Chapter 18: First Meeting of Harry Potter

The Harry Potter and Ron Weasley in the original works work differently when it came to schooling. In the field of magic (At least for right now), Charles could be said to be completely dedicated to academics. Combined with his similar background, he and Hermione had quickly hit it off.

In truth, a bookworm in academics was generally seen as a crazy fanatic in the eyes of many, and for good reason at times. The way the two academics talked, we can say we know very little about them and how they worked.

“What do you think about the Goblin Rebellion?” Hermione asked.

“The Goblin Rebellion, that was caused due to the discrimination from the other races and started to throw off that discrimination. It was an important factor in the industries…(1000 words have omitted)

“My opinion differs from yours, you see…”

Whatever! I don’t understand the world of bookworms.

As they talked, the train had already left the port of London and reached the fields where sheeps and goats could be seen.

About 6 hours later, there was a creaking sound within the corridors of the train as a beaming woman with dimples slid open the door, “Would you like anything sweet from the trolley, dearies?” Charles food had been eaten completely long ago during his debate with Hermione, and so he had taken out some money to eat some candies along with Hermione while they talked.

With things being said, Charles was a genius. Originally, he had been a foodie of the highest degree, otherwise, he would never have such a god-given talent at cooking. But while the majority of the food on the trains were snacks that could be found anywhere in the magical world, this was the very first time he had eaten such foods before.

Agh! With all the magic researching and working as a chef for Julie, I’ve completely forgotten about eating all the snacks in the world. What a loss! This is the greatest humiliation for a foodie!

And so, Charles ripped open a pack of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. I must eat all the good food within the wizarding world! He had thought. Afterwards, he threw a single red bean within his mouth and began to chew.

“Mmmmmggghhh!”

Charles’ face grew extremely hot as tears began to leak out. Fuck! It was a Mexican Chili Pepper!

Hermione had laughed in delight from his pain from that. Afterwards, their lunch had been finished. Then, they had both took turns leaving the compartment to allow the other to change into their robes. Just as they finished, the round-faced Neville came walking in with teary eyes.

Seeing Hannah’s future husband act in such a way despite knowing that he would future mature, Charles couldn’t help but offer Hannah a silent tribute in her memory.

“Sorry,” he spoke, “but have you seen a toad at all?” Hermione and Charles shook their heads, causing him to cry. “I’ve lost him! He keeps getting away from me!”

Thus, Charles gave Hannah another moment of silence again.

“We’ll definitely help you find him!” Like in the original works, Hermione had stood up. Realizing that he would meet Harry Potter like this, Charles had hurriedly promised to help.

And so, the group began to go through the compartments one by one to ask.

Just as Neville opened one of the compartments, Charles saw a single red-haired boy staring at a spectacle-wearing boy as they tried to change the color of a rat.

This was Harry Potter and Ron Weasley and the start of their friendship.

The red-haired boy held a shabby looking wand with its magic core sticking out already. In his other hand, a large rat could be seen as he started to mutter, “Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow.”

He waved his wand to no effect. The rat remained the same gray color while it slept.

“Are you sure that’s really a spell? Hermione looked down from the side. “Well, it’s not very good, is it? I’ve tried a few simple spells just for practice, and its all worked for me. Nobody in my family’s magic at all, It was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it’s the very best school of witchcraft there is, I’ve heard — I’ve learnt all our set books off by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough — I’m Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?’

“What lungs you have.” Charles ridiculed from the side. Having Hermione shoot a baleful look at him, Charles immediately shut up.

“I’m Ron Weasley.” Ron muttered.

“Harry Potter.” Harry said.

“Are you really?” Hermione was startled. “I know all about you. Of course — I know all about you, of course – I got a few extra books for background reading, and you’re in Modern Magical HistoryThe Rise and Fall of the Dark Artsand Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century.”

“Am I?” said Harry, a little dazed.

“Goodness, you didn’t know. I’d have found out everything I could if it was me.” Hermione had utterly ignored her all-powerful voice and continued, “Do either of you know what house you’ll be in? I’ve been asking around, and I hope I’m Gryffindor, it sounds by far the best; I hear Dumbledore himself was in it. but I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn’t be too bad…. Anyway, we’d better go and look for Neville’s toad. You two had better change, you know, I expect we’ll be there soon.” And so the group of three continued to the next compartment.

Neville’s toad was not too easy to find, and Charles didn’t know just what on earth the Longbottom family was thinking about, buying an invisible type of housepet for him. In the end, Charles was forced to secretly use an echolocation type of soundwave spell, only to discover the toad right on top of a table in an invisible state.

But there had been a price to pay that was quite unbearable. The witch inside the compartment had found Charles to be clumsy and had given him an earful on his conduct.

“We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes’ time. Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately.” A voice echoed through the train.

Charles’ stomach lurched with nerves, but because of his Occlumency training, he was able to easily rein in his emotions. But he could see Neville’s round face white and even Hermione started to shake a little.

“Which house do you reckon you’ll be sorted into?” Charles tried to scatter his mind with a simple question.

“I hope to be in Gryffindor, but I’ll probably end up in Hufflepuff because I’m an idiot!” Neville spoke anxiously.

“I hope to be in Gryffindor, but Ravenclaw wouldn’t be too bad.” Hermione followed up.

“I plan to be in Gryffindor, I’m sure Neville and you will be sorted into Gryffindor.”

As Charles finished speaking, the train began to slow down. Finishing off the remainder of their sweets, they began to follow the rest of the people down the corridors.

“Hogwarts Station, please disembark from the train.”

The train continued to slow down before finally coming to a stop. Like tourists, they pushed and shoved their way onto the black platform. The chilly night air had caused Charles to shudder slightly. A single lamp could be seen over the heads of the students as a single coarse voice called out, “Firs’ years! Firs’ years over here! Alright there, Harry?”

Towering over the heads of the sea of students, a tall and lofty man could be seen smiling. This was the groundskeeper and keeper of keys of Hogwarts, Hagrid!

“C’mon, follow me — any more firs’ years? Mind yer step, now! Firs’ years follow me!” Everyone followed Hagrid down a steep and narrow path while slippering and stumbling every so often. It was quite dark on both sides of the road and no one could be heard aside from Neville’s sniffing once or twice.

“Ye’ all get yer firs’ sight o’ Hogwarts in a sec,” Hagrid called over his shoulder, “jus’ round this bend here.”

There was a loud “Ooooh!” as the narrow path suddenly opened up to the edge of a giant black lake. A tall and majestic looking castle could be seen on the mountains on the other side of the lake. And built in the majestic castle, many different sparkling windows could be seen.
