When Murong Cheng saw everyone return to the ward, she immediately walked towards Nian Xi. “Are you tired? Does it hurt anywhere?”
Nian Xi glanced at her mother sullenly. “I feel terrible all over, but the thing that I’m the most uncomfortable with is the fact that you told Jiang Yuning that I was dead!”
“I did not,” Murong Cheng replied crossly. “Why would I curse my daughter out of the blue?”
Nian Xi swept a disgruntled look at Jiang Yuning.
Jiang Yuning seemed aggrieved as he scratched the back of his head. “But Aunty, you clearly said that Xixi was gone. I thought you meant that…”
“I meant that she was gone for a check-up,” Murong Cheng replied flatly. “I was in a bad mood, so I left out the subsequent parts of the sentence. Do you have a problem with that? Well, you shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions.”
Jiang Yuning lowered his head in silence. He did not dare to have an opinion about Nian Xi’s mother had said.
“Besides, we also talked to you in the corridor earlier on, and you should have seen your attitude towards us.” Nian Junting began to settle scores with him.
“Yes.” Nian Junlei nodded his head in agreement. “You were very fierce to us.”
Jiang Yuning looked at them blankly, before asking hesitantly, “Since when did I bump into you guys?”
Nian Junting was speechless.
He had tussled with Jiang Yuning for a long time earlier on, and Jiang Yuning had even glared at him. To think that Jiang Yuning did not care about him at all!
Nian Junlei choked when he heard Jiang Yuning’s reply, and he gave a thumbs up to Jiang Yuning. “Impressive! We’ve talked to you for so long, we might as well be talking to the air.”
“I’m sorry,” Jiang Yuning said apologetically. “My mind was completely blank earlier on. I genuinely have no idea what I did.”
Nian Junting smirked coldly. “What’s the point in apologizing? When can you correct all these flaws of yours? If Nian Xi had left us last night, you truly wouldn’t be able to see her anymore. We kept calling you, but you never answered your phone. Let’s assume that you’ve married Nian Xi and she became pregnant. If we can’t reach you during the critical moment of her labor, then what’s the point in having a husband like you?”
Nian Xi remained silent. While she was aware of Jiang Yuning’s autism, she was disappointed when she heard about how uncontactable he was when she regained consciousness in the morning.
Nian Junting’s words were like a hammer, clobbering against Jiang Yuning’s heart a few times.
Jiang Yuning’s eyes dimmed. He knew that he was not considered normal when compared with other people. However, he was slowly changing himself throughout all the years that he had known Nian Xi. “My phone rang several times last night. I was doing my experiment at the time, and because the call was from an unknown number, I didn’t pick it up.”
“You better store our numbers as soon as possible then,” Luosang replied quickly, out of fear that Nian Junting would continue to lecture Jiang Yuning. “You should also store the contact details of all of Nian Xi’s family members. If not, none of us would be able to reach you. Feng Ji Chuan watched over Nian Xi for the whole of last night. He even bought her fruits, breakfast, and necessities. Sigh.”
Jiang Yuning immediately panicked when he heard what she said. His jet black eyes looked as helpless as a fawn in shock. “Xixi…” he murmured.
“Yeah. I’m hurting and I need to rest.” Nian Xi closed her eyes lazily.
“Alright…” Jiang Yuning nodded his head furiously, before turning to ask the nurse about Nian Xi’s condition.
