Maze Prison

About ten minutes have passed.

……For the time being, Kurumi II’s dignity was preserved as Hibiki’s Astral Dress was not soiled.

The tremors had subsided and the silence restored. They should have been able to proceed straight ahead, but now there was a wall standing in their way. In that place of this, there was a passage on the right side that had never been before. Seeing the other two be speechless, Kurumi II tried to convey that the convulsions had finally come to a halt.

“Just now……what was going on……?”

“There are four people in this castle with the authority to rearrange this region.”

“I see, I see, this is different from the Compile……isn’t it?”

“Compile is caused by interference from the Spirits. The situation just now was freely rearranged from within. The Third Region Binah is almost entirely under the control of the White Queen.”

“Ah, Kurumi-san. Do you remember the school where Doll Master lived in the Tenth Region Malkuth? Think of it like an enhanced version of that. It’s like a privilege for the Dominion.”

That Doll Master could create a single school, while the White Queen and her three executives could rearrange the entire Third Region Binah.

“I roughly understand. But if this rearrangement has occurred??”

Kurumi II nodded in agreement.

“It must be Rook or the other two. In any case, they are determined to never let us escape.”

“But there’s one thing fortunate about the enemy doing this! That means we can definitely escape without a hitch! Maybe! Surely!”

Hibiki spoke with a bright and cheerful voice.

“……Indeed, if this was an inescapable environment from the very beginning, there would have been no need for rearrangement. If they knew our location, it would have been easier to push us into a more desperate corner.”

“During the period of my torture here, rearrangement occurred on a regular basis five times.

Besides this time, there were two cases of it being for an emergency situation. The reason for this

was because the former Dominion of the Third Region Binah declared war. Perhaps this is to prevent the treasure room and the time vault from being searched.”

In the case of a regular rearrangement, the White Queen and the three executives are well aware of the structure of this region. But in the case of an emergency rearmament, there were certain places that absolutely must be kept hidden as well as others whose purpose is still unclear right now??this was what Tokisaki Kurumi could infer from the chats between the Empties and the three executives while being imprisoned.

“That’s not all. Likely in this region right now……ara, a chime?”

“Ding dong ? ? ” the sound of a chime too out of place for this situation rang throughout the corridor.

“This is the broadcasting department ? The two Tokisaki Kurumi have escaped, so Rook-sama has performed the emergency rearrangement of the Third Region Binah ? Empties holding Unsigned Angels gather immediately ? Be sure to capture them ? Ah, and you can kill anyone who dares help them ? ??Two hours until the White Queen returns from the Sixth Region Tiphereth ? Come on everyone ? Strive to fight and do your best to die everyone ? ”

The three of them were silent for a while as they chewed on the implications behind this joyful broadcast.

“……This is just stalling for time.”

Kurumi II nodded in agreement to Hibiki’s words.

“Hasn’t me said something about defeating Rook once? I imagine it must have been a hard battle fought.”

“Yes, yes. Without Tsuan-san or Hibiki-san, I may not have come out triumphant.”

“But a win is still a win. And there is also me this time. From Rook’s perspective, the chances of victory are around 50%. Moreover, the conditions for victory are different. Rook needs to capture us to win. But as long as we find and jump in through the gate to another region, we’ll win.”

Being told this, Kurumi would also agree. In other words, Rook was afraid of the three of them??afraid that if they fight she would be defeated or they would escape.

“So that’s why they’re stalling. ……Despite it being resentful, even if we can defeat Rook, we wouldn’t be able to defeat the White Queen right now.”

That’s right. This was a game to wait for their absent Queen to return. Victory or defeat would be determined by whether they could run away or if they would be captured.

“……Uhh, thinking about what to do next.”

Kurumi closed her eyes. After thinking it over for a while, she summoned a pocket watch.

In the Neighboring World, the creation of inorganic material was easy as long as the conditions were met. Weapons sufficient enough to kill Quasi-Spirits or allow this region to be destroyed would be difficult, but small items such as a watch were a trifle matter.

After opening the lid of the watch to confirm that time was ticking away, Kurumi informed the two of them.

“If the previous announcement is correct, we only have two hours left. Within those two hours, we must flee from the Third Region Binah, understand?”

“Of course, I will follow you!”

“……Search for that time, that power will surely come in handy.”

The three of them nodded in agreement as they kept marching forward in the corridor with an unknown destination. White walls, white walls, no windows, it was an icy and lifeless path.

“Ah, my eyes hurt from this flickering light.”

Hibiki rubbed her eyes. Kurumi agreed with this assessment. Anyway, this whiteness was too dazzling. It kept glistening for who knows how long. It shone as if to symbolize the absolute monarchy of the White Queen.

She really wanted to destroy it all. However, <Zafkiel>’s bullets were finite and also its destructive power would be insufficient right now.

“Hibiki-san, what do you think? The thing that went “Bang!” please take it out and use it.”

“Bang? Could you be referring to the Nitro Dress?”

“Yes, the one that destroyed half of the town in the Tenth Region Malkuth.”

“I don’t have that on my person anymore. If there was such a convenient thing, I would have used it during the Rook battle.”

“Ara, ara. Higoromo-san, you’re quite the radical despite how you look……”

“Because I tried my best! I kept preserving no matter what! I went to the Sixth Region to sell off Unsigned Angels to gain money! But still, that wasn’t enough, so I had to gamble! It was my

first time playing Mahjong! When I turned my blank hand into a yakuman, I nearly fainted from excitement!”

“What were you doing? Or rather what are you discussing……?”

Kurumi gave a stunned smile, as Kurumi II widened her eyes. For Kurumi who lived a completely closed environment, the smile of the other Kurumi looked unbelievably natural.

Although she was tired of lamenting her own mistreatment, the injustice of the heavens was still resentful??

“How do you know each other?”

“Well, that’s……”

“Hibiki-san robbed me of my appearance, body, memories, and ability.”

“……What?”

And she had thought her own experiences were rough.

As Kurumi II froze in place, Kurumi and Hibiki began to careless talk to each other.

“Hey, I still sorry about that even now!”

“You only feel sorry? To me, you??no, to be accurate, you dragged me as bait into that killing game for battle enthusiasts. Even now, I consider that to be a wretched nightmare.”

“No, that’s because I was tracing Kurumi-san’s thoughts. So I couldn’t responsible for your words and actions.”

“That??makes??me??feel??offended??”

