When the meeting ended, Fan Yi remarked, “Feng Jichuan is so amazing, he only got here last year but he’s already promoted to a squad commander. He’s one the fastest I’ve seen moving up the ladder.”
“He’s a capable man,” Fang Qi sighed, “He’s climbing up the ranks by his own merits though. I heard that when that druggie tried to escape on the boat, nobody dared to chase after him except for Feng Jichuan, he even managed to defend against three of his guys. Who else is capable of that?”
Everyone was silent then.
Nian Xi was feeling frustrated, she had become a police officer way before Jichuan. Now that he was back, he was getting promoted way faster than her.
Of course, there were plenty of other people who were rising up the ranks faster than her, but Feng Jichuan was different, she wanted to fight for her pride.
Back at the office, Captain Cheng held a meeting again.
He reviewed some of the major cases from last year and when he ended, he called out Nian Xi’s name.
“Captain,” Nian Xi, looked up quickly.
Captain Cheng thew a file at her, “I’ll leave this case to you and Fang Qi.”
Nian Xi was stunned when Captain Cheng started turning on the projector, “Deceased name is Duan Yang, he is a post-graduate doctorate student at Xia City University faculty of physics. After winter break last year, Duan Yang disappeared and the school had thought that he had already gone home. But his family never saw him again and they reported the case to the police. Two days ago, someone discovered a corpse in the countryside. We have already identified the body as Duan Yang and the time of death is over ten days ago.”
Nian Xi frowned as the Captain smiled, “There’s always a motive behind every murder, but this is quite a difficult case. I hope you will be able to work well with Fang Qi, I’ll leave it up to the two of you. I have a feeling that you will have to investigate this case up until when school reopens, the suspect may be from the victim’s school circle.”
“Thank you captain,” Nian Xi was pleased, it was the first time she was formally investigating a case ever since she was transferred to the Interpol Brigade.
After the meeting ended, Nian Xi and Fang Qi spent the afternoon discussing the case.
The two of them went to the site where the body was discovered and met Duan Yang’s parents. They also looked at the video footage of Duan Yang’s last day in school.
After the lantern festival, Nian Xi and Fang Qi went to the University.
It was the second day of school reopening and the two of them arrived at the campus at around ten o’clock. They spoke to Duan Yang’s mentor and went to the classrooms to look for some classmates that he was close to.
At the classroom. Nian Xi saw that the large lecture theatre was completely filled with students. There were about three hundred students or so, it was a full house.
She was in awe, “Students nowadays are so serious, Duan Yang’s classmates are all doctorates, aren’t they? What are they doing in class and not in their research labs?”
“Yeah,” Fang Qi nodded his head, “But did you realize, there are far more female students here.”
Nian Xi noticed it when he reminded her, they saw two female students rushing through the doors as she looked around, one of them was saying, “Hurry, we can’t get any seats if we’re late. It’s rare for Professor Jiang to hold a lecture.”
Nian Xi was stunned, the class bell rang and a long and tall figure appeared at the stairway on her right. He was wearing a simple gray coat and a black sweater underneath. It complimented his complexion well, he looked clean and handsome. His hair was black and shiny while the sunlight was streaming in from window behind him. He was as fresh as the eucalyptus tree behind him.
Fang Qi and Nian Xi were a little stunned, the man was approaching them holding two books in his arms. He appeared deep in thought, his pupils were out of focus when Fang Qi called out to him, “Mr. Jiang, don’t you remember us?”
