“Did Princess Jun Wuxia bring the fish?” Feng Wu asked again.
The empress dowager was only half-conscious, so she replied to Feng Wu’s question. “She cooked it herself… It tasted awful…”
Feng Wu didn’t say a word.
Emperor Wu looked at Feng Wu. “Was there something wrong with the fish?”
Feng Wu cleared her throat.
Emperor Wu stared at her. “Was it because of the roast fish?!”
Feng Wu said, “That’s right. The roast fish wasn’t very clean.”
That was an understatement. Feng Wu had actually been the one to put the tickling powder on the fish, but she never expected the fish to end up in the empress dowager’s hands.
“It wasn’t clean?! How dare she do that, giving Her Majesty unclean food?! Bring the princess here!” Emperor Wu was obviously infuriated.
Feng Wu and Feng Xun exchanged conflicted looks.
Poor Jun Wuxia. She had no idea that she was in a lot of trouble.
Right now, she was talking to Mrs Dugu and Mrs Zuo.
“Feng Wu’s roast fish? It tasted awful!” She rolled her eyes.
Mrs Zuo said, “Are you sure? Feng Xun and Xuan Yi were fighting over it. How can it not taste good?”
Jun Wuxia said, “Heh! I tried it myself, and I can tell good food from bad, okay?!”
Both Mrs Dugu and Mrs Zuo gave her strange looks.
Jun Wuxia flared up. “Hey, what’s with those looks? What kind of person do you think I am? Don’t assume things! I’m telling you, even Her Majesty didn’t like her roast fish. She put it down after just a few bites!”
Mrs Zuo and Mrs Dugu still looked unconvinced.
They had talked to Her Majesty before and saw how excited the old lady had been when she thought that they had brought her the fish.
Feeling wronged, Jun Wuxia lost her temper.
But before she could do anything, Master Bai, the eunuch serving Emperor Wu, arrived.
“Your Royal Highness, His Majesty wants to see you.” Master Bai’s tone was very calm, but one could tell that there was an anxious look in his eyes.
But Jun Wuxia didn’t notice.
She asked excitedly, “Does my father want to see me? Great! I was planning to go and see His Majesty just now.”
She was convinced of the happy notion that she was the emperor’s favorite daughter. Otherwise, why would he want to see only her?
Seeing how happy Jun Wuxia was, Master Bai said hesitantly, “Your Royal Highness, actually…”
Jun Wuxia had no idea what Master Bai was trying to tell her. She patted him on the shoulder and smiled. “Bai, take this gold ring as a reward. Don’t worry. There’s more to come.”
Master Bai said, “Your Royal Highness, actually, it’s Her Majesty…”
Jun Wuxia was thrilled.
She wondered if the empress dowager had remembered how considerate Jun Wuxia had been to bring her the food, and had told Jun Wuxia’s father about it…
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became. Looking into Master Bai’s eyes, she asked, “Where’s my father?! Bai, tell me! Where is His Majesty?!”
“His Majesty is with Her Majesty the empress dowager…” And he couldn’t wait to flog Jun Wuxia!
