SS 4: Attract Attention Mission

Chapter 1

Sunday, July 22, shortly before the Tournament of nine schools in 2096.

The Kuroba twins, brother and sister Fumiya and Ayako visited the main house of the Yotsub family.

The purpose of the visit was Maye's report on the results of an investigation into the development of magic weapons secretly conducted by the Kudo family. Fumiya was not directly involved in this investigation, but he accompanied Ayako here as the representative of his father Mitsugu, who was now busy on another mission.

Maya seemed pleased with Ayako's report. She thanked for the work, asked to feel at home, and with a relaxed expression on her face (not in the sense that she had not had time to relax before, but in the sense that she had no work now), invited the two to drink tea with cakes.

In ancient times, the ruler could offer vassal poisoned tea to evaluate his devotion, whether he would drink it or not. However, Maya did not do such meaningless things, and Fumiya and Ayako did not even think about worrying about this. The reason the two hesitated slightly before reaching out and taking the cakes was because they were embarrassed by the fact that Maya personally recommended trying it.

And yet, Fumiya and Ayako were far from a condition that can be called relaxed. It cannot be said that while observing this innocent look of these two, Maya did not want to play a trick on them.

- By the way, is it soon the Tournament of nine schools?

- Yes. - Fumiya answered in a tense voice to Maya's question. No, rather not tense, but wary.

“You two will be participating in this nine-school tournament?”

- Yes, both.

Ayako turned to Maya "both-sama" (aunt), because Maya herself said so to call her. The twin father, Kuroba Mitsugu, was Maya’s younger cousin, so, from Ayako’s point of view, Maya was not her “aunt” in the correct sense of the word. Communicating with other people, Ayako preferred to use the "head-sama" or "Maya-sama."

And Maya did not make a requirement to Fumiya "call me aunts." However, given that he called her "aunts" during his (female) dressing, then perhaps he does this because he believes that the girl should say "all-in-one."

- We are both taken by the participants to the newcomers division.

Of the two of them, Ayako was more used to this treatment, and did not feel embarrassed about it.

- To the newcomers division? And I thought that with your abilities you will end up in the official division ...

Fumiya and Ayako easily understood the words unsaid by Maya: "especially in the Fourth School."

“But will it not attract too much attention if we play in the official division?”

- You thought so, therefore, asked to put you on the performance in the division of beginners ...

In other words, the Fourth School was of the opinion that these two should be used in the official division. They probably had to use some tricks from their arsenal to avoid this. It was in the style of the children of the Kuroba family, specializing in espionage.

- We did not overdo it? - Maya Fumiya asked fearfully. Ayako stiffened beside him.

- No, that was not superfluous ...

Maya assumed a thoughtful look. Fumia and Ayako, holding their breath, waited for her words to continue.

- Okay. I am not against your performance in the newcomers division.

The twins stretched out like a charm and froze in that position. These two could not behave like Tatsuya: refuse Maya's orders, relaxed back in the chair.

“Fumiya-san, Ayako-san, don't look for workarounds in the Nine School Tournament.” Show all your strength.

Both Fumiya and Ayako intended to instantly respond to the order of Maya "obey."

But in reality it turned out differently.

- AND? Yes. - So Fumiya reacted.

- Good. ... But doesn't that get too much attention?

Ayako took it a lot easier than Fumiya. But she managed to ask a dodgy question. And this was due to loyalty to the head of the Yotsuba family, which her father Mitsugu instilled in her. Engaged in secret activities, the Kuroba family sank deeper into darkness than anyone else in Yotsub.

They were darkness among darkness. Such activity was always illegal, so betrayal on their part was absolutely unacceptable. Of course, taking into account the situation of these two, the principle of absolute "obedience to the head of the family" was instilled in them.

With such a vaccinated obedience, a counter clarifying question was asked because this order was rather unexpected.

“That's right, Ayako-san.” If you take it seriously, you can get public attention no worse than Miyuki-san and Tatsuya-san did last year.

- Head-sama, then this is our goal ...?

“Yes, you're right, Fumiya-san.” - With a grin Maya answered Fumiya's question.

- This year, the youngest daughters of the Saegus family will also appear in the newcomers' division, and the eldest son of the Shippo family will desperately seek to show themselves. If at the same time you show brilliant success, hinting at your connection with the Yotsub family, then perhaps this will distract the views of others gathered on Miyuki-san and Tatsue-san?