“Kya ? ? don’t pinch my cheek!”

“……You guys sure get along.”

“We don’t get along at all.” “Not at all ? ”

Hibiki’s voice trailed behind to speak in unison with Kurumi. Kurumi then pinched her cheeks once again. Kurumi II instantly forgot her jealous feelings as she lightly laughed.

“Listen me , the Third Region Binah is a vicious and vulgar place where fairy tales and horror stories intertwine. That Queen is not just satisfied with using the Empties, but also using them as guinea pigs for various experiments.”

For Quasi-Spirits, an Empty was both an individual and not an individual. They had little emotions left and had no fear of disappearing. If passed by, they were either ignored or treated violently and harshly just like with Momozono Mayuka in the Ninth Region Yesod.

However, the White Queen was even worse.

She didn’t bat an eyelash sublimating the Empties to repeated experiments that distorted them into grotesque forms.

……No, Kurumi II reminisced that whenever an experiment was successful, she would lightly sneer look and say that it was a step closer to her goal.

A smile where evil gradually gathered, it was enough to be convinced that the White Queen was a completely different creature from herself??

“As expected of an inverse clone. Her hobbies are the exact opposite of myself.”

Kurumi let out a “un, un” sound while nodding her head. Hibiki gave a stunned look while listening to her say this.

“Eh, what is this Spirit saying?”

Kurumi’s discerning ears caught wind of what Hibiki muttered.

“Sorry, sorry. Because what you said was too interesting, I couldn’t help but let that out!

Gyaaaaah!”

“……Anyway, can we move on quickly?”

Still being carried on her back, Kurumi II whispered while having a flabbergasted expression.

No traces of the Empties had been seen yet. The three of them kept a brisk pace, choosing to hurry rather than avoiding making noise. Gorgeous furniture??flower vases??placed in certain locations, but there was nothing, not even flowers in the vase. It was just left here without any attempts at decoration……such was the impression this left.

The three of them marched straight forward through the white hallway before finally arriving at a corner.

“Beyond this corner is probably a rearranged place.”

Rearrangement was the power to disassemble and shift the region from 100 components.

However, this rearrangement was too hasty. Kurumi II speculated that besides the important locations, the overwhelming remaining locations likely stayed the same.

But even when taking that into account??the eye-catching sight beyond the corridor still captured their attention.

“This is……a flower garden?”

Flowers, flowers, flowers, everywhere the eye could see the flowers concealed the earth. Red, yellow, and white colors flourished on the ground.

“Can we escape from here?”

After Hibiki finished saying that, Kurumi step on the ground to traverse through the air.

However, she soon realized that would be impossible. After flying to some extent, the sky suddenly gave a hard rubber-like texture and it became unlikely to proceed forward any longer.

Without any better option, Kurumi descended on the ground and sighed.

“It’s impossible. Both a fake sky and fake earth.”

“Well, they wouldn’t let us escape that easily.”

Hibiki smiled bitterly. What is this place? As the two of them raised that question, Kurumi II descended down from Hibiki’s back to pick up a flower.

“Does the White Queen also have a leisurely mood to enjoy flowers?”

Confronted by Kurumi’s question, Kurumi II slowly shook her head.

“No, she likes artificial objects like this building and hates nature. It’s impossible for her to appreciate these flowers. Maybe……maybe these flowers were here before this castle was built in the Third Region Binah.”

Touching the petals with her fingers……she smiled. Kurumi looked on at this strange scene. She didn’t have the carefree passion or interesting in playing around with flowers. However, this Kurumi (Kurumi II) was affectionately caressing the flowers.

Her movements were so cute and elegant that even the fact of being chased was momentarily forgotten.

“……Hurry up.”

Kurumi cleared her throat with a cough. However, that girl slowly shook her head.

“No, there’s one thing that must be decided before that.”

The girl stood up and smiled.

“I’ve decided my name here.”

“…… Me ?”

“??Cistus. Doesn’t that pronunciation sound beautiful?”

The girl who was Kurumi was given a new name. Cistus, known after the flower of the afternoon, was beautifully blooming with its pure white petals.

It was a beautiful flower and a beautiful name.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, yes. A person who would throw away her own name……could you be such an individual?”

After picking up the blooming flowers, Cistus threw them into the sky. The breeze picked up the petals as they flew away. Then, a miracle happened to the Tokisaki Kurumi who had changed her name to Cistus. Her Astral Dress turned into a refreshing yellow color.

Kurumi and Hibiki……were both taken aback by her dream-like appearance.

“……No problem.”

“Cistus……in other words sister……Kurumi-san’s little sister that sounds good. Or calling Kurumi-san “Ane-chan” isn’t bad at all either……”

As Hibiki was brainstorming this idea, she suddenly felt a sinister intent and moved to protect her own neck.

One Hour and Forty Minutes Remaining

The stems broke one by one from the rustling sound made from running.

“This is a little too much to bear……!”

“I don’t care. Our lives take the highest priority right now.”

The flower garden that appeared to be endless finally changed after passing through one or two hills.

“Look, there’s a door!”

“Sure enough, this is a fairy-tale world……”

There was a door on the third hill. Of course, there was no space connected around the door as everything in behind was still an endless field of flowers.

The door was likely the gateway to the White Queen’s castle, sending them to return to the battlefield once more.

“So, let me open??”

After touching the doorknob there was an incredible ice-cold feeling. Not just her hands, the entire body and particularly the neck felt an icy chill rise to the surface.

“……”

Kurumi looked at the door again. A glossy wooden door, with the most prominent feature being a clock piece marked there.

“Kurumi-san?”

“Un, un.”

She cleared her throat with a cough.

“……Excuse me.”

She once again looked at the weird door on top of the hill. It was the same annoying astronomical clock as the White Queen’s pupil. Despite being embedded on the top of the door, the clock wasn’t moving.

Kurumi carefully touched the door……checking the backside just in case. Touching the second hand, minute hand, and also the needle pointing to the zodiac signs??nothing seemed unusual.

There wasn’t the feeling of the touch of death. But just what is this? This feeling was an indiscernible and blasphemous premonition. She believed in all seriousness that everything built up to now would be ruined if she stepped into this door,

“Would you like to go in?”

Hearing Cistus’s words coming from behind, Kurumi took a deep breath in.

“……I will proceed.”

No problem, Kurumi tried to reassure herself.

