeling completely miserable.

"Wake up, you stupid elf!"
The next morning. Rem woke up to the sound of the Princess yelling. Seemed like she had eventually fallen asleep. Still quite tired she pulled the blankets on top of her head and tried to ignore the noise. The girl, however, clearly wasn't in the mood for messing around, and yanked them right off her.
"Don't pretend to be asleep! Answer me, how did you escape from that hole!?"
"Huh...? Why are you asking this now...? I already got out like yesterday..."
Rem stared at the girl with puzzled eyes, unable to fathom why she would ask her this a day later. Perhaps having realised what was happening, Alferez's face went bright red, filled with both embarrassment and frustration.
"Shut up! I have my own business to take care of! It... It doesn't matter, just get out of here already!"
"Huh!? Come on, at least let me stay until it stops raining! You owe me an apology for those disgusting things you did to me last night!" Rem whined back, tossing around on the bed. Though it had gotten a little brighter outside, the rain was still coming down at full force. The elf's little tantrum was too much for the Princess to handle, and she bit her lip while letting out a deep groan.
"Well, alright... But on one condition: you will not take a single step outside this room! Understood!?"
"Yeah, yeah."
Alferez pointed her finger at Rem in an attempt to look strong. Not that this was really necessary; the elf was perfectly fine with accepting the girl's terms if it meant not having to go outside in the rain. There was, however, one more issue she wanted to resolve if at all possible. A very serious issue.
"Ah, right. I'd be glad if you could bring me some food, seeing how I can't leave this room and all." Rem said, attempting to use the condition the Princess herself had set to demand further atonement. She worried she might have come across a little too mean, but Alferez simply replied with a short hmph.
"I refuse. Go ahead and starve, see if I care."
With that blunt answer the girl exited the room. Rem stared after her a little dumbfounded; the Princess was far more obstinate than she had originally imagined.
The conversation hadn't been completely fruitless, however; it allowed Rem to confirm something really important. The Princess clearly remembered the events of last night. Her massive change in personality had made Rem wonder if she had simply forgotten, but her reaction confirmed that wasn't the case. Not only that, she had even seemed a little embarrassed about it.
"What a strange princess..."
Rem's impression of the girl changed each time they met. At first her eyes had shined with child-like curiosity, then she had made fun of Rem, and now she had no temper. Never before had Rem met a person with so many different sides to them.
"She doesn't act like a princess in the slightest..."
There was no way that her lack of manners and elegance were solely due to her dealing with an elf who had broken into her house; she likely treated any person she came across with the same level of disrespect.
"I bet that's the reason she's been divorced three times. Yeah, must be."
Rem nodded to herself, quite confident in her arbitrary conclusion. There was one thing that didn't quite fit, however; her behaviour last night when she had forced herself on Rem. Everything else could be explained by her being simple-minded and selfish, but back then she really had felt like a completely different person. Considering how quick she had been to let Rem stay until it stopped raining, it was possible she hadn't been acting so intentionally.
"I kinda feel bad for her..."
Rem wasn't really the most normal person herself. Perhaps this was the reason she was so quick to assume that the Princess was suffering. She sat on the bed with her legs crossed, staring at the rain through the window while wondering what the other girl was feeling.
It didn't take long for her to get bored, however. Unable to sit still any longer she walked around the room and rolled on the bed, trying to find some way to pass the time.
"Dammit! This is even more boring than guarding the Tree of Origin!"
Wanting to keep her promise, Rem had endured through the whole afternoon. It was now evening, however, and she was starting to hit her breaking point.
"What is wrong with her!? She's not going to bring me even a slice of bread!? I take it back, I don't feel bad for her at all anymore!"
Rem burst out of the room boiling with rage, ready to go ham on the girl. First she had to find her, of course, and the only way to do that was to look through every single door.
"These are all bedrooms. What's more, there's dresses and nightgowns lying everywhere. None of the beds are made, either. Not at all what you'd expect from a manor belonging to a princess. Isn't there someone here who takes care of cleaning?"
After looking through ten or so rooms, Rem realised something. Something very strange.
"Wait... There's no one here?"
She looked down the empty corridor. An outsider was running through the manor causing a ruckus, yet no guards or even servants had come to see what was going on. The Princess was the only person she had actually seen. Rem now understood why the place seemed so unkempt. Come to think of it, the gown Alferez was wearing was quite simple as well, something she could easily take off and put on by herself. It was all clear to her now; there was no one else here except the Princess.
"What does this mean? Is she not really a princess at all?"
That was unlikely; there was no way your average girl would travel around in a fine carriage drawn by four horses. Taking her divorces into account, this whole thing seemed quite fishy.
Feeling a strange uneasiness in her chest, Rem resumed the search for the Princess, now with a completely new reason for doing so. She walked around hastily, nearly running, until at last stumbling across a noticeably large door.
"Is she here...? Whoa!"
Just as Rem was getting ready to bust through it, a large hole opened below her feet. It made a slight, mechanical noise before doing so, however, giving the elf just enough time to jump away to safety. She had forgotten all about the various traps scattered around the manor. They made more sense than ever now; there was no way the Princess would have had any chance against intruders just by herself.