After such an explanation, they finally were able to understand the purpose of Maya.

- I understood the idea.

True, understanding and agreement are two different things.

“But will it not create difficulties in carrying out our work in the future?”

From the usual point of view, Ayako’s argument was fair. There was no need to flaunt the faces of secret agents.

“You needn't worry about that.”

However, Maya rejected Ayako's argument, not disclosing her intentions.

- Now think only about how to stand out as much as possible at the Tournament of nine schools. I will also look forward to it.

- Yes, we will do our best.

“We will try to live up to your expectations.”

Fumiya and Ayako, without even looking at each other, came to the same conclusion and agreed with the order of Maya.

◊ ◊ ◊

After waiting for Fumiya and Ayako to leave, Maya picked up a bell from the table and rang it.

The sound of knocking on the door immediately followed, because the person called by the ringing of the bell was in the next room.

- Come in.

- I apologize.

Butler Hayama followed Maya's instructions and opened the door.

“Hayama-san, you are quick as always.” Please contact Mitsugu-san.

- I'm listening. Is this about the case that you are currently doing?

- Yes, that's right. ... Ah, wait a bit.

Maya stopped Hayama, who had already bowed and was about to leave.

- I, nevertheless, will talk myself. Connect me with him.

- Yes Milady.

Hayama went to the old voice telephone set in the corner of the room and dialed Mitsugu's number.

Answered the call quickly. Even Kuroba Mitsugu couldn't just ignore the phone call that came from Maya's personal number.

Hayama exchanged brief greetings with Mitsugu and respectfully handed the receiver to Maya. ... Despite its antique design, it was a cordless handset.

Maya picked up the phone and said “hello” into it, and in response from the speaker a harmonious clear voice was heard.

“Oh, my beautiful cousin-dono.” Did my children do something?

- No, they do their job well.

- Here is how? It's fine! In that case, what commission do you puzzle me with today?

- Before that, Mitsugu-san. After all, do we rarely communicate via video?

- I sincerely regret this. I am very sorry that I can not see the beauty of the cousin-dono, like a blossoming flower under the light of the moon. So, is there any work for me?

- Mitsugu-san. It is painful for me to say this, but you are only right in your last sentence.

- This is very cruel. So, what kind of work did you want to transfer over the telephone?

Mitsugu finally spoke in an ordinary working voice, but Maya herself had intended to change the subject.

- This is about your children.

It was some time before Mitsugu answered.

- ...I understood. I will give orders now.

This hitch talked about what Mitsugu had in mind.

- Mitsugu-san. I understand your discontent, but I think that this business will be beneficial for your children.

“I'm not dissatisfied, but can I find out what is the benefit?”

Such hints of disobedience were unusual for Kuroba Mitsugu. At least there was no such resistance from him that would show his dissatisfaction that Fumiya and Ayako were ahead of him in success in their “work”. However, given the sake of whom it was all done, he simply could not obediently accept it.

- I consider the use of your children in espionage activities to be wasteful.

- Waste?

- Fumiya-san's magic can neutralize an adversary without a single wound. Ayako-san with his magic can make almost completely invisible not only to herself, but also to allies. Does it not seem to you a waste that they will be just some kind of secret agents?

- I believe that the magic of these two is designed specifically for intelligence ...

- Here is how? Well, I, as the head of the family, just wanted more for them ...

Mitsugu did not answer this at all. He could not say anything against the authority of the head of the family.

- The case that I want to entrust you this time is also connected with this. I am counting on you, even though I see that you are unhappy.

“This is by no means discontent.” I will give the necessary orders, following your order.

“I'm counting on you, Mitsugu-san.”

Satisfied with Mitsugu's answer, Maya handed the phone to Hayama.

- Hayama-san.

- Yes Milady?

Hayama returned the receiver to the telephone and stood in front of Maya.

- Regarding the issue of Fumiya-san and Ayako-san. Mitsugu-san, although it shows agreement, but his true feelings are the opposite.

- You want to say that there is a possibility of sabotage?

Maya grinned at Hayama's question.

- I do not think that it will come to betrayal, but it may well reach the completion of work through the arms. Therefore, Hayama-san, I ask you to check how the spread of rumors goes.

“Do you want me to organize the monitoring of Kuroba-dono’s work?”

- Yes. Keep an eye on the speed of rumor penetration, and let me know if they will not spread as planned.

- I'm listening.

Hayama bowed courteously. But on this he did not finish talking.

