Afterword
The other day, I had an opportunity to talk with Tsuyoshi Nanajyou, a fellow author and coworker of mine at GA Bunko, about a certain strategy RPG.
“Book nine’s cover artwork, the one that just went on sale—she looks a lot like Tiki, don’t you think?”
“…I didn’t notice that before, but yes, she does~.”
I know everything. The look in Mr. Nanajyou’s eyes was terrifying.
There’s quite a bit that I would like to write here.
I could talk about how the plot became so difficult to work with that I nearly threw my pen across the room, the problems that introducing so many new characters caused, how much it took established characters out of the spotlight, how I couldn’t establish the presence I wanted for the minotaur heroine, how I became nauseous thinking of 800 years’ worth of failures, my history with Mr. Nanajyou and Tiki, and how he told me at the last moment.
I faced many problems writing this volume, but I feel like what happened at the end is what saved me. Thank you, Tiki. Sorry for always using the Aum Staff.
With that out of the way, this is the tenth book. I hope it was worth the wait.
While I’m both shocked and honored to reach such a milestone, I’m most grateful for being able to write what I want. I will continue to challenge the rules of the fantasy genre as well as myself to continuously produce interesting content.
Changing topics, I would like to say that while making books nine and ten into two halves of the same story was damaging enough, the original plan was to have characters from book five of the side story, slated for simultaneous release, involved with the plot as well. “The reason this character had this item was because…” That would have been fleshed out in the side story, but it would have taken too much away from this book. I believe readers who have not read the side story would have taken a very serious issue with this, so I’ve made the decision to proceed with the main story in a way that readers won’t have to read both series to enjoy. Please don’t worry.
And now to stop with the apologies.
To my supervisor at GA Bunko, Mr. Kotaki; to Mr. Suzuhito Yasuda, who once again came through with beautiful illustrations for this volume; and to everyone who lent their support, please allow me to express my gratitude here. This series couldn’t have reached ten volumes without all your help and support. It is thanks to you and, of course, to my readers above all else. Thank you so much for your constant encouragement.
I would also like to say thank you to Mr. Ponkan ?, for creating the limited-edition cover illustrations at release and to Mr. Kunieda for bringing this world to life in comic form. I’m extremely grateful for your work.
Nothing would make me happier than to meet again in the next volume. I’ll take my leave until then.