If this were a trap, she would use the Fourth Bullet <Dalet> to reverse time or the Seventh Bullet

<Zayin> to stop whatever approaches from there. If this was a pitfall style trap, then the First Bullet <Aleph> should be enough to suffice??

“Time to open!”

Kurumi grabbed and turned the doorknob. Then, something strange occurred. The clock hands began to move as if linked to the doorknob.

“Ara.”

“Huh?”

“Ara, ara, ara?”

The three of them let out three different voices.

Beyond the door was a giant’s room. The table and chairs at the center of the room were so large that it was necessary for Kurumi to look up to see everything.

Leaping onto the table, she found a white teacups and a silver teapot there. Were they going to host a tea party?

Kurumi sighed as she got off the table.

“This is too ridiculous.”

While saying so, Kurumi smiled as she looked back, yet both Cistus and Hibiki were frozen in place with a strange expression marking their faces.

“W-Wha……”

“Y-You……”

Taking a deep breath, both sides said to each other the first thing that came to mind.

“Why have you two become so big!?”

“W-Why has Kurumi-san become so tiny!?”

They stared at each other.

As Kurumi was contemplating the meaning behind Hibiki’s words, she quickly soon understood after looking at her own hands.

So small, very much so being super incomparably tiny.

Her entire body felt light and soft.

Kurumi leaped onto the table in a panic. She took the silver teapot to use as a mirror to illuminate her own figure.

“Wha, wha, wha……”

Kurumi-chan (7 years old) couldn’t even scream as she collapsed onto her knees.

Then, she hurriedly checked to confirm her clothes. Astral Dress, Astral Dress……it’s fine!

There wasn’t any feeling of it being baggy as it also conformed into a size that fitted her. At the very least, she wouldn’t need to answer any questions about being completely naked.

Incidentally, she suspected for a moment that the whole room looked so big because of herself shrinking. But that didn’t seem to be the case as the entire room was already huge. When using the tape measure she created, the chair was about 10 meters high, the silver teapot about 2 and a half meters, and the white teacup around 1 meter.

The huge size of this room was concerning in of itself. But the current crisis of this situation was how Tokisaki Kurumi, the strongest in combat power among the three, was now weakened in strength.

This was their current crisis.

However, there was an even greater danger soon about to attack Kurumi.

“This is dangerous……this is bad……this is bad……”

On one hand, Higoromo Hibiki was stroking her cheeks and creepily muttering about the 7 year old Kurumi-chan. Normally, Kurumi would shoot at her with <Zafkiel>, uppercut her chin, or place pressure on her joints to squash any form of resistance. But now that Kurumi-chan has turned into a seven year old child, she had a dead fish look in her eyes as she was in no mood of disciplining her.

“I’ve shrunk……turned into a little child……”

“……This really is a real headache……”

Only Cistus was staring at this extremely sad and gloomy scene with a stunned look.

Honestly, looking like an adorable little girl was akin to an illustration from hell for her.

“W-What to do……what should I do……”

“Kurumi-san, what about your mental ability right now?”

“Ah, uh……no problem. I can think properly. Yes.”

Her voice had become relatively younger, but only her thinking ability remained the same.

“Aah……so cute……so cute……I want to lock you up so I can love you forever……”

“Um, me . Hibiki-san has lost her mind. Can you wake her up instead?”

“I’ll gladly comply.”

After receiving the short gun, Cistus used it to slam Hibiki onto the ground without mercy.

“I’ve regained my sanity. Thank you.”

“Don’t mention it, you’re welcome.”

Hibiki had returned from having both of her eyes become heart-shaped pupils to a single eye being left in that state but, (incidentally blood was still constantly bleeding from her head) for the time being she was able to communicate again.

“……Say, was this because of touching the doorknob first? If I knew that ahead of time, I would have Hibiki-san go first……”

“That’s certainly true.”

“Isn’t that too cruel!?”

Cistus asked the little Kurumi while returning the short gun.

“Can <Zafkiel> still be used?”

Young Kurumi, referring now to the little Kurumi, had her expression turned pale hearing that. If their main power <Zafkiel> cannot be used, then they were literally helpless.

“……The First Bullet <Aleph>!”

Kurumi shot the bullet at herself to accelerate her time, kicking away a nearby white teacup by continuously firing from her guns.

“……I can use it. But it’s not good. <Zafkiel> is too big.”

Kurumi was operating both guns. However, in her current young Kurumi state, it required both her hands to even shoot, especially the long rifle which had grown even heavier.

“So, let me try it.”

“You’re still covered in wounds, can you use it?”

“Anyway, how about you wait and see.”

Cistus gave an invincible smile as she gracefully held the long gun in one hand and pulled the trigger. Bang, but rather than leaving a hole, the silver teapot hardly moved at all.

“The current me can only achieve up to this extent……”

“Why do you look so proud! That shot from me just now looks like someone on their last breath gasping for mercy! Are you an idiot!”

<Zafkiel>’s usual bullets wouldn’t consume time, but having been on the verge of death, Cistus seemed to have no extra strength left for shooting in the first place.

“Looks like the Kurumi household can make fools out of themselves on occasion……”

“I’ll slaughter you.”

Young Kurumi tried her best to aim a low kick at Hibiki’s knees.

“……This really is troublesome.”

Young Kurumi crossed her arms together and muttered with a gloomy look.

“Just as I thought, you’re still super cute no matter how many times being kicked!”

The hearts grew again on both her eyes as she suddenly latched onto small Kurumi.

“Get, get her off me again, can’t breathe.”

“Yes, yes. Please don’t spend an absurd amount of time recuperating from your illness.”

After receiving Cistus’s punch, Hibiki somehow settled down.

“Kurumi-san, please give me some bullets. Although I can’t fire like Kurumi-san, I can at least aim and shoot.”

Higoromo Hibiki had already twice transformed into Tokisaki Kurumi and could skillfully use

<Zafkiel>’s long gun. Of course, she didn’t have the ability to manipulate time.

“……You’ll harm yourself if you use it too much.”

Even if Hibiki used <King Killing> to take Kurumi’s form to use <Zafkiel>, she was still an imitation after all. When she robbed her powers, face, memories, and personality, there were only a few abilities accessible to her.

<Zafkiel> was a weapon that belonged exclusively to Tokisaki Kurumi.

It wasn’t something that Hibiki could use freely. But presently, they were the only fighting force available for their group.

“You two, I have something I want to ask.”

Suddenly, Cistus raised her hand.

