Monster Paradise Chapter 48: A New Skill

While they were glad to have been able to replace Lu Yang. They also felt a tinge of pressure from the responsibility.

Lin Huang was clearly aware of what this meant. It was the real deal. They had become a vital part of the defence. They were like a jigsaw puzzle piece and this battle was the entire picture. No matter which piece was missing, the puzzle would remain incomplete and the battle, lost.

While he could not decide the battle of the other areas, he could at least ensure his area was defended flawlessly.

Taking advantage of the momentary respite, he reminded his team about the importance of following orders.

They nodded profusely. They knew as well that this was a serious matter and did not allow for missteps.

After organizing them, he began inspecting his cards, starting with the Rare Skill card he got from killing a higher ranked monster.

It was a Green Crystal Card with a giant question mark on its front and nothing else.

The card was inscribed with the following:

[Random skill card (Rare): After using this, you will gain a random rare skill.]

[Note: This is a consumable item. It is expended after 1 use.]

“This skill sure came at an opportune time. An additional skill would be a great help in the coming battles. The only problem is what kind of skill it will give me…”

Lin Huang currently possessed 3 skills : Grand Desolation Blade Scripture, Giant’s Endurance from Tyrant and the Blood Arts from Shirou.

However, Giant’s Endurance was a passive and Blood Arts was unusable at his level. So the only usable skill he had was Grand Desolation Blade Scripture. Fortunately, this blade skill was relatively strong and allowed to him to fully utilize his combat prowess.

The addition of another skill was definitely something Lin Huang wanted even though he did not know what it was. With a sense of trepidation, he contacted Kuro, “ Kuro, I want to use my random Skill Card.”

[Please confirm if you wish to use  Random Skill Card (Rare) x1?]

“Yes!”

As he mentally replied, the question mark in the center of the card projected a spinning stream of pictures. They flickered past his eyes rapidly and disappeared like a mini slot machine.

After 10 seconds of spinning, the flickering pictures finally settled down. The entire card was momentarily engulfed in a layer of white light which dissipated to reveal a new card underneath.

[Congratulations Master, You have attained a Movement Skill ------Traceless Snow Steps]

Hearing that he had drawn a movement skill, he mentally celebrated. He had planned on getting a good movement skill if he survived this battle, to complement his blade skill. Unexpectedly, he had drawn one instead.

He immediately inspected this card.

On the card front, were a pair of feet standing on snow but there were no traces left behind in the snow.

He flipped to back and checked its exact details.

[Skill Card]

[Skill Name: Traceless Snow Steps]

[Rarity: Rare]

[Skill Type: Movement Skill]

[Skill Rank: Golden Ranked Movement Skill]

[Status: Usable]

[Remarks: This skill is categorized as a Special Movement Skill, Its power isn’t limited by its rank but by the user’s combat strength]

[Rating: Meh]

“What a great skill!” Lin Huang burst into joy as he finished checking out his skill. This skill wasn’t limited by rank, similar to his blade scripture. He was worried that it needed Life Energy to activate.

He checked his Master Card and as expected, found his new skill.

[Master: Lin Huang]

[Gender: Male]

[Age: 15]

[Combat Rank: Nil (Below the minimum threshold)]

[Skill 1: Blood Arts (Lv.2)]

[Skill 2: Grand Desolation Blade Scripture (Blade Martial Skill)]

[Skill 3: Giant’s Endurance (Lv.1)]

[Skill 4: Traceless Snow Steps (Movement Skill)]

[Summoning Authority: Activated]

[Available Summon Count: 1]

[Rating: Still a scrub…]

After peeking at Kuro’s rating, he ignored it once more.

He was secretly overjoyed that he had gained a new movement skill. After that round of celebration, he refocused his attention back on the battlefield. Due to the tense situation, no one saw his abnormal behaviour.

It wasn’t long before another group of monsters broke through the second defensive layer and charged towards their layer.

It was a small group of minotaurs which got easily taken care of by Lin Huang’s team.

In the span of one afternoon, roughly 4 hours, they had encountered 11 attacks but they were all easily disposed of. After 2 more hours, they had encountered a total of 22 attacks, the pace had definitely picked up.

Lin Huang and his team weren’t the only ones who picked up on this increase. Yi Zheng and his sister had picked up on this as well and began to worry. This wasn’t a good omen.

As the sun sets, the monster horde becomes even more aggressive. Perhaps it was due to the sun setting or perhaps it was due to the transcendent’s bewitchment.

From evening till midnight, a total of 6 hrs, Lin Huang’s team experienced a dramatic increase in pressure. In that short 6 hrs, they encountered 46 attacks, a staggering 1 attack every 7 minutes.

However, they did not complain. They knew the gold and silver hunters had it much worse.

This whole time Yi Yeyu had been monitoring Lin Huang’s situation. She was afraid they might not hold up, but she was proven wrong time and time again as the team showed that their strength wasn’t any worse than the Copper Hunters.

Even the Copper Hunters who looked down upon them changed their minds.

Under the leadership of Lin Huang, they were well organized and worked well together. Even when faced with a large number of monsters, they kept their cool while Shirou and the team took care of them.

Lin Huang’s own performance was eye-catching as well. Even though he wasn’t a BlackIron, he displayed a combat strength surpassing a normal BlackIron. Even a Three-Star BlackIron died within 5 swings of his combat blade.

His minion, Shirou was just as attention grabbing. Besides the monsters who possessed an unusually high defence, he was able to kill everything else in one strike.

It was because of these two that the 12 man team didn’t face much difficulties.

As midnight came and passed, the battle didn’t subside one bit. It was the busiest midnight Lin Huang had since arriving here.

The night sky echoed with the furious roars of man and monster alike, mixed in with the occasional gunfire…

As the night dragged on, the monster’s ferocity grew.

The third defensive layer had been breached multiple times but fortunately Lin Huang and his team were there to plug it.

However everyone’s mood was just as dark. Given the current situation, it was only a matter of time before the third defensive layer collapsed completely…
