The floating cloud gentleman was as pale as a sheet of paper.
He didn’t want to admit it, but he had lost, and badly.
Going undercover inside the enemy’s camp for five years, trying to find more information to help the rebels, but in the end, he fell victim to Nie Rufei’s scheme. Yes, he had reported the information as soon as he got it, and his chief should be on his way to the Supreme Scared Imperial Palace. If they got ambushed, the damage would be so severe that even if he paid with his life, it wouldn’t make up for it.
Seeing how pleased Nie Rufei was with herself, Qin Jun sighed, feeling apologetic for Jiang Wan.
This was a huge project, so Nie Rufei shouldn’t be the only one involved. ~Seems like the Nie family had gotten the emperor’s trust long ago and if this plan succeeds, it would not be good for my family. As for the Chu’s, seeing how Chu Zhengyan reacted, he is somehow involved in this scheme too. So the Chu’s would surely benefit, even though not by much. As for the Jiangs, they are the most innocent party ….~ Jiang Wan may not be a rebel herself, but may be related to an important rebel. The damage to the Jiang family will be so huge that it will be almost impossible for them to get back up again.
Qin Jun couldn’t help but pity Jiang Wan. He saw how much effort she had put in to get where she was today and she was sacrificed just because she knew the floating cloud gentleman in the past.
~A cruel game, that you might not even win if you put in more effort. The result was decided since her birth….~
The floating cloud gentleman’s body starts to light up, shocking Qin Jun. He started to shout, “Look out—-” but it was too late.
Nie Rufei shot towards Jiang Wan and rainbow-colored spiral lights had formed.
Strength-wise, Jiang Wan was not weaker than her. But Jiang Wan’s was in a daze, and Nie Rufei’s attack was so sudden that Jiang wan did not have time to react.
An ice shield was formed just in time, but it was crushed into pieces by the rainbow light. The spiralling light did not even slow down as it shot towards Jiang Wan.
They were very close, and if the attack landed, it would be hard to say if Jiang Wan could make it out alive.
Just then, the floating cloud gentleman snapped his fingers, and numerous wind blades flew towards Jiang Wan as well.
“Whoosh—”
The spiral light and wind blades collided, dispersing along with the shattered ice shield.
Seizing the chance, Nie Rufei used her other hand to launch another attack, causing the light around the floating cloud gentleman to disappear.
After this, Nie Rufei smirked and shook her head. “Wow, I thought you really didn’t have feelings for her! Can’t hold it in anymore, can you?”
The floating cloud gentleman gave her a death glare, unknown if it was because he was angry or annoyed.
“Eh, that was….” Yan Wugui whispered.
“The floating cloud gentleman went into his enemy’s camp, he must have some secret skills or techniques to protect himself.” Lu Mingshu whispered.
“Ah….” Yan Wugui nodded. “No wonder she kept aiming towards Prince Jiang. Elder Miss Nie must be trying to find what the floating cloud gentleman’s secret skill is, so he wouldn’t have any methods to counter-attack after he realised that something went wrong.
Lu Mingshu kept quiet. This was really outside her expectations. Who would have expected that the princessy Elder Miss Nie would have so much hidden underneath her mask?
“Hey, but do you think she’s trying to kill Prince Jiang because she’s jealous?” Yan Wugui watched the show with gusto. “I don’t believe she would not feel a single thing after being married to him for five years.”
~Maybe?~ Lu Mingshu shrugged. In order to trick the rebels, she had even sacrificed her marriage.~Elder Miss Nie was obviously a selfish and egotistical person. No matter what was the reason that tied them together, they had been married for five years, and she was comparable to or better than Jiang Wan no matter which angle you consider things from. However, the person the floating cloud gentleman preferred had always been Jiang Wan. ~I would not believe that she did not try to kill prince Jiang because she was jealous.~
Seeing how angry the floating cloud gentleman looked, Yan Wugui felt a pang of pity. “Haish, he’s a poor thing.”
“Interested in helping him?” Lu Mingshu glanced over at him.
“Nah.” Yan Wugui shook his head immediately. “They might be the ones fighting, but they are representing the emperor and the rebel chief. We aren’t qualified to meddle in this.”
Lu Mingshu smiled. ~Even though he wasn’t as crafty as Xie Lianzhen, he had always understood the big picture.~
“And I don’t like him anyway.” Yan Wugui rolled his eyes. “He gave up everything yet he decided to choose his lover now. Failing in the end because he can’t decide what he wants.”
~Errr….Make sense, though~.
Jiang Wan looked up in anger at the married couple and yelled. “That’s enough! Don’t drag me into your family matters! Nie Rufei, I admit that I have lost, and I was stupid to let you toy around with me! But as for your personal feuds, they have nothing to do with me so please fucking settle it on your own and leave me out of this! And you!” She turned to face the floating could gentleman. Her eyes seemed to be tearing up but anger soon took over. “There’s no use in you doing all this fucking nonsence. Live up to the decision you made like a man! I may have hated you before, but it’s all the past. Now, don’t regret the choice you made and act like a real man!”
The floating cloud gentleman was extremely pale. He bit his lips and only started to speak after sometime. “I have never once regretted my mistake, but I admit I was stupid enough to fall for your trap.”
However, Nie Rufei sighed as she saw them concede defeat. “No fun. But whatever, let’s stop fooling around then, huh?”
She stared at the rest and shouted. “Get lost if you do not wish to die! If you do, I’m not taking responsibility!”
With that, she raised up the king crystal and crushed it.
They could hear it crack and saw it turn into many small shards.
A bright ray of light flew out of the crystal, and a tiny badge floated up mid-air.
Seeing the badge in Nie Rufei’s hand, Chu Zhengyan couldn’t help but grunt in annoyance.
~The emperor’s order!~ The information was true indeed. The emperor did really hide an emperor’s order in the sea of cloud’s debate! Even though it was not like what the rumour said, that the one who got it would become the next emperor. It would still be very beneficial to win it. Nie Rufei succeeded in tricking the enemy, and managed to get ahold of the emperor’s order. After this, the emperor would surely sit up and take notice of her.
~The Nies are really taking a single step to heaven.~
The badge turned into a ray of light and shot into Nie Rufei’s body. Formidable energy bursted out from her body and her strength rose substantially.
Yan Wugui moved back frantically, closely staring at Nie Rufei.
~This vicious and merciless bitch seems to be keen to kill the floating cloud gentleman. With her character, she should not care about if she accidently kills anyone else. Anyone getting dragged down would be extremely unlucky.~
Nie Rufei towered above the floating cloud gentleman, admiring the dire situation he was now. “I raised him up myself, and now, I will destroy him myself. I will finish what I started!”
As soon as she finished her sentence, she raised her hand and a huge palm appeared, emitting cold air which pressed down on the floating cloud gentleman.
Lu Mingshu might have been a distance from it, but she could still feel the impact and force of Nie Rufei’s attack. ~The emperor’s order most likely must have strengthened her ability to the freezing spirit phrase, the floating cloud gentleman will most likely not escape this round alive.~
Despite facing his near certain death, the floating cloud gentlemen was instead calm. He raised his hands and released all the soul energy in his body.
As a cultivator, even though he was aware that he would likely die, he would still try his best to counter attack too.
He embraced his coming death, but in the last moment, he saw an ice shield right form right in front of him.
It was crystal clear as if made of glass.