“But madam, Kuroba-sama’s concern is quite natural.”

Maya frowned at the sudden utterance of Hayama.

“Mitsugu-san's concern ...?” What is interesting about?

Maya is not crazy. She really had no idea about it.

“If you spread the rumor that people with the surname Kuroba are relatives of the Yotsub family, this could become a hindrance to Kuroba-sama’s activities in the future.” Because Kuroba-sama in many cases presented himself by his real name.

Hayama expressed his thoughts in the form of his personal concern, and not just repeated these already known facts.

- Ah, you are talking about that.

An understanding appeared on Maya's face.

“It is true that it will be a little more difficult for him to conduct his business.” But this is all within the limits of calculations.

But it was an expression of the understanding that these words of Hayama were within expectations.

- That is, to strengthen the containment of Kuroba-sama’s activity is also your goal?

“Because I don't like the fact that I often have to rely on Mitsugu-san and his people lately.” If we don’t give work to people from other side branches, then their real business skills will dull, right?

Hayama bowed to Maya, agreeing that it was undesirable to rely solely on the Kuroba family in terms of balance of power.

◊ ◊ ◊

On the same day that Ayako and Fumiya returned home from Yotsuba's main house, after dinner, they gathered in Fumiya's room for a brainstorming session.

- Still, "Direct Pain" does not fit.

- And if it is well camouflaged as Phantom Strike?

The topic of their discussion was "how much of one’s strength can one show?"

Although Fumiya and Ayako were instructed by Maya to "show all their strength," they received no specific meanings. As they understood, to show all the power - this does not mean to demonstrate everything that they can.

In places like the Tournament of Nine Schools, which have a lot of strangers' views, most wizards prefer not to show magic, which is their trump card, not to mention being a military secret and therefore forbidden to use spells such as Tatsui's “Fog Dispel”. "Trumps" are always kept for emergency situations, so they are called "trumps".

For example, Jumonji Katsuto never showed the “Attacking Version of the Phalanx” in the Nine Schools Tournament.

Saegusa Mayumi did not show her "Dry Meteor", causing the enemy to suffocate, Watanabe Mari did not show her "Hashikiri", not to mention the "Dojikiri".

Although, unlike Katsuto, Mayumi and Mari, due to the nature of the competitions in which they participated, it was not possible to use this magic. But even if the girls had some kind of competition, similar to the Monolith Code of guys, they still would not use the “Dry Meteor” and “Dojikiri” there. Because magic is something that is used not only in competitions.

- One “Phantom strike” will not be enough for a good performance? Maya-sama wants an eye-catching activity, so why not disguise Direct Pain with a Phantom Strike, that is, use both spells, cleverly intertwining them with each other?

"Direct pain" is the unique magic of Fumiya. This non-systemic magic of psychic intervention, directly causing pain in the opponent’s mind, really looks very similar to “Phantom Strike”, because outwardly it seems that a psionic wave is created, causing a “blow” or you can even say a “shot”. “Direct pain” will cause the target of the attack to feel the pain directly in their mind, while everyone will think that the target of the attack has received damage from the “Phantom strike”. Their system is completely different, but they are the same in terms of the presence of pain caused by phenomena applied to the physical body.

- Right...

“Then, Fumiya, you need to train in the continuous activation of Phantom Strike.”

Fumiya sighed when she heard what Ayako said.

- I'm not very good at unsystematic magic ...

“Don't belittle yourself.”

Ayako clapped her younger brother on the back.

Fumiya burst out a faint moan.

Although the blow was not strong in appearance, it seems that in fact a decent amount of force was invested in it.

“You are well, you have the magic to use.” But I don’t know what to use for me to like this chapter-sama.

With other people, Ayako used the elegant option of constructing first-person phrases using "watakushi", but she used the usual "watashi *" with her family. And now, expressing her complaint, she looked like an ordinary girl.

[Variants of the Japanese pronoun "I"]

- In the Tournament of nine schools, there is no place to apply Lubrication, and Teleportation is prohibited by the rules ...

Ayako's complaints were very convincing, and Fumiya did not know what to answer. As his sister said, “Absolute Lubrication” at the Nine School Tournament was nowhere to apply. The Absolute Lubrication magic (or AC for short) lubricates the gas, liquid, and physical distribution of energy in the target area in such a way that it is impossible to recognize anything within this area. The main application of this magic is to exclude recognition of emitted sounds and reflected light from itself or from its allies. In other words, it is a concealment of activity. This could be used on the Monolith Code, however, the Monolith Code is an exclusively male competition. In addition, “it is possible to use” and “can be used” are different concepts.

