"Why is it so familiar?" Su Bai suddenly said. In the meantime, he slowly knitted his eyebrows as if he was trying to recall something.
Fatty pointed over. "There are many people over there, and they look familiar. What are they speaking? English?"
"Yep, English," Ego answered. He was a high school teacher, so he was more conversant with that.
"I remember. I’ve seen a dark horror comedy. From the moment we entered the convenience store until now where we are on a boat, everything is exactly following the plot of that movie."
"Horror comedy?" Fatty was intrigued, "So are we heroes or supporting characters?"
"According to that movie, we’re doing what the heroes did… Then the supporting characters on the shore will try everything to kill us, but they will end up killing themselves one by one with all kinds of accidents and coincidence. It’s like the Final Destination."
"So we’re not gonna die? We’re safe? Good to know… Ah ah ah ah!!!!"
"Zap!"
Fatty was talking excitedly but suddenly, he burst out a scream. A wood-pared javelin went right through his arm. Luckily, there was much fat on his arm so it wasn’t deadly, but with such a pointed stick piercing through his arm, Fatty panicked due to the fierce pain and the sudden danger.
Ego immediately stretched out both hands and formed an invisible wall with his willpower. Next, more wooden arrows and javelins came at them but were all blocked by the willpower wall.
"What kind of heroes are we?"
Fatty was pissed off. Bearing the pain, he clenched his teeth and pulled out the tiny stick from his arm. Then he tore off his clothes to bind up the wound. Everything was so smooth; it seemed that Fatty was indeed experienced in such a situation, which meant he was used to getting hurt.
Su Bai put one hand under against the boat. Then, he felt the wetness in his palm. His eyes widened at once.
"The boat’s leaking! Pull over! Now!"
Yes, one misfortune came on the neck of another— this good-looking wooden boat started leaking at this moment.
However, before they could approach the shore, a strong impact suddenly came from under the boat.
"Bang!"
The boat shook and started to break; apparently, it couldn’t last anymore.
"Flop!"
"Flop!"
"Flop!"

Su Bai, Ego, and Fatty all fell into the water. Ego and Fatty somehow managed to keep most of their bodies up on the water, but Su Bai was upside down in the water because he was in the middle of the boat where the cracking began. Luckily, Su Bai could swim, so he wouldn’t get drowned easily.
Fatty’s flashlight was dropped off and had reached the bottom of the river. Su Bai opened his eyes in the water and saw a blood-freezing scene: on the riverbed, there were dead people walking lines upon lines!
Among them, there was a man wearing something like an old worn office uniform. He raised up his head slightly; his face was entirely rotten to the skull, but he was still wearing a pair of glasses, the frames of which were silver and reflecting the light.
Though he was expressionless, Su Bai could tell that he was smiling.
Next, he started to go up slowly and directly headed towards Su Bai.
Beneath them, more and more corpses started to go up with their hands and feet waving aimlessly, like sharks that had tasted blood and come after their prey.
Su Bai immediate floated up. His head came out of the water, but before he could speak, an arrow came at him. In the water, he couldn’t dodge immediately, so the arrow went into his shoulder. The hit shook his body and forced him to turn over.
Just then, a hand grabbed his shoulder. The hand was from above; the corpses coming from beneath were still away from him.
"Poof…"
Su Bai came out of the water again and spat out some water.
Fatty was grabbing him with one hand. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. But down there…"
"Zap! Zap! Zap!!!"
More pointed sticks and arrows were coming without stopping. It was becoming harder and harder for Ego to hold them all because they were coming from various directions and he could hardly look out for everything.

"Get ashore, quickly! Can’t stay in the water, those people are getting closer. We’re too vulnerable in water!" Ego shouted.
"Underwater! Walking dead! A lot of them! They are coming!" Su Bai finally managed to state what he had seen.
"What!"
Fatty and Ego were astounded. They put their heads in the water together; the light from Fatty’s flashlight was dying out, but they could still see clearly that there were people approaching.
"F*ck! What a game! People on the shore, ghosts under the water! Bai, is this all in that movie?"
Su Bai shook his head with a fake smile. "We won’t have the good luck as those heroes. Besides, our enemies are not walk-on characters with extremely low IQ."
Ego yelled; his eyes went bloodshot and apparently, he was about to force out his full potential.
"Guys, I may pass out in a minute. I’ll count on you. Don’t push me away after the best part!"
"…" Fatty.
"…" Su Bai.
Ego roared, and grabbed Su Bai’s shoulder with one hand then Fatty with the other. Next, they started to slide backward rapidly. Gradually, the voices from the shore died away.
He managed to hold on until they were back to the little wharf. At last, Ego spat out blood, looked at Su Bai and Fatty with solemnity, then passed out.
Fatty was hurt, so Su Bai dragged Ego out of the water and carried him on his back.
"This cabin… Are we really gonna stay here?" Fatty was worried. "Now that I’m sort of injured, and Ego is out, our fighting capacity has been reduced by half! If we continue staying here, sooner or later those people will find this place."
"It has not been a day yet. If we leave the cabin, we will break the plot." Su Bai said, "Fatty, take care of Ego, I’ll go try to draw them away from this cabin. At least I can buy you some time."
"F*ck, that’s gonna be too risky!"
Su Bai smiled and pulled out the wooden arrow from his shoulder.
"These common weapons are all they’ve got, and they won’t do much harm to me. I can take it but you guys can’t." Su Bai pulled out a kitchen knife from Fatty’s pocket which he had bought from the convenience store. "You should go back now."
"Okay, fine. Be safe."
After Su Bai turned back and ran into the woods, Fatty carried Ego on his shoulder and walked into the cabin.
He put Ego onto the chair by the fireplace. Ego staggeringly got up.
"You fat ass! Can’t you be gentle?"
Seeing Ego just woke up like that, Fatty wasn’t surprised at all. He just asked,
"Is it really okay that we treat him like that?"
"Ha, sending him away is actually protecting him. Otherwise, if we have disagreements on the plunders, we will have to hold back from fighting against each other for fear of injuring him, or we’ll have to kill him for his share. But he’s kind of smart. He offered to distract those people, so you didn’t have to make such a suggestion."
"I will not consider his share if Litchi’s not leaving." Fatty shrugged, "We found this together, of course we shall share everything."
"Nonsense! I won’t either, if Litchi’s still here. But Litchi and the others are going to be away for at least half a year! Half a year! A lot of things can happen in such a long time. We can’t babysit for all that time, can we? He’s just nobody. He’s not worthy."
"That’s harsh. He’s actually a pretty good audience."
"Only true capability counts here. Weak people are useless!" Ego was standing in front of the fireplace. "Okay, cut the crap. I don’t know how long that boy can hold, but he’s a vampire. He should be able to keep them busy for quite a while. You’re a Taoist, so you must be capable of solving this matrix here. Tell me how and I’ll move the furniture. We should hurry up."
Fatty nodded and started to guide Ego. After the droplight was moved as the last step, the fire in the fireplace instantly died out, the wall in the back sank and revealed a dark space.
"Come on, let’s go check it out." Ego patted on Fatty’s shoulder.
Fatty was surprised for a moment; then he sighed, bent over and followed Ego into the fireplace.
...
On another slope outside the wooden house, Su Bai was sitting alone on a piece of a stump. He was holding a cigarette but didn’t light it up. The knife was sticking in the dirt in front of him.
Inside his sight, two men’s shadows were moving on the window. Both shadows were moving.
There was something called "innocence", but there was something else called "reality". Su Bai knew it well.
Just then, he sensed a rustling sound from the woods behind him.
He smiled, and pulled out the knife.