"There must be something really important behind this door. Why else would they install a trap right in front of it?"
She leapt over the newly-opened hole, pushed the door open, and walked inside while making sure to watch out for any additional traps. There were no signs of anyone being here. She looked around the room, which appeared to be a two-floor library. Its walls were all covered in shelves filled with ancient-looking books.
"What the...?" Rem said, with her brows knitted. There weren't really that many books; the problem was that they were all grimoires used for black magic. She grabbed one, glanced at its contents, and immediately slammed it shut. Even Rem was aware of the basics of the spirit arts. Her being as nimble a regular elf despite only being half-blooded herself was all thanks to her borrowing the strength of the wind spirits. However, these weren't quite as simple as that.
Simply put, they were curses; dangerous spells that could affect not only other people, but even your own life.
"Why does she have all these...?"
Rem exited the room and continued her search around the manor, feeling even more unsettled than before. She did come across further traps, such as nets falling from the ceiling or spears shooting out of the walls, but miraculously managed to avoid them all, until eventually coming across a staircase leading to the attic. As she walked up them, Rem spotted a familiar figure; the girl she had been looking for this whole time.
The Princess stood with her back turned towards Rem. A book lay open on the table in front of her, and she was clearly focused on something, to the point that she didn't notice the elf walking up to her.
"Hey, Princess. Mind explaining what's going on?"
"Huh...?"
Shocked by her voice Alferez dropped the glass bottle she was holding. It hit the floor, shattering into thousands of little pieces. The liquid that had been contained within splashed out and exploded into a pillar of purple smoke, filling the room with a sweet fragrance, much like one Rem had smelled before.
"Y-You stupid elf! Why are you...!?"
As the girl turned around to face her, Rem noticed that her mouth region was covered by multiple layers of cloth wrapped around it, acting as a mask of sorts. The Princess's eyes, wide open with both anger and confusion, bounced back and forth between Rem and the liquid on the floor.
"Huh? What is happening...? I don't... feel so great..."
As the fumes entered her nose, Rem felt her mind starting to get foggy. She felt dizzy, as if about to lose her balance at any moment. Just standing straight was a struggle. What was happening to her?
"Ah... Aah..."
Her cheeks were burning. Her body was on fire. A shameful throb had begun pulsing between her legs. Though not happy about it, Rem remembered this sensation.
"Wait, Princess... I... Ah!"
It was the same as yesterday. No, the ache in her crotch was even stronger than back then. Rem's body was strengthless and her knees gave out soon after, causing the girl to collapse on the floor. Unable to resist her urges she bent forwards, shoving both of her hands between her legs. Never before had she been quite as embarrassed as right now. The elf had to fight back with all of her strength to stop her fingers from sliding into her privates. What had happened yesterday didn't even compare; Rem felt like she was burning inside out. The tips of her breasts had gotten stiff as well, causing her to shudder as they rubbed against her clothes.
"Wait... What is... happening...? Princess... do something...!"
"That's what happens when you breathe in the fumes like an idiot."
Though Alferez's words were as harsh as ever, her eyes were clearly filled with pity. That's when Rem finally figured it out.
Could this weird liquid be why she acted so strange yesterday!?
Was that why she had a mask over her mouth and nose? Rem tried to place her hands on her mouth in an attempt to mimic the girl, but she had already breathed in too much of the smoke; her body would no longer do as she wanted. On the contrary, her fingers were squirming between her legs, rubbing her slit through her panties against the girl's will.
No way... She's going to... think that I'm a fool again...
Though Rem tried and tried to pull her fingers out, her will simply wasn't strong enough; she was now pleasuring herself at full force.
"Ahh! Aaahh!"
A shock pierced through her body. With her eyes rolled up and lips shaking, Rem continued tormenting her crotch with both hands. She slid her panties aside, allowing her fingers to slide inside her hole.
"Haa... Ah... Aah... Ahh!"
"C-Come on, you're going way too rough. You need to treat that place with more care..."
Contrary to what Rem had expected, Alferez wasn't making fun of her at all. Rather, she seemed a little flustered as she grasped Rem's hands, forcing the girl to stop.
It was easy for her to say. Rem, having never masturbated in her life, had no idea how it was supposed to be done.
"W-Well... you do it then... Please...!"
Rem grabbed the Princess by the wrists and pulled her hands between her legs. Though Alferez did by reflex try to free herself, the elf's grip was far too strong to be broken so easily.
"Q-Quit it, you insolent elf! Who do you think I am!?"
"Didn't I do this... same thing for you... yesterday...?"
Rem appealed in a feeble voice in midst of her heavy breaths. Alferez seemed a little troubled, however. She kept glancing at the setting sun through the small window by the side of the room, with clear anxiety visible in her eyes.
"I-It will go away by itself before too long... Probably... So, let go... Let go of me...!"
"Probably!? The hell is that crap!? This is your fault, take some responsibility!!"
Frustrated by the Princess's lack of response, Rem began rubbing her crotch against the girl's arm herself. Her skin spread Rem's labia open, sending immense shock waves through the elf's mind.
"Ahhh!"