Another magic that Ayako possessed perfectly, “Teleportation”, or more precisely, “Pseudo-teleportation”, could not be used in the Tournament of nine schools. This was forbidden by the rules. Pseudo-teleportation is magic that covers a user or his ally with an air cocoon, neutralizes inertia, and instantly moves this cocoon through a vacuum tube created in the air. If you can use it somewhere, then only in the "Illusory Stars", but the vacuum tube is considered an obstacle for other players, for which you can get a disqualification.

- Right!

Fumi's something came to mind, and he punched in the palm of his hand.

- The rules prohibit only the creation of a vacuum pipe. And if you jump, "lubricating" the air in the direction of motion, then this will not be a violation of the rules.

Hearing Fumia’s idea, Ayako frowned.

- Fumiya ... In Pseudo-Teleportation, the creation of a vacuum tube is used, because this magic remains easy even with the built-in additional process. Firstly, “blurring” is the magic of equalizing distributions. It will not work if the air pressure on the cocoon in which the user is located does not increase during movement. And it will not change, because with a normal jump you simply repel air.

“So it's even better, isn't it?”

However, Fumiya was embraced by his idea, and did not attach importance to Ayako's complaints.

- This will undoubtedly attract attention if you show your strength without using unique magic!

- Maybe this is so, but ... I'm good at Teleportation, but I'm not very good at jumping.

- Everything is fine. The vacuum pipe resets the air resistance, but there is still inertia. Teleportation is magic, the key to this is the quick synchronization of motion magic and inertia neutralization magic. Even with air resistance, there are no high school students who can move as fast as you, nee-san. Even Miyuki-san won’t.

Ayako raised her eyebrows sharply. From the words that Miyuki wouldn’t be able to, she woke up the spirit of competition.

Fumiya did not plan this, but as a result, he picked up the most effective argument that strongly motivated Ayako.

- That's right ... Your words make sense. I think I should try.

Ayako should not have had such a simple character.

- Correctly. If it is you, nee-san, then everything will work out.

At that moment, Fumia should have felt that something was wrong with how easily he managed to fool his twin sister, although he did not intentionally.

To achieve results in the Tournament of Nine Schools, the Fourth School, instead of fighting magic, preferred to use complex, technologically intricate magic. The main reason for this was that this school was founded immediately after the Third School. In the Third School, military orders were established, and, unlike the First and Second schools, a strong emphasis was placed on practical magic skills (skills of real combat). Therefore, the Fourth School, founded immediately after the Third, almost automatically received almost the opposite policy.

But this did not mean at all that the students of the Fourth School were inferior to the students of other schools in combat skills. Indeed, there were many students inclined to technological knowledge, but they simply emphasized the importance of the technological aspect of magical science, nothing more.

- Remake Pseudo-teleportation so that it does not violate the rules ...?

- It will be hard?

- No, in short, do you need to reduce air resistance without creating a vacuum pipe? It can be done. - Confidently answered the third grader, to whom Ayako came up with a question about this idea. Although it was impossible to say that he was not just boasting about a beautiful kohai girl, the technological orientation of the Fourth School clearly played a big role, because of which he simply could not say "I can not."

- Oh! As expected from Naruse-senpai.

- A-yeah. Leave it to me.

Even if Ayako circled him around his finger, the pride of a fourth-grade student did not allow him not to accept such a challenge.

Incidentally, this Naruse-senpai, Naruse Harumi, was Shizuku's cousin. Shizuku's mother and aunt Harumi, Kitayama Benio, nee Naruse Benio, were pure fighting wizards, but Harumi himself became a technology-oriented high school student. The students of the Fourth School were also at their best in practical skills, so he will take part in the Tournament of nine schools as a player. However, Harumi himself wanted to participate in the role of an engineer. Perhaps that is why he decided to offer help to the first year student with a redesign of the activation sequence.

It was on Monday, the day after Maya instructed them to the "catch attention" mission. Thus, Ayako provided herself with an "accomplice" for the mission, and Fumiya, alone, by trial and error, was looking for the best option.

By the way, Fumia was a handsome young guy. He was considered a handsome guy of this type, which can be called a “beautiful girl” if you dress him in women's clothing.

He was not tall, and his arms and legs remained thin, despite intense training.