“Let’s hear it.”

“I’ve been curious for a while now. But why are such large table, teapots, and teacups here?”

“That’s??why is it like that?”

“Right?”

“I would imagine that the inhabitants would have to be very??

Thump, a shockwave gushed out from the wall.

Thump, the room shook. The tremors could be mistaken for an earthquake, but these vibrations were gradually coming closer as it was occurring at regular intervals.

“I thought……it would be very……huge, but this……”

Young Kurumi, Hibiki, and Cistus stared at the monster that had opened the door with a stunned expression.

It was a huge white monster. It was a monster that had bulging muscles but also eyes as innocent as a child.

And there was one more problem. It had too many eyes. There was also not just a single nose and mouth as well.

Kusukusukusu, the laughter of countless girls echoed in the room??endlessly repeating over and over again.

This repulsiveness and eeriness reminded Kurumi and Hibiki of that girl associated with dolls.

Doll Master. ??A girl who would confine souls into dolls to increase the number of friends.

Similar to her group of subordinates, friends, and soldiers, the laughter of these girls was cold and heartless.

“There are guests.”

“We have guests.”

“Can’t let them escape.”

“Your limbs need to be removed.”

“Because we……”

“Are very powerful.”

Countless voice kept talking at the same time. The three of them quickly realized that this was one of the White Queen’s experiments.

“……A fusion of multiple Empty……”

Very strong arms. It was no wonder; this was the expected result when combining numerous arms together.

This excessively huge body, who knows how many Empty were used to synthesize this. In horrible taste, this huge monstrosity was adorned with a red dress decorated with frills. For a comparison, it was just like??a giant with a wasp’s nest for a head.

“……We need to retreat.”

“It would be best to be able to retreat.”

“That seems to be difficult.”

Hibiki glanced back. The door they had entered through had already disappeared.

The only huge door left was the one that ‘she’ had just entered through. In other words, unless they defeat this giant, they wouldn’t be able to reach the exit.

Young Kurumi and Hibiki gently exchanged glances??and then nodded to each other.

“Cistus, please stand back a little. Try and find a safe place to stay.”

“There’s nowhere safe at all in this place.”

Despite saying that, Cistus slowly drifted away from those two. Young Kurumi loaded the bullets into the pistol and handed it over to Hibiki.

The monster glared over the two like insignificant specks while licking her lips.

Despite being pushed into a desperate situation, young Kurumi still arrogantly sneered.

“Your tongue looks too stupid to appreciate the taste of black tea. Can you even distinguish the difference of Darjeeling tea stuffed with hot chili peppers?”

At that moment, the monster’s killing intent increased. Compared to being calm just a moment ago, she was now gritting her teeth.

“Kill her.” “Slaughter her.” “Got to hell.” “Don’t let her live!”

“Even if you’ve grown smaller, you’re still Kurumi-san deep down!”

“I’ll take that as a compliment!”

The monster’s feet smashed through inorganic cement floor in a single stroke.

“Well then, nameless monster-san let me give you a name. How about honeycomb yokai?”

“Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! My name is??Jabberwocky!”

“??Ara, either way you're still a monster.”

Cistus muttered those words, but her fury was seething so much that it wasn’t heard.

“Eat her!” “Eat her, eat her, eat her!”

Jabberwocky threw a punch, a preliminary action for tearing apart anything in front of her without any skill or ingenuity.

On the other hand, while young Kurumi may have shrunk to the point of needing both her hands to use her guns, but she was still a first-rate sharpshooter.

Young Kurumi dodged the punch by jumping onto the arm and ran up to approach her face. She set up <Zafkiel> towards that white block-like face and pulled the trigger.

Launching the bullet caused the muzzle to spring upward.

A scream that came from multiple people.

However, the monster didn’t waver, didn’t bleed, as it began to rampage without restraint.

That single blow only made her more violent, Kurumi couldn’t help but grin.

Jabberwocky’s arms struck the floor and walls as each step taken cause the ground to shake.

“Awawa, awawa, waaah!”

A Hibiki made a commotion as she ran about trying to escape, young Kurumi continued accurately shooting down at her prey. However, the massive physical strength exerted to shoot also caused her speed to naturally drop down.

Being forced into a desperate situation, little Kurumi’s body was smashed by Jabberwocky’s fist.

“Gu????kuu…………!”

“Kurumi-san!”

Young Kurumi was punched with enough momentum to sink her body into the wall.

Her consciousness faltered for a moment??the strong blow had gone through the weakened defenses of Spirit Dress of God’s Authority No. 3 <Elohim> and broke her ribs.

Jabberwocky smiled as she saw her vomit out blood.

“You wretch……!”

Hibiki began shooting at the fist approaching slowly her. However, it had no effect other than slightly grazing the skin.

Young Kurumi, who was embedded into the wall, contemplated that while watching the slowly approaching arm.

Her body couldn’t move anymore. While they may be captured alive, it stands to question if this monster still had that rationality left. Moreover, there would be no opportunities left for them after being caught alive.

Time slowly elapsed as she kept thinking at high speed. However, nothing more could be done.

While contemplating what would happen next after being captured, Kurumi finally noticed??something suspicious-looking other than Jabberwocky.

“……What is that?”

It was around Hibiki’s height, but the width was extremely wide. It should be mentioned that it was rectangular shape and resembled a sheet of paper. This object leaped into the air to protect young Kurumi from Jabberwocky’s fist.

Jabberwocky’s fist struck the strange object??without being pierced or destroyed, the object fluttered in the air before coming to a stop.

“Now, little ojou-san, hurry up and run away.”

“……Who are you……?”

A girl turned around to tell the stunned little Kurumi. A rectangular diamond symbol in the corner, a flat surfaced girl dressed up in splendid red clothes with her three braids swaying in rhythm to her movements.

But this was??a huge playing card.

“Don’t ask, go down, go down, someone will lead the way, someone will lead the way!”

Her manner of speaking was a bit monochrome. Young Kurumi painfully groaned while looking down……another huge playing card was there.

A girl in black……the poker cards bounced vibrantly as if to proclaim their existence to young Kurumi.

Hibiki stared in amazement at the playing cards jumping around.

“What is this exactly??”

“……Ara, I’m grateful. I didn’t expect these people to come to our rescue.”

“Who are these people?”

“……The White Queen overthrew the Dominion of the Third Region and rearranged this territory as the new Dominion.”

