The skeleton town

2

There, is a rustic castle.

That castle is surrounded by 10-meter castle walls and pits, but there is almost no water

It seems that it has not rained for quite a while.

Come to think of it, the square was also full of dust.

I’m pretty sure that this is probably a land that has a low amount of rainfall.

The shape of the area of the castle seems to be a square.

There are towers made at each corner.

And there are tower walls between the towers, with soldiers observing from above.

There are two skeletons standing in front of the drawbridge.

“H-Hii!! Skeleton again!!”

Souichirou grabs onto Hiroto.

Hiroto just smiled.

Souichirou was a scaredy cat since elementary school.

“It’s not like they’re going to attack you know.”

“B-But, a monster like thatーー”

Hiroto and the others passed through the drawbridge, walking with their backs to the skeleton soldiers.

There were fields immediately after they passed through the bridge, but the land was dry.

(Since its dry means, it hasn’t rained for quite a while)

Hiroto thought.

(Or is it that, it’s a land that originally doesn’t have that much rainfall? If there is a decent amount of rainfall, there should be a lot of produce, and with just that, there would be money entering, so if that were the case, that trading house wouldn’t be so worn down)

The reason that the town seems so rustic, is probably because of the low crop yield.

There is no doubt that there is a lot of amount of rainfall.

After passing by the main, square-shaped tower to the back, a rectangular residence castle and stable can be seen.

The skeleton stopped his horse and jumped to the ground.

Souichirou’s face got closer.

“If they’re saying we’ll become soldiers, will we be put under that monster?”

He whispered.

“Being the night guard is a test of courage then.”

“Is this the time for jokes?”

The skeleton entered the castle and the knights behind Hiroto poked them to move forward.

They passed through a narrow entrance.

It was dark inside the palace.

A part of the wall is illuminated by the light from the small windows.

After passing through the bare-rocked path, they climbed up the stairs.

There, was a huge hall.

There were at least 80 square meters of area.

Beast hides were placed on the ground.

There is no carpet.

There was tapestry, and in front of it was a long chair.

The person sitting there was a man whose health does not seem to be very good.

He has a narrow and long face, and a sharp nose just like the edge of an arrow.

His lips were thin.

Standing beside him is a fat skinhead.

His face looked like eyes and noses were written on a horizontal, big, and shiny stone.

He is wearing a loose gown with a cord tightened around his waist.

(The unhealthy looking one is probably the Lord)

Hiroto thought.

There was no way that the lord would be standing.

The Lord should be the one sitting.

That skinhead is probably his subordinate.

On the side of the unhealthy looking guy, there is a plump cheeked woman.

Her waist and butt show proof of wealth.

Is she……the man’s wife?

But from how they look, there’s some difference with their age.

(A courtesan……?)

The two men were whispering to each other.

“The Lord of Lusa Castle had sent gifts to elf children when he had visited the Church of Spirits affiliated school, and was able to gain connections with the elves. During the inspection in four days from now, I insistーー”

The skinhead spoke of a name of a castle that Hiroto and Souichirou did not know.

“Would there really be results with such thing?”

“Yes. Also, about the plan for preferential treatment for elves that I have mentioned many times beforeーー”

“But, giving them a prime location……”

The skeleton puts his heels together.

‘I have brought them.’, he reported.

The fat skinhead looked at Hiroto and Souichirou and said.

“Carabera. Where is the Difrente?”

“The two over there.”

The skeleton answered.

“Those brats?”

The skinhead raised his voice and the sitting man shook his head.

“I thought that they would be of some help, but to think that they are branch-like brats. What a waste it has been, Centerio.”

“Vulcan-sama, let us summon once again.”

“Are you telling me to pay the priest? Have you forgotten that the visitors are coming tomorrow?”

The sitting man turned his sleepy face.

“If not, then to the Moor’s fortress.”

“Will they be of use there?”

“If as sacrifices, perhapsーー”

Souichirou trembled to the skinhead’s words.

“Are you planning to use us as sacrifices?!”

The skinhead turned his head annoyingly.

“We shall make you our soldiers.”

“Don’t make us soldiers without permission! Return us to our previous world!”

The skinhead gestured to the knight with his jaw after hearing Souichirou’s shout.

The knight approached Souichirou and suddenly sent a fist to his stomach.

Souichirou crouched down.

He fell to his knees and coughed profusely.

Hiroto wrinkled his eyebrows.

He thought that Souichirou had some faults because he shouted without thinking of the consequence, but he thought that the one who made him feel pain was worse.

And when he thought of saying just some words,

“You are in the presence of the Vulcan-sama, the lord of the castle, and his butler, Centerio-sama. Be careful with your words.”

