Chapter 3: Blessing Activated!

Sensing the danger behind him, the vampire turned around and forcefully swatted the incoming cleaver with his palm. The cleaver was instantly deflected and lodged itself into a wall a distance away. The impact of the vampire’s palm caused the cleaver to penetrate several inches of the wall with the remaining half of the cleaver body shaking from the sheer force.

The vampire gazed coldly at Lin Huang as it stopped momentarily, a murderous aura radiating off the monster.

Seeing that the cleaver failed at eliciting a counterattack from the creature, Lin Huang gulped down his saliva as he steeled himself for his next action.

“ YOLO!”

Lin Huang cried out in a low voice as he hurled a second cleaver at the vampire.( He wanted to provoke the vampire further in hopes that it will divert its attention to him instead of his sister.)

His effort finally paid off as the vampire became thoroughly enraged by his attacks. A metallic sound echoed in the hallway as the cleaver was once again deflected by the vampire’s palm.  As if in response to the vampire’s rage, Blood Energy started seeping out from its body.

The blood energy dispersed out from its body like a bloody mist and rapidly enveloped the vampire. Its originally burly statue was further enhanced by this Blood Art, growing significantly larger.

Lin Huang’s breath grew heavier. This was the first encounter with a vampire’s Blood Arts. A Blood Enhanced vampire’s prowess vastly eclipsed a human’s limits and was without a doubt a monstrosity. Lin Huang’s heart sank as the gravity of the situation bore down upon him.

However, the next scene caused his heart to hit rock bottom…

Wings...

Blood Energy shot out from the vampire’s back and coalesced into a pair of wraithlike wings that expanded rapidly, finally stopping after the wings spanned two metres on both sides.

“Fuck! This isn’t a BlackIron monster but a BlueCopper ranked monster!”

Lin Huang distinctly recalled that BlackIron Vampires were only able to manifest one Blood Art at a one time. Only BlueCopper Vampires were able to manifest two Blood Arts concurrently.

His face blanched as the monster’s rank dawned upon him. He did not expect the monster which invaded his home to be a mighty BlueCopper vampire. Compared to his measly prowess, it was at least a hundred times stronger than him. BlueCopper vampires were nearly impervious to normal firearms.

“ Wait… If this is vampire is a BlueCoppervampire, that lamp’s explosion shouldn’t have affected it that much. It wouldn’t have let of its prey due to such a low level of damage.” This glaring incongruence dawned upon him, as his previous encounter with the vampire unfolded in his mind.

He focused his attention on the vampire and noticed two conspicuous wounds on its body.  One was a bone-deep wound on its right shoulder blade while the other was on its left chest. The wound penetrated its entire chest cavity and was situated a mere 2 cm away from its heart. Both of its wounds were rotting and judging from the rot, it started rotting over an hour ago.

Theses wounds went unnoticed by Lin Huang as previously only a portion of the vampire could be seen in the room. Furthermore, the vampire was covered in blood and with Lin Huang’s focus being directed at escaping, these wounds naturally went unnoticed. The mystery behind this monster’s strength was finally unravelled. This was a BlueCopper vampire that barely had the combat strength of a BlackIron vampire.

He should be severely weakened right now. By the looks of it, his heart had been infected with Blood Suppression Toxin. No wonder its combat strength is so low. It shouldn’t last past 3 hours. As long as I maintain a safe distance and evade his two Blood Arts, I should be safe!

Lin Huang finally calmed down as he resolved himself ------ This is a battle of endurance! (DT : Drag him to death! Aka drag out a fight . FYI)

The vampire stared furiously at Lin Huang. The wings on its back elongated itself into a couple of spike-covered columns and lashed out at him.

However, Lin Huang was ready for its attack. He turned and dodged a few steps to the right before swiftly jumping onto the dinner table a few metres away.

Seeing that its initial attack failed, the vampire transformed his wings into a long whip and struck at Lin Huang in a wide arc. The furniture that got in the whip’s way were quickly smashed into pieces as the whip unerringly made its way towards Lin Huang.

Judging by the strength of the whip, a single strike would have shattered Lin Huang’s body.

Lin Huang once again leaped into the air and grabbed onto the flooring of the 2nd storey. With one swift motion, he somersaulted over the railing and onto the 2nd floor. In the meantime, the dinner table he perched on was instantly reduced to wood chips by the blood whip.

However, Lin Huang did not attempt to escape. He was worried that the monster would turn its attention back to Lin Xin if he ran too far away. Spotting a flower vase near him, he tossed it at the vampire below him.

“Pa !”

With a loud crack, the flower vase was instantly shattered by the vampire’s wings. Realizing that the range of its Blood Wings weren’t able to hit Lin Huang, the creature bellowed furiously. Gathering strength in its legs, it leaped into air and was about to land on top of Lin Huang.

Startled, Lin Huang turned and sped away.