“Yes, that’s right.”

The White Queen was a heretical existence that suddenly emerged and was not the original Dominion. Otherwise, rumors about her would have been heard before reaching the Sixth Region Tiphereth. Moreover, in the first place, what she had heard about the Dominion of the Third Region Binah was naturally a different person than the White Queen.

“……Ah, speaking of which, wasn’t she a Quasi-Spirit connected to playing cards?”

“Indeed, just as you say!”

The playing cards responded back. The playing card suit was spades. Of course, she had a flat surface. The spade girl bravely swung her Japanese sword……even though she completely 2-dimensional.

“This was, over here ? ? ! Come over here ? ? !”

Even so, Hibiki thought to herself.

A Quasi-Spirit being a flat surface looked too surreal.

Jabberwocky used her fist to receive the blows, grinning while looking at the diamond playing cards.

“The dejected loser.”

“Look it’s the dejected loser that ran away.”

“The poor playing cards that fled after losing to the White Queen!”

“You’re the pathetic one ? ? becoming a disgusting monster ? ? ah how annoying! That’s why all believers are brain dead ? ? ! Like use, you must not hesitate to betray the king when trouble falls ? ? !”

The diamond playing card cheerfully laughed.

“Hey! Diamond! What are you talking about!”

“You don’t need to be concerned, this is for stalling time. Let’s hurry up!”

Landing on the ground, young Kurumi timidly opened her mouth.

“Um. ……Playing card-san?”

“Yes! Go here, hurry up this way!”

The playing card pointed a (flat) finger towards a door in that direction. Upon a closer inspection, two playing cards were there jumping up to attract attention.

“Come here! It’s over here!”

“Please come over here! Please hurry, please hurry!”

The heart suit and the clover suit, the two people (?) beckoned and appealed to them by bending the corners of their playing cards.

“……Let’s go ahead for the time being.”

“Understood!”

“Higoromo-san, can you please carry me on your back?”

Jabberwocky was no longer paying attention to them. She kept baring her fangs at the diamond playing cards. However, befitting the tenacity of the name diamond, they kept repeating their

provocations, no matter how many times struck down. Furthermore, the spades also jumped in to contribute to the attacks. The sturdy arms that could resist being shot at by Hibiki were deeply slashed by the flat 2D Japanese sword.

“Because we are two-dimensional, we are good at cutting things apart!”

“Things are just like this! So quickly go!”

Indeed, if they wanted to escape, now would be the perfect opportunity.

“It hurts……my ass, my ass……”

Young Kurumi’s group proceeded through the small door as instructed. The size was barely enough for Cistus, who could only proceed forward due to the heart and clubs pushing her in from behind.

“This pain is because Kurumi-san is well-rounded! And please stop kicking my knees Kurumi-chan!”

Naturally, young Kurumi wouldn’t permit anyone to make any thoughtless remarks about Cistus’s figure.

“Don’t be slow, go quickly!”

“Please hurry!”

The passage beyond the door was getting narrower. Young Kurumi was able to pass relatively easily, but it was tightly packed for both Cistus and Hibiki.

“I am tired, please drag me along.”

“I am also very tired!”

“……I feel very at ease!”

“Shit, don’t be pleased in yourself for being cute, Kurumi-chan! Ah, but you are already so cute, damn! I really want to hug you! To caress you! I really want to take a video of you dancing in front of the TV!”

“That’s a lot of desire leaking out.”

“I’m so scared, especially about that last statement. The narration is too specific and adds a dangerous taste.”

Young Kurumi, who was the first walking forward, kept moving ahead while being frightened at the gaze coming from behind. With the walls entirely gray and only a faint amount of light, the atmosphere of this space felt just like an attic. The faint light was likely coming from the corridor they were heading towards. Which meant??

“Here is a space form in the gap between walls……isn’t that correct?”

“That way of thinking is on the right track!”

A clubs playing card sticking onto the wall yelled. It was a girl dressed in sporty outfit shouting loudly.

“Think of this as the road to our resistance hideout!”

“Resistance……”

“Not much different from you, Tokisaki Kurumi, don’t you think!?”

“……What do you want with me?”

“I want you to meet our leader Carte-sama!!”

“Please join us!”

“Ah, I remember! The former Dominion of this region! Carte À Jouer! Certainly, it was that woman who used playing cards as her Unsigned Angel!”

Hearing what Hibiki cried out, the heart and clubs nodded a ‘un’ sound in agreement.

“Exactly! Our leader is Carte-sama! Very good, terrific!”

“What kind of person is she?”

“You will see her soon!”

……It looked like they will be able to meet her shortly. Young Kurumi and the others, without any better option, continued forward one step at a time in this tightly packed space while exhausted.

One Hour and Seventeen Minutes Remaining

Round and round, they were around the eighth lap. At the beginning, they had tried to memorize the route taken, but they soon lost the strength to do that after falling into the circumstances of endlessly running around this narrow monochrome passage.

Fortunately, as they moved forward, the passage became wider.

“Are we there yet?”

The playing cards traversing sideways on the walls responded back to young Kurumi’s exhausted cry. There was a slight resemblance to cockroaches that was loathed by an overwhelming majority of girls in the world. Well, only a little bit.

“We’ve almost arrived!”

“Please wait just a little bit longer!”

Finally, they seemed to have arrived. ……But, this was still part of the passage. And while having said that, there was no end in sight. In other words, this was a pathway rather than a room.

“What is the meaning of this?”

“??Because we are fleeing, naturally a disguise is vital.”

Hearing those words, young Kurumi raised the short gun of <Zafkiel> in shock.

No figure could be seen.

No traces could be captured at all, but there was a voice coming from the middle of this passageway. No, even now this could only be heard rather than seen.

“Where are you? Answer me.”

“Hah??I am here!”

The passageway suddenly began to distort. No, as the passageway was being removed, the surrounding area revealed a pure white room.

“This is just a magic trick. Welcome, welcome, the Spirit and her followers, and also??great people rebelling against that White Queen!”

Accompanied by that loud voice, pigeons immediately flew out at the same time and disappeared without a trace. The two playing cards gave loud cheers of applause.

This figure looked mysterious rather than beautiful.

A top hat, a butterfly mask for unknown use, and playing cards in her hands.

“Ara, this means that the former Dominion of the Third Region Binah was a magician.”

After hearing what Cistus had said, the somewhat foolish girl smiled and nodded.

