The judge nodded and said, “Witness, please answer her question.”
“Yes,” without other choices, Yi Jingxi answered the question. “I did it with proper means though…”
“As a witness, you only need to tell us yes or no,” An Lan interrupted him, “Mr. Yi, have your mother, Chu Lei, and Xu Zhengxuan known each other for a long time?”
Yi Jingxi’s face twitched slightly.
He knew that Nian Junting must have done a background check, and that he would have evidence for this question. So, he responded with, “Yes.”
“Was there a personal issue or love-related problem between your mother and Xu Zhengxuan?”
“I refuse to answer this question. Let me repeat this again. I’m not a suspect. I am a witness. You have no right to question me like that.” Yi Jingxi said.
An Lan smiled, and continued with an aggressive tone. “Your mother was once Xu Zhengxuan’s student. She pursued Xu Zhengxuan. Back then, Mr. Xu was already married…”
“Enough!” Yi Jingxi’s eyes shone fiercely. “For what you’ve said, I can sue you for a personal attack and slandering my mother!”
“Counselor, be aware of your questions,” the judge warned An Lan.
An Lan calmly picked up an SD card from the table, and said, “Judge, I have a recording which is related to the case.”
Yi Jingxi fixed his eyes on the SD card, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
A clerk plugged the SD card into a stereo. Then, Zeng Lijuan’s voice could be heard in court. “What if they found out? This is too risky. Besides, people will hate me if they know the truth.”
“If you have the courage to take the risk, I’ll send you out of the country when it’s done.” Then, a man’s cold, deep but very tempting voice was heard. “You are an orphan, and you’re poor. Even if you work hard enough to finish your studies in college, you may still not be able to live a good life. I’ll give you five million, and complete the migration procedures for you. You’ll be living a comfortable life abroad.”
“But… the judge won’t believe that Principle Xu molested me so easily, right?”
“That, you don’t need to worry about. I’ll arrange everything.”
The recording ended abruptly.
The courtroom stayed silent for a few seconds, and then people started whispering to each other. The jury, the spectators, and the reporters all turned to Yi Jingxi in shock. He had just talked, so they all recognized his voice from the recording.
Yi Jingxi closed his eyes.
His handsome face was tight and otherwise expressionless.
Xu Zhengxuan, who was despondent in the prisoner’s box, suddenly raised his head and stared at Yi Jingxi angrily. “Yi Jingxi, you framed me! Why did you do that to me? I’ve treated you like my own son ever since you got engaged to my daughter.”
Yi Jingxi opened his eyes. He didn’t look at Xu Zhengxuan, but calmly looked at the judge and said, “Judge, they are framing me. I intend to stay silent.”
An Lan smiled faintly, and said, “The recording doesn’t lie. The technicians can easily find out if it’s fake. Judge, on behalf of my client, I want to accuse Yi Jingxi of falsely accusing Mr. Xu of indecency and illegally occupying the Xu Family property two years ago.”
The judge frowned and talked with the jurors for a while, saying, “there is a change in the case. The trial will be postponed to a week from now. Mr. Yi, by then, you will be the defendant…”
After the trial, reporters surrounded Yi Jingxi.
“Mr. Yi, do you hate Xu Zhengxuan because he abandoned your mother? Is that why you framed him?”