The vampire landed on the 2nd floor’s crossbar. Seeing that its prey managed to escape, the vampire once again gathered strength in its legs and with a loud cracking sound, shot off towards Lin Huang, the crossbar buckling under the force of the leap.

Lin Huang sprinted into his room and dove under his bed. Grasping around in the darkness, he found his target. A box roughly a foot long, was quickly opened, revealing a silvery gray gun inside it.

This was the Gray Eagle 17, a new product from Desert Eagle Co.. It’s known for its astonishing firepower which could rival a BlackIron hunter’s firearms. Naturally, being a peasant, Lin Huang was unable to afford this gun. It was a reward for being the top graduate from the Hunter Preparatory Institution.

With a practised motion, Lin Huang drew the gun, loaded it and stowed the remaining two ammo clips in his left pocket. Flipping the safety switch on his gun, Lin Huang aimed at the doorway just in the nick of time as the vampire charged into the doorway.

“Bang!”

The gun’s muzzle emitted a bright flash followed by a thunderous gunshot. A frenzied howl reverberated in the room as the bullet found its target.

This shot did not injure the vampire but it severely weakened the Blood Energy layer around it. Its usual bright red lustre dimmed significantly as a result of the damage.

“Bang! Bang!” Two more shots rang out.

The vampire’s protective layer was further weakened by these shots. Flapping its monstrous wings, the vampire charged at the bed.

However, this move was within Lin Huang’s calculations.

He pressed against the wall beside the bed forcefully and used the reaction force to dive out from underneath the bed. With a few strides, he ran out onto the balcony and with a swift dexterous motion, grabbed onto the railing and jumped .

The vampire was thoroughly incensed by Lin Huang. Without much thought, it chased after Lin Huang and jumped down from the balcony.

Directly beneath the balcony was 101st Street. This street was one of the main thoroughfare of the stronghold. The street was flanked on both sides by towering fluorescent street lamps. While these lamps weren’t particularly bright, they emitted a clear but gentle white light, clearly illuminating the entire street.

The vampire glanced around furiously, trying to find Lin Huang. However, he was nowhere to be seen.

At this moment, Lin Huang was standing on the balcony once more. When he “jumped” off the balcony, he stealthily grabbed onto the railing with one arm, giving off the impression of having jumped off. After he saw the vampire jump off the balcony, he climbed back onto the balcony.

Back on solid ground once again, Lin Huang coldly gazed the vampire below him and aimed his gun.

“Bang! Bang! Bang! …”

In the darkness of night, the muzzle especially glaring. The vampire incoherently howled at Lin Huang.

The sound of gunfire mixed in with the monstrous howls of the vampire echoed conspicuously in the deathly silence of the night. The entire street dimmed as the neighboring houses turned off their lights. The sounds of gunfire and beastial howls periodically shattered the tranquility of nighttime.

Beneath the street lamps, the vampire’s haggard appearance was apparent to Lin Huang. Under the withering fire of Lin Huang’s Gray Eagle 17, its Blood Energy was nearly exhausted. The Blood Layer was nearly gone and the Blood Wings had long receded back into its body. The vampire was brought to his sense by the biting sensation of his hunger. Realizing that it was in a dire situation, it turned around and escaped.

Lin Huang did not immediately chase after the vampire, but instead continued firing at the vampire till he expanded his magazine. Seeing, that vampire was more than 200 metres away, he reloaded his gun and jumped off the balcony chasing the vampire.

Lin Huang would rather wait till the vampire had fled even further before chasing but the effective range of the Gray Eagle 17 was only 300 metres.

Beneath the silent night sky, the sound of continuous gunshots echoed, mixed in with the anguished howls of the vampire. With the weakening of its protective Blood Layer, the bullets started penetrating his defenses. While they weren’t enough to inflict a serious wound on the vampire, they were excruciating.

Like a experienced predator hunting his prey, Lin Huang maintained a 200 metres gap between his prey while continuously firing at the vampire.

With every bullet impact, the vampire’s Blood Layer was visibly affected. It shimmered with every shot and by the 18th bullet, the Blood Layer finally collapsed.

Smiling triumphantly, Lin Huang fired the last 2 bullets at the wound on the vampire’s left chest.

He ejected the expanded magazine and reloaded his clip. As he was about to aim at the vampire, he saw that the vampire had collapsed onto the ground. The vampire desperately tried to get up but failed miserably. It could only slowly crawl away.

Lin Huang stopped firing and chased after it, stopping a mere 15 metres away from the vampire. Based on the previous battle in the kitchen, he determined the attack range of the vampire’s wings to be less than 10 metres. As such, he determined 15 metres to be a safe distance.

Despite this precaution, he carefully aimed the aim at the vampire’s head and fired two shots at him. Seeing the vampire’s head exploding into a gory mess of brains and blood, Lin Huang was finally at ease.

“Beep!”

An announcement suddenly rang in Lin Huang’s ears. The familiar translucent menu UI appeared in front of Lin Huang.