“Yes, my name is Carte À Jouer! These playing cards are just props. Well uh, you guys are……”

Carte looked around restlessly between Cistus and young Kurumi. Cistus exchanged glances with young Kurumi and nodded silently. Of course, Kurumi could still fight despite become younger. Compared to Cistus whose looks remained the same but had lost her strength, of course, the former should be regarded as the genuine article.

Yes, it must be like this.

“It’s me.”

Young Kurumi proudly declared while triumphantly straightening her chest. Hearing those words, Carte approached Kurumi with one knee down like respectful vassal.

“Young Spirit, please tell me what your purpose is.”

“I came to knock those guys down.”

“??Who would that be?”

At this moment, her articulation needed to be clear and elegant. Kurumi took a deep breath as she slowly spewed out those words.

“Of course it is the White Queen. Because she and I are existences that are fated to run contrary to each other.”

Hearing those words, the expressions of the two playing cards began to sparkle. Carte also expressed a fearless smile while replying.

“Then, I will become your support and serve as your limbs. For you, who is regarded as an existence equivalent to God in our region.”

The look more resembled a knight rather than a magician.

“What do you hope to accomplish with this?”

Revealing her distrust, young Kurumi looked at her with suspicion. Is she a comrade or is she hiding something? At the very least, it was unclear why she was willing to sacrifice her own life.

“As I said earlier, you are the equivalent to a God in the Third Region Binah. Therefore, I believe that you have arrived here to save us from our plight.”

“……I see.”

For the time being, it was a believable motive. For Carte, the humiliation of being deprived of the Third Region Binah must be immeasurable.

She would likely be a powerful ally. But??there was a subtle discomfort. There was something about Carte that young Kurumi wanted to call into question.

“……You don’t need to be my limbs. I already don’t want anyone serving under me like that anymore.”

“……”

As Carte frowned and sank her face downward, young Kurumi reached out her hand towards her.

“However, our goal is the same; let us fight side by side. Not as an extension of my limbs, but fighting together for the sake of self-defense!”

Was this a little over the top? Kurumi felt a little embarrassed for saying this.

“Thank you Tokisaki Kurumi, the true Spirit. Let’s fight together as allies. By the way, the two people behind you are??”

“They are Higoromo Hibiki-san and another me .”

“Next……let me explain. When listening to the unclear explanation coming from me , my head hurt a bit.”

Although that was a terrible remark, what she had said wasn’t necessarily incorrect.

“I am Higoromo Hibiki. Kurumi-san’s……buddy?”

“My subordinate.”

“Yes! Her partner!”

Hibiki was not discouraged in the slightest by little Kurumi’s whimsical words and demeanor.

“I see, so she is like a familiar. I understand I also have something like that.”

“……Actually that said, I am like family……of course I am the younger sister, Kurumi-san. Ah, but you’re Kurumi-chan right now, so am I the older sister? Kurumi-chan, do you want to take a bath with your older sister? No problem, leave it to me!”

“If you dare step closer to me, I’ll shoot! I’ll do it!”

Young Kurumi relentlessly pointed her pistol at her. There was the impression of losing something important if Hibiki approached any closer.

In summary……

“First of all, I can’t do anything without restoring my body.”

Likely getting accustomed to her abbreviated speech, little Kurumi was beginning to speak more smoothly. That said, she gazed at <Zafkiel>’s short gun which she couldn’t use freely anymore.

This tiny body was difficult to withstand the recoil from her pistol. Her reflection in the mirror was very cute, super cute……but!

“Unfortunately, I have to agree. Carte-san, what was that trap in the first place?”

Hmm, Carte twisted her neck while thinking it over. Rather than not wanting to explain, it seemed more like she didn’t know where to start.

“Some things are difficult to judge from my point of view. Let me explain the situation of this region from scratch. Is that okay?”

Kurumi and the others nodded, urging her to continue on.

“Originally, the Third Region Binah was just like the Ninth Region Yesod, a place of refuge for harmless Quasi-Spirits. As the Dominion here, I could control time and shadows, making it a breeze to hide them.”

“Makes sense. Because of this, no one can guard like you right? Anywhere you appear, Quasi-Spirits will be saved.”

Hearing Hibiki words of praise, Carte shook her head as if saying, “Ah, how embarrassing”.

“It can’t be helped. That’s the price for fame. But because of overuse of this, the time in this region flows very slowly in the Neighboring World.”

“Is that trap on that door also because of that?”

“Perhaps. The limits of her Dominion Rate of this region are the equivalent to a God. Regardless of the other regions, as long as someone becomes Dominion here, they’ll be able to control time freely.”

“……Dominion Rate? I’ve never heard about this before, Hibiki-san.”

Hibiki shrugged her shoulders.

“The Dominion Rate isn’t very important in the Tenth Region Malkuth and Ninth Region Yesod.

I’m not able to describe it clearly, so I left it out. I’ll leave the specific explanation to Carte-san.”

“The simplest clearest explanation is……a numerical quantification of how much control a Dominion has over her territory. It also refers to the extent to which a Dominion can tamper with her region.”

The reason why this is considered unimportant is because the Dominion Rate has nothing to do with being recognized by everyone as the Dominion. In the Tenth Region Malkuth, Doll Master had a Dominion Rate at about 35%, but that 35% was enough for her to stably have full control over the region. The reason for this is because an increasing amount of locations in the Tenth Region Malkuth have become battlefields where Quasi-Spirits continually try and kill each other.

Incidentally, having transitioned from the Ninth Region Yesod to here, little Kurumi didn’t know that the joint Dominions Banouin Mizuha and Kirari Rinemu have a Dominion Rate exceeding 80%. ……But, since they only used it to hold live concerts, this Dominion Rate was meaningless.

“In the Eight Region Hod, there seems to be two major factions at 45% each fighting for control.

But what I have to say next is the problem……”

Letting out a sigh, Carte informed them.

“Currently, my Dominion Rate is 5%, and when I investigated Dominion Rate of that White Queen??it exceeded 150%.”

Everyone’s eyes stared in shock at this impossible number.

……Hibiki was the first one to arrive at the truth.

“Could it be that, the Dominion Rates of other regions are also included……?”

“Smart guess. The White Queen has already reached out to other areas including the Ninth Region Yesod.”

“……So that’s it, then during that time……”

Hibiki remembered how the White Queen had appeared without warning in the Ninth Region during the fight against Rook. At that time she thought it was just like magic, but the real reason was because the surrounding area had already been altered by the White Queen’s Dominion rate.