“Kuroba-kun, you can rely more on us, okay?”

“Yes, thank you very much.” I will ask you if something is not clear to me.

- Yeah. Do not be shy, contact, if that, okay?

For high school students, Fumiya looked like a defenseless guy who wanted to be taken care of, and they so showed their desire to "protect" him. They had been pestering him with such offers without stopping for some time.

But this kind of self-love did not make Fumiya happy. He strove to become a reliable and cool man, such as Tatsuya (Fumiya's subjective opinion), and he did not like being a “living talisman”.

Fumiya didn’t have enough childishness to respond firmly to the senpai girls. Although in such matters he was much older than his real age. To the girls who approached him, he answered as politely as possible, clearly and clearly rejecting their offers of help. If he did it rudely, then hostility towards him would spread among the female students. But he politely talked with a smile to every girl who approached him. Such behavior, on the contrary, gave him a favorable impression of an “unexpectedly courageous” guy.

Although there was no direct connection with the mission, both Fumiya and Ayako step by step increased their “degree of visibility” in the Fourth School.

◊ ◊ ◊

End of July, The Nine School Tournament will begin very soon. Among the wizards living in Tokai (southern Kanto), strange rumors began to spread.

The Yotsub family of the Ten Main Clans. A clan that is considered one of the most influential groups of wizards in Japan. The clan, which is controlled by Yotsuba Maya, one of the strongest sorceresses in the world. However, the location of their base is unknown, and who other than Yotsuba Maya is a member of this group is still a mystery.

But now the members of this organization, once covered in a veil of secrecy, have been identified. More precisely, one surname was discovered, which, apparently, has a kinship with the Yotsub family. According to these rumors, a family with the name "Kuroba" had a consanguineous relationship with Yotsuba.

The surname "Kuroba" was the only information transmitted among people associated with magic. Any full names, location, occupation, marital status, presence of children - such detailed details were unknown. This "news" sparked a lively interest from many people.

“Kuroba-san, is it true that you are from Yotsuba?”

The fact that he himself was able to ask about it indicated that Naruse Harumi was a rather fearless young man (although he didn’t come up himself, but asked during the CAD setup). Since this rumor spread, in the Fourth School, in the presence of Fumiya and Ayako, everyone tried to avoid this topic of conversation as much as possible.

And in such an environment this question was raised. The disciples who worked around them froze and pricked up their ears.

- It is not true.

Ayako answered with a smile in denial to Harumi's question. It was still permissible for her to think that “Kuroba Ayako may be a member of Yotsuba,” but a rumor like “Kuroba Ayako is a member of Yotsuba” was already out of range.

The eavesdropping students returned to working with faces as if they had nothing to do with it. However, Harumi could not finish it with such a short answer.

“You certainly have nothing to do with them?” Your magic, if you look closely, is as good as that of the Ten Main Clans ...

Harumi looked away from the custom CAD, raised his head and looked Ayako directly in the eye.

Ayako also looked into his eyes with a wide smile.

“It is a great honor for me, Naruse-senpai.” I would also like to become a wonderful sorceress, such as Naruse Benio-san, about whom they say that she is comparable in strength to the Ten Main Clans.

Harumi smiled tightly as he heard Ayako's answer spoken in an elegant manner.

“She's Kitayama Benio now.”

Harumi could only answer that.

- So this is how it is? I apologize for being rude.

Ayako’s smile didn’t flinch at all from Harumi’s nit-picking, which can be called childish, even though he was just a schoolboy.

- No. I must apologize for asking strange questions.

Harumi bashfully averted his eyes and turned his eyes back to custom CAD.

Thus, thanks to the skillful actions of Ayako and Fumiya, conversations in the Fourth School that these two are Yotsuba people quickly subsided. However, in the rest of society, rumors that "the Kuroba family are people of the Yotsub family" have continued to spread steadily.

Because of this, the number of people wishing to check whether the rumors are true has increased. The surname “Kuroba” was not very common, but it was not very rare either.

But if you limit the search to the condition "wizard with the surname Kuroba", then the number of such people was very small. If you did not spare the money for a thorough investigation, then all such people could be found. And many believed that information about the Yotsub family was worth the money spent on it.

- Nee-san.

- Yeah ... Today too, huh?

Having finished training for the Tournament of nine schools, Fumiya and Ayako left the school through the main gate, after which they immediately found a tail behind them. This has been repeated for the third day in a row. The day before yesterday they were still nervous because they were being watched, but on the third day their thoughts were only: “what, again?”.