The knight ordered and went back to where he was standing.

It was just as Hiroto had guessed.

The man sitting is the lord, and the skinhead is his butlerーーmeaning, he is the number two who takes care of miscellaneous work in the Lord’s stead.

Souichirou pitifully stood.

“Damn you……resulting to violence……”

He muttered with a very low voice.

Speech is silver; silence is golden.

But, there are times when things must be said.

There is no doubt that the other party is looking down on Hiroto and Souichirou.

Hiroto faced the Lord and his butler.

“I don’t think that you can gain anything from hitting Souichirou?”

“Do you wish to get hit as well?”

Centerio glared.

“Since you took the trouble to summon someone from a different world, you need some help, right? You won’t get cooperation if you hit the person you called for help.”

“Between us, whose standing is higher?”

“Right now, you guys. But, in the future, we will be.”

Hiroto showed an innocent smile.

Centerio opened his mouth, and dropped his jaws.

It looks like he was dumbstruck.

But, that is what I am aiming for.

Hiroto returned to a serious face.

“What’s the reason you’ve called us?”

And asked straightforwardly.

He took notice of the other party’s expression.

“We will send you to a place far away.”

“You aren’t talking about the underworld right?”

“It might be near there.”

Centerio showed a nasty smile.

(What’s their intention?)

‘Probably……’, Hiroto answered to himself.

It is a man who gives violence to the person he summoned.

I’m pretty sure that he’s going to send us someplace good.

“We order you to subjugate vampires.”

Souichirou froze beside Hiroto.

It was expected that it wouldn’t be anything good, but vampires were unexpected.

“Vampires? You mean, that vampire?”

Hiroto confirmed.

“The vampire clan frequently appears around here. Recently, in Moor Village, people had died with their blood sucked out.”

“Y-You meant that by sacrifice……?!”

Souichirou trembled.

Centerio widened his eyes as if to say ‘hm? what? you scared now?’.

Hiroto scratched his head.

“If we defeat them, will you give us rewards?”

“What?!”

Centerio’s tone raised by one octave.

“Of course, since we’re going to do a dangerous mission, you took your trouble to call us from a different world too, if so, I really want some delicious rewards.”

“What a cheeky brat.”

Centerio glared at Hiroto.

Hiroto just smiled.

“Will you sent us back to our world?”

“We will return you someday.”

“When’s someday?”

Hiroto quickly retorted noticing that the skinhead tried to make a vague promise.

“If you defeat them, I shall introduce you to the Great Priest.”

“Then, write a letter of introduction now. Just go and destroy it if we fail. Then, if we succeed, give it to us immediately.”

“Let’s talk after you defeat them.”

“Then, add another condition of letting us stay in the castle once we defeat them.”

“What?”

“It’s fine defeating them and all, but if we were just left alone in the fortress, we won’t be able to return home.”

“Are you saying you cannot trust us?”

“Well, I think that those people who trust people they don’t know, are the ones who can’t be trusted.”

The two of them glared at each other.

Centerio looked at the castle lord.

“How do you wish it done?”

“Write it for them.”

“About letting them stay in the castleーー”

“Add that as well.”

Centerio looked at Hiroto annoyingly.

“What’s your name.”

3

After the two Difrentes left with the guard soldiers, Centerio looked at the castle lord, Vulcan.

“Is it alright?”

“They’re dead either ways.”

“It would have been for the best, if a more decent helper has arrived……”

“Things won’t go with our plans.”

Centerio sighed.

Petitions about asking help to do something about the vampire clan has been sent from the village many times.

Honestly, it was annoying more than everything.

However, the castle does not have the leeway to send soldiers.

Difrentes were summoned, thinking that they would be of some help, butーー.

“One of them seemed a little brave.”

“Are you speaking of that cheeky one?”

Centerio asked back.

“It will be interesting if he comes back alive.”

“It is impossible.”

“Yes, it is probably impossible.”

It looks like Vulcan does not seriously think that they can return alive.

Honestly, humans cannot win against the vampire clan with a one on one bout.

They can fly to the sky.

They can easily flee if they wish to do so.

Even if arrows were sent, they can easily evade.

That is already speaking about trained soldiers.

Difrenteーーif it is those people from a different world, the more it is.

Unlike the people of this world, they had not even held a sword.

They will only become sacrifices if they were sent against the vampire clan.

“How is the preparation for tomorrow?”

Vulcan asked.

“Of course, the preparations are going very wellーー”

“It all depends on tomorrow to make this town grow. Whatever it takes, we must call elves to this townーー”