“She uses a messenger as a proxy to encroach on each region. The Tenth Region Malkuth, the Ninth Region Yesod, and also the Eight Region Hod that’s weakened by civil strife, the region expansion seems to be focused on those areas. And the more troublesome matter is, as long as

she holds a fixed influence on any particular region, that White Queen can take claim of those areas as its ruler.”

“Are there any countermeasures?”

“……Fortunately, her expansion requires using the Empties as her subordinates, so the amount is negligible. As long as the three executives aren’t mobilized, it’s unlikely that she will be able to appear in the region.”

“Regarding the Ninth Region Yesod, if you tell this to Rinemu-san and Mizuha-san, they can take the appropriate countermeasures. But what should we do about the Tenth Region Malkuth?”

“……I don’t have time to think about this for now. Let’s come back to this after finding a way to escape.”

“That’s true. First of all, we need to restore her time. We need to take back the time that was snatched away.”

“Ah, Kurumi-san, Kurumi-san. Can you use that bullet which can advances the time of the target?”

“Are you talking about <Gimmel>? It can be used, but……”

There was no doubt that Kurumi’s time had been taken away. In other words, her time was being kept hidden somewhere. The problem also lies in it being almost impossible to recover from the consequences of using the Third Bullet <Gimmel>.

“For example, I would want to use the Fourth Bullet <Dalet> to rewind time to cure my wounds.

But in my current state, it would be difficult to rejuvenate myself and it’s impossible to revive someone that has already died. If I want to rejuvenate myself, it would be necessary to make modifications on <Zafkiel> first.”

Honestly, the most frightening thing for Kurumi would be the effects of the Third Bullet

<Gimmel> having a compounded effect with taking back her time, causing her to enter the last phase of her growing years.

There were also a number of bullets still unusable right now, so she wasn’t even quite sure what change this would bring.

Even when carrying all these risks, the desired result would be no different from the situation of simply trying to recover her stolen time.

“There’s the possibility that by adding time and time together, I will look older than how I originally looked……I think I may turn into my thirties.”

“A more mature Kurumi-san, that is to say a married woman……wow!”

Hibiki collapsed onto the ground with a nosebleed, but little Kurumi decided to not pay attention to this. Judging from the last words said, she must not be thinking anything serious.

“Of course, I shouldn’t say this if the situation turns urgent. However, for the time being I would want to start searching for my time. Carte-san, do you know where it might be?”

After little Kurumi finished talking, Carte nodded.

“Of course. That room will snatch away the time of the person who enters first and there is also a room where that stolen time is accumulated. I have already carefully investigated this.”

“Where is that room?”

“Unfortunately, that location has become unknown due to that prior rearrangement. The only thing certain is the riddle written on the door and a gatekeeper like the Jabberwocky positioned there.”

“A riddle……?”

“Yeah, according to the report from the playing cards……the riddle itself is a mystery since I haven’t seen it myself.”

“This gatekeeper……is it still another experimental guinea pig modified from the Empty? Is there any more information about this?”

“That’s correct! That strange thing’s true colors are a mystery!”

Everyone turned around towards that unexpected voice. A spades playing card was repeatedly jumping up in high-spirits.

“Hey, welcome back Ace. What happened to Nine of Diamonds?”

“Duties completed and brilliantly destroyed!”

“D-Dead? How come…..!”

Hibiki let out a shocked expression, but the spades playing card girl named Ace tilted her head strangely at this.

“What’s so……amazing about that?”

“Oh, that’s right. I haven’t explained their characteristics to everyone yet.”

Swish, Carte shuffled her playing cards. Despite the action putting on airs of being pretentious, her sharp beautiful looks and androgynous garments gave a somewhat regrettable impression of it being considered a good fit.

She shuffled the deck and pulled out a single card.

“This deck of playing cards is my Unsigned Angel. Its name is <Servante Éphémère>. ??The ability to create them.”

She gently stroked the head of a nearby girl with the heart suit.

“Please, it’s embarrassing, funya.”

The girl gave an adorable response as Carte watched on with a somewhat lonely look.

“They are my soldiers. A pseudo-lifeform created by dividing my reiryoku. They can faithfully complete any order given, but they are unable to communicate at all.”

“……It’s not possible for them to communicate?”

“That’s exactly right!” “Please know that we don’t understand feelings!” “Please forgive us for answering the questions raised!”

The playing cards opened their mouths to inform them. While their voices were lively, their tone felt somewhat fixed.

“From my point of view, Kurumi, your power is unusual. I am a Quasi-Spirit of the third genus.

In the past, fellow third genus Quasi-Spirits would make use of the special characteristic of

‘shadows’ to create numerous copies. But only to the extent of a doll used for bait. Even for myself, it takes all my strength to create this kind of lively reply. Although they behave emotionally, it’s still purely mechanical. No, it’s already beyond amazing.”

“……That’s right.”

Little Kurumi felt a little distressed while acknowledging this.

The clones are definitely the strongest weapon in Tokisaki Kurumi’s <Zafkiel>. And the bullet that produces it is the Eighth Bullet <Het>. However, it was sealed for some reason due to her lack of memories. No, of course there are other bullets that also cannot be used. All the details involving the ability of the Eleventh Bullet <Yud Aleph and Twelfth Bullet Yud Bet> were missing.

However, somewhere in her mind, there was the recognition of there being no problems with the Eleventh Bullet <Yud Aleph and Twelfth Bullet Yud Bet>. Although it wasn’t clear what the abilities were, the only thing certain was that they were not bullets she should use.

Still the inability to use the Eight Bullet <Het> was an unimaginable and fatal shortcoming.

The inverted body, the White Queen had an ability called the Scorpio Bullet <Akrab>. The three executives??at the very least, Rook’s abilities was comparable to her own.

The original Tokisaki Kurumi could easily employ the clones as an overwhelming force to crush opposition. Bur for herself right now??

“Now, only having three for my troops doesn’t look that good. My reiryoku has accumulated. It’s almost time to revive her…...”

“Revive……?”

Carte pulled out the Nine of Diamonds playing card.

“Now, Nine of Diamonds, resurrect.”

Carte flicked the card away with her fingertips. With the sound effect of a gaudy firecracker, a young girl jumped out. She had red hair like a diamond suit but her hair was styled in a ponytail compared to her previous self. Of course, she was completely two dimensional.

