Monster Paradise Chapter 42

Translated and Edited by Catato Patch

At 4:30 in the morning, Lin Huang was suddenly awakened from his sleep. The sky was still dark outside.

In the distance, sounds of thunder and gunfire could be heard. The thunderous booms even shook the windows of his hotel room.

“Is it a thunderstorm?” Lin Huang was puzzled as those booms sounded like a cannonfire.

With these suspicions in mind, he walked to the window and peered into the distant sky. The sky was clear and filled with stars. It clearly wasn’t raining.

“This ruckus, don’t tell me it’s a battle between two transcendents.” As he thought about this, the thunderous echoes got further and further away until they finally stopped.

Putting away these distractions, he went back to his bed and slept.

At about 7 in the morning, his Imperial Heart Ring suddenly vibrated waking him up again.

He looked at the number, it was Yi Yeyu.

“Why is she calling so early in the morning…”, looking at the time, it was 6:40 am. He cleared his throat and accepted the call.

“Lin Huang, come to my room, I have something important to tell you!” Yi Yeyu’s tone was extremely serious.

“This early?” Lin Huang was clearly reluctant to comply.

“Hurry, stopping wasting time.” Yi Yeyu hanged as she finished.

Lin Huang gave his a face a quick splash of cold water and gave his mouth a quick rinse before leaving without even brushing his teeth.

When he entered her room, she was pacing back and forth, a disconcerted look on her face. She did not even notice Lin Huang entering.

“What happened?” He reached out and closed the door. He felt her reaction was really unusual.

“Zhang Bo is dead!” This was the first sentence that left her mouth as she turned around and addressed Lin Huang.

“What?!” Lin Huang blanked out for a moment, “ You mean the transcendent from last night?!”

“At 4 in the morning, I was awoken by a thunderous boom and guessed they were fighting so I used my scouting Relic to spy on their fight. At first they were fighting nearing on the back of the snowy mountains but they distanced themselves from the stronghold as the fight progressed. He fought with the monster for over two hours but was ultimately felled by it. Even his corpse was eaten, but it was seriously injured as well and dove under the desert floor.” Yi Yeyu explained.

“This matter, is the Hunter Association aware of it?” Lin Huang calmly asked.

“I’ve reported it. A little past 6am , after seeing that he died, I immediately reported it to them and sent them the video of the fight that I recorded with my relic.” Yi Yeyu nodded.

“What did they say?”, he asked.

“They said the next transcendent will take another two days...” Yi Yeyu said in a resigned tone. “However now that that monster is seriously injured, he would definitely take advantage of us not having a transcendent to start a monster horde and massacre the nearby strongholds in order to stock up on Prana to speed up its recovery.”

“Wouldn’t it be faster if you use your dimensional door to bring that transcendent over.” This idea suddenly came to him.

“The Green Wood Door is only a normal dimensional Relic. It’s not as omnipotent as you think. There’s a large number of restrictions on it. It can only teleport me to places I’ve been to and the effective distance is limited. The range is only 3000 km.” She shook her head as she explained.

“Then is there a limit on the number of people you can transfer in one day?” Lin Huang asked.

“A maximum of 300 people each time and only 5 trips per day. However there are 200,000 people in this stronghold…” She shook head. She naturally thought of this possibility was but quickly rejected it.

“There aren’t enough griffins either, only 50…” Lin Huang thought of using the griffins to evacuate but was quickly rejected.

“Forget it, there’s no point thinking about it. At 8, gather everyone and I’ll send you guys away.” Knowing that she was unable to help the populace evacuate, she decided to at least send the candidates away.

“But if we all go, the remaining 200,000 people will all be massacred by the monsters.” Lin Huang said with a glint of determination in his eyes. He didn’t agree to this methods as it was  essentially abandoning the residents to their deaths.

“I’ll stay behind.” Yi Yeyu said in a detached tone.

Hearing this, he fell silent. He was considering whether or not to ask for Xue Luo’s and Ice King’s help but ultimately gave up on this idea.

While he had saved Xue Luo, she had also repaired his Life Wheel and even helped him enter a state of Ethereal Perception. They did not owe each other anything. Besides, Xue Luo was a member of the monster world. Asking her to kill a monster whom she had no grievances with, was asking for too much.

After mulling over this, he made another suggestion, “You mentioned that the monster was seriously injured. If that’s the case, the chances of it attacking is low. It would probably send the monster horde after us. The surrounding hinterlands are at most two-stars, with monsters that weren’t stronger than a BlueCopper. If we stay behind to fight, it might not be hopeless.”

“While the monsters aren’t highly ranked, they have vast numbers. Even a gold Hunter like me would only get grinded to death by their immense horde. I’m a member of the Hunter Association so I have to stay behind to defend the stronghold.”

“You guys aren’t registered as Hunters so you all don’t have to stay behind. Don’t let the hot bloodedness of youth cloud your mind. Now is not the time to be stubborn about it. Stay alive, get stronger and take revenge for the people who gave their lives here.” She shook her head and firmly rejected him. She came to terms with her current predicament and was ready to die for her duty.

Seeing her current state, Lin Huang stopped pressing her.

At 8 in the morning, everyone had already received Yi Yeyu’s emergency message and gathered in the hotel conference room.

Lin Huang quietly sat in the back row of the hall.

Seeing that everyone was here, she began talking.

“The reason I’ve called everyone here today is because I have a piece of bad news to share.” ,she took a deep breath and prepared to elaborate. “Last night, the Association’s transcendent arrived and went after the transcendent monster. At 6 in the morning, he was killed by that monster.”

As she said this, the quiet room erupted.

“Even the human transcendent was killed, this stronghold is no longer safe.”

“If I knew this would happen, I would have left yesterday, that transcendent has definitely set its sights on this stronghold.”

“Miss Head Examiner, you should be able to send us off right?”

“Head Examiner, it was you who told us to remain behind, you have to take responsibility for our safety!”

"…"

Being on the receiving end of their criticisms upset her greatly but she had no way to refute.

“Everyone be quiet! And let the examiner finish what she wants to say.” Lin Huang stood up at this moment and shouted.

“Lin Huang, you have a part in this as well. If you did not stop us, a lot of us would have left over the previous few days.” Seeing Lin Huang stand up, someone immediately pointed the finger at him.

“Are you looking for a beating?!” Lin Huang immediately summoned Shiro. Shiro stood silently beside Lin Huang and coldly gazed at the crowd.

Seeing his expression, a lot of people stopped clamoring. They still remembered the consequences of offending Lin Huang.

“Lin Huang don’t try to use your minion to bully others.” Bai Yan stood up as well and opposed Lin Huang once more. He summoned his rakshasa and readied for battle.

“Everybody stop!” Yi Yeyu finally raised her voice to stop the impending riot.

Seeing Yi Yeyu on the verge of flaring up, the crowd immediately kept quiet.

“I’m not done talking,”, She forcefully suppressed her anger and continued, “ I’ve already contacted the Association and they will dispatch another transcendent over but that will take two days. So my decision is to first evacuate everyone in this room.”

Hearing this, all the dissent immediately died down.

However after a moment of silence, a young voice rang out from the back of the hall, “ Head Examiner, you can send them off, but I’ll stay behind.”
