Serge’s Monologue

“I’m counting on you.”

“Leave it to me.”

Serge Morgan, owner of a store in the town of Gimul, leaned back in his seat after his employee left at his command.

The seat creaked at the sudden strain.

He was alone in the room. With no other source of noise in his surroundings the creak echoed loudly.

Perhaps I have put on too much weight...

Touching a hand to his stomach, he recalled his younger days spent running around peddling goods and serving others.

He’d been slender back then. Nowadays he was starting to feel concerned for his declining stamina.

“...”

After a moment of silence, Serge stood up quietly and retrieved a wooden box from a shelf in the room.

There’s no point in lamenting. Things are about to get busier...

Inside the box were several items brought to him just the other day: a peculiar type of cloth and string, and what appeared to be a completely normal iron ingot.

Serge gazed upon the items as he thought about the young boy who had brought them in.

Just who was he?

Serge had heard of the things Ryoma had done in the short time since he arrived in Gimul Town. However, he couldn’t tell what kind of person Ryoma was yet.

There are times when he seems like a child of pure naivety, and times where he seems like a calm and composed adult. His words, his attitude, his achievements... There’s something different about him. Something more.

Serge returned the box to the shelf and sat back down in his chair.

“What will happen from here, I wonder...”

Serge Morgan.

The path he had taken to reach his current position wasn’t easy by any means. There were times where he had to take risks and place himself in danger.

As a result of this, he had cultivated a certain skill: Intuition 4.

There’s no way I could have ignored this in the first place, being a request from the duke’s house and all. But even without that connection, there’s more than enough value in him and his knowledge to lend my hand.

Information that had been gathered.

His experience as a merchant.

The skill that had saved him from countless predicaments.

Based on these combined factors, he determined he would assist Ryoma.

“Honestly, what a handful he will be. But... that’s precisely what will make it interesting.”

His words blended into the distant backdrop of insect sounds, not to be heard by anyone.