“New life obtained! My debut is here!”

“Yes, this is good. These speech patterns haven’t been used yet.”

“Is that important?”

As little Kurumi asked while amazed, Carte gave an especially sincere reply.

“Without these different personalities, I can’t consider those guys as partners who’ve sacrificed their lives for me.”

“……”

Seeing the atmosphere suddenly grow heavy, Carte hurriedly pedaled back the conversation.

“Don’t worry about this. The important point is your power. Your power is the key to victory.”

“Well, my strength is quite important??”

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck little Kurumi. She seemed to be using those four playing cards for reconnaissance, which meant there had to be some information about her.

“……Carte-san, there’s one thing I wish to ask you about.”

“Please ask away, I’ll explain everything that I know.”

“That White Queen??can she produces clones? A copy no different from myself by extracting a temporal body from my past.”

“No, although I’ve only fought her once, her ability to increase companions is called the Scorpio Bullet <Akrab>. Other than that, she hasn’t used any other abilities to increase the number of her followers. Of course, the Empties standing in her fraction are a different matter.”

“Empties……”

“Those girls are just nothing. They aren’t any problem no matter how many.”

Innocent, harmless, nothings, such were the girls named Empty.

But??Hibiki, who was once such an existence, was already concerned about this.

“The White Queen turns them into monsters and they are still willing. This isn’t coercion, but rather the charisma for the leader and their devotion to her.”

For the Empties, the White Queen was closer to God than being their master.

“So I don’t think we should look down on them.”

“Of course I know about that! You don’t need to tell me. I’m fighting here too. It’s different from you who can’t do anything!”

“Mummumumu!”

“Gummumumu!”

Carte looked somewhat dissatisfied while informing and glaring at Hibiki. Hibiki returned the gesture in turn. Even though they were now comrades fighting against the White Queen, there was an indescribable mutual hostility for some reason.

Little Kurumi clapped her hands together.

“Yes, yes, that’s all we know for the subject about the Empties. This is getting off topic. Let’s get back to the story of that monster. So who is the gatekeeper of the room where I need to regain my time?”

“Unidentifiable!” “Mysterious!” “Absolutely invisible!” “Completely perfect!”

The four playing cards panicked as they danced.

“For now, I only know the name. Snark. It’s an unidentified monster from Lewis Carroll’s works.”

In Lewis Carrol’s work, The Hunting of the Snark, the so-called Snark had five special characteristics.

“Taste is hollow and crispy and has a Will-o-wisp fragrance.”

“Loves to sleep late. It has breakfast at 5 PM and dinner the next morning.”

“Very little sense of humor.”

“Drags around in seawater to bathe.”

“Grows feathers to bite people and whiskers to scratch them.”

“Ordinary varieties are harmless except for the Boojum variety.”

Following the description this far, Hibiki raised her hand to speak.

“Um, sorry, I don’t know Lewis Carrol at all, but isn’t this too ridiculous?”

“Naturally.”

Little Kurumi responded back.

“The Snark is a fictional creature imagined by Lewis Carrol. The ridiculous and humorous features are specifically designed to make the story interesting. I don’t think real monsters would have those characteristics.”

“You have a discerning eye. To put it simply, the Snark is an existence we have yet to define??‘nothing known’, ‘no chance to win’, ‘no shape visible’. ……As of this moment, they have never won a battle against the Snark. Just be unilaterally attacked and defeated. I have also once fought it and couldn’t even catch sight of its figure.”

“Couldn’t even see its figure? What did it feel like when attacked?”

“The blows felt like being slashed or shot at. It was quite painful. My Astral Dress is defensively strong……but there was also the impression of being bitten.”

“To put it simply, that’s too vague.”

“That’s right. Well, how embarrassing.”

“No, no, don’t say that. I will definitely find a solution to this problem. Thank you, Carte-san. I will defeat that Snark.”

Even with her youthful appearance, Tokisaki Kurumi stretched her chest out in full confidence as she made that declaration.

One Hour and Six Minutes Remaining

Tap, tap, tap, there was the feeling of her back being gently struck. Hibiki wanted to turn around, but a whisper close to her ear stiffened her body.

(Don’t move, don’t talk.)

The clone Cistus had already escaped from leaning on Hibiki as she repeatedly tapped against on her back.

(I don’t trust this Quasi-Spirit.)

Hibiki also used her finger to tap against Cistus to reply to her.

(Certainly, there are a few suspicious parts……)

As far as Carte was concerned, Hibiki had some opinions as well. Her goal??was likely to regain control of this region again. It wasn’t as if Hibiki didn’t understand that.

The existence of a Spirit has been heard by every Quasi-Spirit living in the Neighboring World.

Rather, it should be said that their souls naturally understood this.

There was once a Spirit in this world.

Their power was absolutely beyond their reach, an existence closest to God as possible.

However, the current Tokisaki Kurumi couldn’t display that power. Proof of being a Spirit hadn’t been established. The presence of a clone was iron-clad evidence of this.

In the first place, there was no guarantee that the young Tokisaki Kurumi and the Tokisaki Kurumi who was nearby are the same existence……so it’s too early to necessarily talk about trust.

Of course, perhaps there was something that only a third Spirit genus type could understand.

Perhaps they were able to intuitively sense the existence that should be called God.

(Anyway, please be careful.)

(I already know.)

“Okay Hibiki-san, let’s go Snark hunting.”

“Ah, yes! But what are you going to do? Isn’t the opponent a mysterious monster?”

“Indeed, that’s right. What sort of method should be use to suppress that monster?”

As Ace of Spades finished speaking, little Kurumi smiled.

“You can’t explain it with words. Strike an unidentified enemy with an unidentified attack. This is an iron-clad rule.”

“?” “??” “???” “????”

The four playing cards, as well as Carte and Hibiki, expressed their doubts. Only Cistus was nodding in agreement.

“But which manner should we attack it?”

“This is something that our inverted clone produced. If so??it should follow the original work closely. As you can imagine, that inverted clone’s personality is quite twisted.”

“Exactly, it’s as you say.”

“Kurumi-san. Kuru-Kuru-Kuru-Kuru-Kurumi-san! Please don’t talk just among yourself! Let us in on the specific details!”

“You can just help by finding the door that leads to that room. And also Hibiki-san, never address me like that again in the future.”

In this manner, the four people and four cards began their strange adventure.
