503 – The Topic of God’s Voice

『From here on, I will engrave what I know of God’s Voice.』

Tracing the lower half of the slab with a tentacle from her back, Umukahime reads aloud with [Telepathy]. I close my mouth and focus my gaze on the stone slab. What’s written might even clues as to the reason I was brought to this world.

『Cutting straight to the point, breaking through is not impossible. In the first place, God’s Voice’s objective is to gather all six divine skills into the body of an obedient pawn.』

From there on, she narrates about God’s Voice. Apparantly Hero Miia and Alchimia were on the receiving end of quite a lot of meddling from God’s Voice, and, surprisingly, God’s Voice let slip quite a lot about themself.

Apparently the divine skills were created to seal the fearsome being known as Evil God Foren. There were countless explanations available in the era of five hundred years ago as to the identity of Evil God Foren, and as many of them were religious doctrines as there were plausible theories. I hadn’t heard any of them other than Lilixira’s Holy County, but they might still remain in the world today.

…After raising the power of the surviving divine skill holder and having them incorporate the skill into their body by evolving, God’s Voice apparently disposes of them in person. Even if that survivor is rebellious, God’s Voice will wait to see how strong they can get before killing them. When Alchimia defeated the nameless Magic Beast King, Demon Lord Noah, and Saint Lumira and gathered the four divine skills, God’s Voice appeared before her and cut her down, but didn’t kill her.

『It is best to think of God’s Voice being able to use every skill. Of course, the stats were also far higher than anything I had seen. In addition, God’s Voice had a vicious mental attack skill that pierced through all my resistances at the time, and fought with that attack as the focus. I suspect that resisting it is impossible, and the only option is to endure through mental fortitude.』

Umkahime reads out detachedly… Fighting an entity that has every skill in existence already sounds impossible. A more powerful version of a [Chaos Ooze]… No, it’s probably worse than that. The scale is so big that I can’t even imagine it. Do I really have to fight an opponent that strong one day?

『No matter how much I reduced its HP, God’s Voice didn’t show the slightest sign of concern, so I expect that there was some hidden tricks. You must somehow slay them, all while enduring that inescapable mental attack, and while they are still being careless.』

…As I hear her words, a shiver runs down my spine. In the first place, God’s Voice is always monitoring me. I can’t imagine it’s at all possible for me to take them by surprise. As God’s Voice has an overwhelmingly superior position, they must of course be wary of being killed through luck or a clever idea. What Alchimia has written is more or less impossible to achieve.

…Do I really have to confront God’s Voice to that extent? I know God’s Voice has overwhelming power. I also know that I can never forgive what God’s Voice has done. Even in this era, just from what I’ve seen, hundreds of people have died meaninglessly as a result, and several thousand times as many probably fell victim five hundred years ago. I don’t know how long this has been going on for, but the victims probably numbers in the tens of millions.

They’re unbelievably evil, but are essentially a god. Even if I were to stubbornly resist, it doesn’t seem like I have much hope of winning. Besides… I have Aro and the rest with me. I can’t drag them into a fight and have them die for no reason.

I glance at Aro and the others. All of them appear shocked by Umukahime’s words. That’s only natural. Even I’m struggling to keep up despite already knowing some of it, but for them it’s impossible to understand suddenly being told that they’ve got to be hostile to a god that’s been killing people for countless generations.

I know it’s cowardly to avert my eyes from the truth of this world. But I don’t want to come to grips with this.

『If don’t know if it’s the truth, but God’s Voice claimed to be the last of the Six Great Sages who sealed the Evil God Foren. God’s Voice is able to interfere with Lapalce, the great power that binds the rules of this world, and has the authority to change those rules to some extent.』

Six Great Sages… I heard about them a while ago from Eldia in the adam ruins. I’ve also heard of Laplace.

…The last the Six Great Sages, in other words, the other five are dead? I don’t fully understand. In the first place, was there some reason for one of them to stay? Thinking about it logically… Was it to protect the seal on Evil God Foren.

『God’s Voice’s objective is to create a pawn that is able to interfere with Laplace to an even greater extent, and thus, using Laplace’s power, freeing the Evil God Foren. As a result, this world will be returned to nothingness.』

『Huh!?』

Th-the release of Evil God Foren means the destruction of the world!?

…In other words, the Evil God Foren who God’s Voice has been trying to revive for thousands of years is far stronger than God’s Voice. I wonder what sort of status Foren has.

