Chapter 18

Though I can’t tell what it is, I think what I heard was a large animal. The emotions heard in the cry were anger, fear, and hatred.

A black, abominable light spread out from the direction of the light. That had to be magic. If so, Foruna should be there.

I run. There was no way of knowing what lay ahead but I was not worried as I knew Foruna was there. While running, an inconspicuous plat ripped open my skin, yet strangely I felt no pain.

The black light gradually turns white. At the same time the power of light is growing weaker, or perhaps just smaller. The beast’s voice has not heard since then. I do not know what is happening to Foruna, but I want to get there sooner just in case.

[Foru…na….]

Even if a tragedy awaited.

[Al! Why are you here!?]

Foruna looks like he moves in slow motion as he comes over. A reddish black liquid was scattered around the Foruna, and when I looked at the thing that was dispersed everywhere, it turned out to be a “human being.” At the far end, an animal like a giant wolf, who will be the main scream I heard a little while ago,has it’s white fur colored a dripping crimson.

The things I ate that evening started coming up. My stomach twitched and cramped until I could not stand it and I spat out my gastric juice.

When I calmed down, the area was shining  with the morning sun’s first rays. As in contrast with before, when it was so dark there were many places I could not see well, I was now able to notice something. The head of the white beast was cut off and the lumps of flesh strewn about were the hands and feet of humans. The body which was now only a head had its eyes wide, expression unchanged. Foruna who realized that I was looking at them exercised magic with one hand while stroking my back and everything was erased. Yes,everything.

There was nothing there. All the blood from human beings and the beast that became a lump of flesh flowed away. What was left was simply forest.

I cling to the black cloak of Foruna. I had wanted to do this, but before now that was not possible. I wanted to feel the warmth of a living human being.

[Al, Al, I’m sorry…I’m sorry.]

Foruna kept apologizing to me.  I came arbitrarily so I am the bad one. Like this, Foruna can’t be the only one.

[I’m sorry, I’m sorry.]

Foruna and I repeatedly apologized to each other just like that. I wrapped both of my trembling hands around the waist of the Foruna and let my face rub against his chest. Even if I saw the scourge that Foruna caused, I could not dislike him. It is not possible to dislike him.

In the end we were both clinging to each other until the sun rose right above us. I chose to believe that our normal days will return again when tomorrow comes.