“I wonder who it is today?” Ayako muttered in a dismissive tone.

To which Fumiya answered in a tired voice:

- Maybe this is a journalist? He hides ineptly, and he seems to have no assistants.

They did not have a sense of anxiety, not only because they were already used to it, but also because the level of observer skills was rather low.

- Journalist, mean? So what do we do?

- Nee-san, I would like to say that your prejudices against the media have begun again ... but today I agree with you. Whoever we are, there is no political, economic or cultural interest.

- Isn't he one of those who shout “people have a right to know”? Moreover, he himself does not know whether respectable citizens want to know about us or not.

Continuing in a quiet voice to discuss the unlucky pursuer, they headed for the nearest station. The tail went behind them from the school gates, but there was nothing to be done about it to the station. And when traveling in a train booth, you need to specify the destination, and with such a system you can not chase another booth.

But such underestimation for the two was a bit naive. Both Fumiya and Ayako so underestimated the enthusiasm of this journalist.

When they entered the station, from behind they heard approaching footsteps. The persecutor, who was supposed to secretly follow them, openly went straight to Fumiya and Ayako. The brother and sister at the same time came to the conclusion that it would be troublesome if they were caught up, so they accelerated towards the ticket check counter. However, in front of them, two middle-aged men also began to approach, who by their appearance only confirmed that they were journalists. This was clearly planned, and from the very beginning they were going to arrange an “interview” at the station.

Pupils of the Fourth School, who get to the school by electric booths, always use this station, so it was easy to come up with a good place for an "ambush." And the man chasing them from behind was needed to notify his accomplices if Fumiya and Ayako did not go to the station.

Fumiya and Ayako looked at each other, and suddenly ran in the direction perpendicular to the present. Going in front (possibly), the journalists began to fuss and also ran, but Fumiya and Ayako were faster than them. In addition, the goal toward which the brother and sister were heading was very close. With severe shortness of breath (of course, simulated), Fumiya and Ayako broke into a police booth located at the station.

They were lucky because the booth was not empty. After the introduction of the street camera system, the number of police booths decreased, but there was always such a booth at every station within cities. However, they were often closed while the police were on patrol, but now they are in luck. ... Apparently, the police took into account that in the morning when students go to school, and in the evening from school, problems can arise.

Seeing the white color of the school uniform of the Fourth School, the policeman frowned unknowingly. He had just been appointed to this post in a police booth at a station used by students of the Fourth High School of Magic. Despite the low level of skills, this policeman was a wizard, and also a graduate of the Fourth School. Therefore, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that his kokhays might have some problems with non-wizard citizens.

However, when he saw Fumia's faces and, especially, Ayako, his estrangement was lost. It’s not even worth mentioning why. One can only add that the policeman was a young man.

- Sorry, Sergeant-san!

As Ayako ran up and spoke to him in a helpless voice, an unconditional mental attitude immediately appeared in the young policeman’s mind that "these two are victims here." The use of “sergeant” instead of just “policeman” also left a favorable impression on the fact that she knew his rank.

- What happened?

The young policeman answered in the most friendly voice possible, which was inevitable given Ayako's appearance. Fumiya also supported Ayako acting, several times looking back anxiously.

“Unknown men were chasing us ... and it seemed they were going to surround and catch ...”

At that moment, her eyes were a little watery.

“We cannot use magic at our discretion ... And without magic we ...”

Fumiya continued in a pitiful voice from behind Ayako. Although he was in male form, but according to his subtle body shape, he could be confused with a girl, so his words also had the power of conviction.

- Got it. Leave it to me.

The policeman made a righteous face and left the booth.

Fumiya and Ayako exchanged a quiet glance, after which they looked after the departing policeman.

From outside the booth, you heard the voices of a policeman talking to (possibly) journalists. (Possibly) reporters constantly shouted out phrases like “freedom of the press”, losing sight of the fact that Fumiya and Ayako, albeit wizards, were minors. In addition, all three journalists were middle-aged men, and Fumiya and Ayako are handsome young men and women. Also, voices of accusing (possibly) journalists of passers-by were heard who saw their brother and sister running from them to a police booth. They actively invited the policeman to take “testimony from them”.

(Possibly) the journalists, finally realizing that they were at a disadvantage, began to apologize and bow, and retreated to the ticket check counter.