She didn't even feel ashamed at this point. The intensity of the sensations was simply too much for her; it was like every single muscle in her body was about to melt. Unable to control herself Rem continued to shake her hips back and forth, spreading lines of her thick, clear honey on the girl's pale arm.
"Hold on...! Stop this! Ah! Nooo...!"
The Princess, unreasonably stubborn even at the best of times, could no longer take it. In midst of her struggle to pull her hand from the other girl's grasp, her mask ended up coming off, exposing her quivering lips. They were small yet still full, and had a lovely, light pink colour.
"So pretty..." Rem mumbled through her heavy panting as she pressed her own lips against Alferez's, almost subconsciously. The kiss filled her heart with immense happiness, far greater than what she had gained from mere touching. Rem's brain wasn't working anymore; she wrapped her arms around the other girl's neck, unable to focus on anything but the sweet taste of her lips.
"Ahh... Haaa... Mmhh..."
"St-Stop it...! You stupid elf...! Stop! If you keep going, then... Aah...!"
Aflerez's moans mixed with Rem's as she tried her hardest to fight back. As she did her eyes became more and more unfocused; she was clearly starting to give in. Had that mysterious liquid began to affect her as well? That's the only conclusion Rem could derive with her last drops of sanity.
"I told you to... stop... W-We're both girls, we... we can't... Ahh..."
Rem didn't need to be told that, she understood what she was doing: kissing another girl, and a human at that. Even so, she felt not the slightest bit of disgust nor repulsion.
Her lips... feel so... good...
For the first time in her life Rem understood what it meant to feel good. Her mind was spinning; she wanted to stay like this forever.
"Stop... This isn't the time... to be doing this... Ahhn!"
The Princess moaned as the tips of their tongues touched. Her body shook from pleasure. Their tongues played with each other, twisting and turning all around.
"Ahh...! Haa...! So good... This feels... so good...!"
"Stop...! Let me go...! There's no time...! Aaaaahhh...!"
Contrary to her words, Alferez was returning Rem's kiss with the same intense passion, with her head tilted slightly to the side. Their saliva mixed together, making obscene sounds as it did so. The vulgar noises only further turned on the two girls, however, and they continued pushing their tongues deeper inside each other's mouth.
"Aaah... Kissing... feels so good...!"
All this pleasure was causing the ache between Rem's legs to grow even larger. In her excitement she grabbed Alferez's thigh between her legs, and began rubbing her slit against it.
"Ahh! Aaaahh! Aaah!"
Rem could hardly breathe; the pleasure was simply too intense. Her back arched as she gasped for air, but all that came to her mouth was the other girl's saliva. Talking about Alferez, when Rem had pulled her thigh against her privates, so had Rem's thigh ended up against hers. Waves of sweet joy ran through their bodies as their shaking legs rubbed each other's crotch.
"Noooo! Y-You stupid elf! If you do that, then... Aaaaahh!"
"But... But it just feels so... Ahh! Aahhh!"
They embraced each other's body, hot with lust, and began kissing intensely. Every time their faces touched Rem could feel pleasure gushing down her body. She titled her head, barely even aware she had done so. How could this feel so good? Her heart beat faster and faster for the human girl, moaning heavily in her embrace.
Is that drug doing this? Or maybe...
That's as far as her brain could manage with that thought. Alferez sucked her tongue deeper, filling Rem's head with nothing but white.
"Mmmmhh!"
"Mmh! Mmmhhhh! This isn't the time to... There's no time to... But... But...!"
Alferez had clearly lost control of herself as well. She pressed her lips against Rem's again and again, gripping the elf's clothes as she tried her best to resist the pleasure. Her efforts were in vain, however; the two inexperienced girls stood no chance against the ruthless lust caused by the drug. The slight twitches and movements of Rem's thigh as it rubbed against her crotch were driving the girl to her limit.
"No way...! Ah... Aaahh! Princess...! I'm... I'm losing my mind...!"
"Me... Me too... Noo... Nooo!!"
Something burst inside her head, and she was swallowed by bright, white light. And not only Rem, but Alferez as well. Their mixed saliva dripped out in a single strand as the two girls reached orgasm simultaneously, quivering with their backs arched.
"Haa... Aah... I... Ah... Aah..."
The release allowed the girls to regain their composure. Well, Alferez at least; Rem's body was still shaking in the aftertaste of the climax, with her eyes shut tight.
"Ah... Ha... The sun is setting... Noo... Don't look at me..."
The Princess's teary voice quickly brought her back to reality, however. Rem figured that doing this with an elf must have been really embarrassing for her, and moved to embrace the crying girl with the intention of comforting her.
"Hm...?"
Her hands faced no resistance; there was nothing but empty air in front of there. Rem opened her eyes only to realise that Alferez had vanished, like smoke in the air.
"Huh...? Princess? Princess!?"
She straightened up and called for her. As she did, she heard a familiar response.
"Meow~!"
Rem's eyes grew large and her body stiffened. Had she not fully come back to her senses yet? Or had she simply lost her sanity? She tilted her head from side to side, unable to believe what she was seeing.
Where the Princess had been now rested a white cat with a choker around its neck.
