One of the sirens takes the lead and dives towards me.
I don’t really have proof since I don’t know how smart they are…… but taking the lead could just mean that it has higher stats and faster speed than the rest.
As demonstrated by the other two, who can’t catch up.

Alright, let’s take out the stronger one first.

I check the status of the messy-haired Siren that’s shrieking at me as it approaches.

T-They’re fast……
Of course, I’m faster, but there are more of them, and they have plenty of skills that I am unfamiliar with.
This may be a bit too tough for Alo and the others. I guess that only shows how strong a normal Rank B is.
If this turns into a melee battle, I’m not sure if I can defend Alo, Nightmare, and Treant by myself.

They’re fast and they have numbers.
They also have a number of skills that we need to look out for, and they’re also long-ranged.
They’re the first ones I encountered who have the same〖Wind Slash〗skill as me.

〖Wind Slash〗is, to put it bluntly, strong.
It’s not as powerful as a blunt attack, but its force is comparatively close to it.
It can be shot at random directions, and its range is long. It’s even faster than magic spells.
It can be used as a feint and is great for hunting small fry. Even if the opponent is of the same rank, depending on the type of enemy you’re facing, it has the potential to end the fight just by shooting continuously at a safe distance.

Their MP is only 1/6 of mine left, but its magic power is definitely not low.
In fact, I’d say Sirens are the high MP types. But, the fight with that Adam earlier must’ve forced them to waste a bunch of it and their MP is still recovering.
With this, they’ll probably only use〖Wind Slash〗when the time is right, or maybe they’ll risk it all and just spam it.
When they do use〖Wind Slash〗, I’ll have to take the hit for Alo and the others.

First things first, let’s take out the one in the lead.
I flap my wings to generate wind, imbue it with magic, and fire it.
The blade of wind from my〖Wind Slash〗advances on the approaching Siren.

Then, the Sirens’ voices start to change.
The three shrieks shift into melodious harmony, and their tone begins to compliment one another.
It was as if instruments were playing alongside their singing.

My〖Wind Slash〗hit the Siren…… was what I thought, until I suddenly became dizzy, and noticed the one Siren I hit is now two Sirens.
The other two at the back also split into two, and multiple Sirens are now flying in circles above me.
W-What is this? I don’t…… remember them having that sort of skill.

No, they definitely don’t.
I felt this strange feeling before back in the desert near Haranae.
It’s the hallucination skill,〖Mirage〗.
Their〖Illusion Song〗must have the same effect as〖Mirage〗inflicted upon those who hear it.
After all, what kind of Rank B monster splits into multiples of itself.
Heck, I may be an A rank, but even I don’t wanna fight something like that.
Each one of those Sirens is just an illusion.

I attempt to shake off the hallucinations by trying to focus my mind.
I don’t know if the effects of the skill got stronger due to all three of them using it together, but my attempts in resisting only made my vision blurrier.
I know that if I use〖Status Inspection〗, I can determine the real one from the fakes, but with my blurry vision, I can’t even see the clouds in the sky.

Grrr, even though I’m only dealing with three ugly birds in the sky……

Although blurry, I can still faintly see their wicked smiles.
They’re making fun of me.
…… Seeing me all confused, impatient, and hesitant forced a smile on their face.

The Siren taking the lead slows down and lines with the other two behind, with all three of them increasing their altitude higher.
Then, as one hover diagonally from my side, the others do the same and all of them shoot〖Wind Slash〗at the same time.
Since each Siren split into two due to me seeing things, there were six blurry Sirens in the sky, meaning six blurry shots were coming at me.

N-Not good.
That’s way too many.
I know that only half of them are fakes…… but, if I move from my position to dodge them all, I can’t protect Alo and the rest.
Then again, if I just stay here and defend…… the situation will only get worse for us.
If I don’t take a risk, playing it safe will be the risk!

As I was screaming internally in my head, Alo had already climbed atop my shoulder.

“Curse Magic,〖Curse〗!”