…I can’t show any doubts in front of Umukahime, but it might be dangerous to believe all of Alchimia’s words. It’s possible that Alchimia could be lying for some reason, or that what God’s Voice told her was a lie in the first place.

But, I have a skill that supports Alchimia’s claims… My title skill, [Laplace Interference Authority]. Its level has increased when I’ve evolved, and both times that I acquired a divine skill. Right, the existence of [Laplace Interference Authority] supports the idea that God’s Voice wants to strengthen divine skill holders in order to gain greater control over Laplace.

My [Laplace Interference Authority] is level 4, Lilixira and the Hero who shared my name had it at level 3, and the slime and the fly guy had it at level 2. There’s some variation, but… I suspect the the upper limit of the level is set by the number of divine skills. [Laplace Interference Authority] felt dangerous, so I haven’t touched it much and don’t know much of how it works. I don’t know the principle or structures behind it at all, but it seems the divine skills themselves are connected to the seal on Evil God Foren through Laplace.

If what I’ve heard here is true, then… God’s Voice has had made me carry a ridiculous bomb. In short, in order to gain the authority to undo the seal on Evil God Foren, God’s Voice is reshaping the world, inducing wars, and manufacturing useful monstrosities.

『Under no circumstances should you allow a divine skill to pass into the hands of one loyal to God’s Voice. They would no doubt do as God’s Voice wishes and provide data towards creating the ideal divine skill holder in the following generations. That is the principle that leads towards God’s Voice having greater control over Laplace and the rules of this world.』

A divine skill holder loyal to God’s Voice… The image of Lilixira appears in my mind.

『But, there is an even worse possibility. The seal on Evil God Foren could be undone, and the world destroyed. Suicide is also meaningless. When the holder dies, divine skills transfer into the hands of the one most suitable for them. The highest priority is simply given to the one who defeated them in battle. So that the divine skills don’t fall into the hands of one obedient to God’s Voice, you must defeat the other holders and take them for yourself.』

…I had faintly suspected as much. I had a feeling that my battles with the Hero in Harenae and the slime weren’t just about keeping myself and my friends alive, or about protecting the peace.

I hadn’t been fully conscious of it until now.

But, my battle with Lilixira will be a critical point that decides the future of this world.

『Most likely, God’s Voice will have done something to prevent these words from being read. That is because the moment anyone lays eyes on this, God’s Voice will observe it too. God’s Voice seems to hate excessively interfering in the world, but that is not an absolute rule. Normally, we are treated as toys, but if something God’s Voice perceives as truly dangerous appears, they would quickly discard that principle and take action directly. That is who they are.』

Umukahime’s tentacle touches words near the end of the text. Is there still more? But what’s written hasn’t happened. God’s Voice hasn’t done anything to prevent me from reading this.

『If nothing has happened, then that is unexpected. It would mean that God’s Voice holds no fear whatsoever for this information.』

…Is all the information on how they attack, the existence of a hidden card, and the hints as to their identity of completely no consequence to God’s Voice?

“…That is all. Do you understand? You cannot escape from God’s Voice. Your options are either to resist and die, submit and die, or to emerge victorious… There is nothing else.”

Umukahime lowers her tentacle and stops using [Telepathy], speaking normally. She must have already known a lot of what was written here. It looks like reading it placed quite the burdon on her, as her forehead is drenched in sweat. To be honest, it had a lot of information I would have preferred not to have known.

If I had unknowingly defeated Lilixira, and then lived and died somewhere peaceful without receiving too much interference from God’s Voice, that would have been ideal… But, that’s probably impossible. If I had obeyed God’s Voice a little, I might have been able to enjoy some degree of peace after this, but… Now that I know all this, there’s no way I could do that.

“…I only understood it in fragments, but Irushia, it sounds like you’re wrapped up it a whole lot of trouble.”

Even that belligerent Volk’s face is pale as he stares at the stone slab with a helpless expression.

…I absolutely can’t afford to lose to Lilixira. But what can I possibly do against the God’s Voice behind her?

【[God’s Voice: Lv7] is unable to provide an explanation.】

An unexpected voice resounds in my mind… After all, are you still watching me now?

Suddenly, I sense a familiar presence, and release a [Dimension Claw] towards it. A distant fly monster bursts open, spraying body fluids.

I don’t receive any experience points. That’s one of Beelzebub’s vanguards for sure… It seem Lilixira won’t give me any more time.