From Alo’s fingertips, three eerie lights are emitted and released to the sky, leaving behind a black line of light in its path.
However, the speed of the〖Curse〗lights are slow-moving. There’s no way that’s gonna hit the Sirens on time.
Plus, their〖Curse Resistance〗is high. Even if it hits, it won’t really make a difference.
Since I don’t actually use curses that much, I can only compare it to my〖Dragon Moth Scales〗and〖Disease Breath〗, so I’m under the impression that it’s  similar to a slow-acting poison, but instead of medicine as cure, there are conditions to remove a curse.
I don’t see how it would be useful in actual combat.

C’mon Alo, stop moving around.
It’s dangerous…… wait. Alo has a skill that negates abnormal status conditions.
Compared to my low〖Illusion Resistance〗, no matter how high their illusion skills are, she can’t be affected at all because of her〖Unchangeable Status〗.
Does that mean Alo can see through them?

If so, then this changes things.
I focus on the one Siren where the lights from Alo’s〖Curse〗are heading towards, and the〖Wind Slash〗that it released.
I then extend my tail next to Treant and fire a〖Wind Slash〗of my own to parry it.
The Sirens become unsettled at the sight of me no longer hesitating.

Two more〖Wind Slash〗come my way.
It’s the one who took the lead and struck first. Must be because of the difference in magic power, but this one is faster than the others.

I press my face forward, taking the hit of one〖Wind Slash〗.
Aargh! My face! Everything hurts! My forehead down to my bottom left eyelid got torn.
Bluish blood drips down to my mouth.
Ow, ow…… but, if it only hurts this much, then I can still manage.

The other〖Wind Slash〗was just a fake, as shown that it just passed Alo, and disperses into little bits of light.

The〖Wind Slash〗I released earlier finally collides with the other〖Wind Slash〗that I meant to counter.
But, unfortunately for that Siren, I have higher magic power.
And so, my wind blades easily overwhelm the Siren’s, and utterly destroys it. But, it doesn’t stop there, and continues onward to the Siren itself.
The Siren folds its wings and takes a defensive posture.

My wind blades then hit the Siren.

“Kra~a~aa~a~a~a~aaaargh!”

The Siren screams in pain.
Feathers and crimson blood fly in the air.

The injured Siren spreads and flaps its wing to stay in the air, revealing a wide red horizontal gash on its abdomen.
Its white eyes widen as it plummets back to the earth.

The fake Siren next to it blurs out of existence and disappears.
The illusions of the other Sirens disappear as well, and has now returned to only three Sirens.

What the-? Despite their coordinated flying and synchronized vocal skills, their entire fighting style only revolved around illusionary〖Wind Slash〗?
They shouldn’t have relied too much on their magic and speed. If anything, they lack the toughness to handle someone of my level.

Don't think for a second you're better than me just by defeating one Adam.
That's, like, the weakest A rank.
…… Although, I guess it was me who attacked you first, but with one of you down for the count, you're all as good as dead.

Well, the Basilisk from before did give me some exp points.
I guess I only needed a few more for a level up.

I thought they’d start retreating now…… but, the remaining two Sirens still show no sign of backing down.

The two Sirens now have angry expressions in their faces.
At the same time, the pitch of their voice has changed.
Instead of their previous soprano voice that sounded like singing, this time, it’s turned into a disoriented noise worse than nails being grinded on a chalkboard.

I feel sick just hearing it.
Is this……〖Death Song〗?
From the name, it must be a song version of〖Death〗.

They’re raising the power of the skill by singing and repeating the song.
Their skills〖Multi-Musical Band〗and〖Chorus of Death〗only amplify the effects.
They know that using it normally would have little effect on me and that’s why they’re working together.

Looks like using〖Death Song〗disables them from using other skills.
They’re scared of me getting near them, because they realize I can kill them easily once I get close.

I thought I could have the advantage after defeating one of them…… but, they only grew cautious and decided to pin me down.
To them, I’m clearly superior in terms of long-range, attack speed and power.
And since close-range isn’t really their forte, they don’t want me to do anything at all……
