575 – A Moment’s Peace
Treant-san’s leg roots desperately rise and fall, as he crawls away from the approaching fenrirs.

『Why? Why is this happening…!?』

…It’s because despite your HP being almost all gone, you jumped up and down in your giant form.

I land between treant and the pack of fenrirs.

『Master-dono…!』

Treant-san’s trunk stretches out and sways to the left and right as though deeply moved.

I swing my foreleg, cutting a wide scar through the ground.

『How about it, fenrirs? I’m tired now, but if you insist I’ll take you on.』

I glare, and the fenrirs tremble and scatter in different directions. I breathe out a sigh of relief. It’s not that I can’t fight them, but I’m glad they stood down. I’d rather not have any unnecessary fights while my HP and MP are so low.

『Master-dono! I’m so glad you’re safe!』

He noisily runs towards me.

『…For now, would you mind taking your tree spirit form?』

『Ah… Sure.』

Using [Tree Spiritisation], his body rapidly shrinks down. A plump green penguin appears. Great, this should prevent any more monsters being attracted.

『Where are… 』

Just as I’m about to ask, Aro pokes her head out of a gap in a nearby mud wall. Our eyes meet, and her face lights up.

“Dragon-god-sama! Atlach-nacha! It’s dragon-god-sama! Dragon-god-sama has come back!”

Following Aro, atlach-nacha appears.

『Atlach-nacha!』

I knew she was safe from treant-san’s reaction, but seeing her with my own eyes is immensely relieving. I’m so glad… We managed to pull through without losing anyone.

“Did you kill Lilixira?”

Atlach-nacha asks. I slowly nod.

『Ah… Yes, I killed her.』

Noticing something in my response, she looks down.

『…I see.』

“Dragon-god-sama… Umm, has anything happened with God’s Voice?”

Aro touches a hand to my foreleg and looks up at me, her expression anxious. I quietly shake my head.

『I thought I’d receive some message or other, but there’s been nothing.』

I wonder if something unexpected happened for God’s Voice. It’s strange that there hasn’t been any contact at all.

『Let’s head up the mountain. We should let Umukahime know what happened.』

“Are you sure about that? It would have been great if she could have helped us against Lilixira, but is there anything to be gained by talking to her now?” Volk asks. “Didn’t she want you to fight that God’s Voice entity? If you make contact with her now, won’t that mean committing to fighting God’s Voice for certain?”

『That’s true, but… It seems God’s Voice has an interest in me. No matter what I do, I don’t think it’s possible for me to stay uninvolved with God’s Voice for the rest of my life. So, I think it would be for the best if I had Umukahime’s knowledge and assistance.』

“I see… Well, I suppose if it’s just against her, then even in the worst case, I doubt you would lose. Even if she ends up hostile, it wouldn’t be too heavy a blow.”

…Fighting Umukahime, huh. In the worst case, that would mean killing her.

Until Volk pointed it out, I hadn’t considered the possibility. It’s not impossible that our interests won’t align. In such a case, it’s not hard to imagine that she might take extreme measures.

Lilixira was certain I could never prevail against God’s Voice. But, Umukahime seemed set on killing God’s Voice. Hero Miia also wrote that killing God’s Voice isn’t impossible.

However, it appears to me as though Miia picked a reckless battle as a result of her lifetime of resentment. The determination of Miia, as well as Umukahime who inherited her feelings, is quite considerable. If I decide to avoid fighting God’s Voice and flee, I might end up antagonising Umukahime.

We should rest first. If we head to Umukahime now, it would be troublesome if we got into a fight while I’m still so exhausted.

I play with Aro and the black lizard while basking in the sun with treant-san. A while later, I walk to the seaside with Aro, where we join atlach-nacha in fishing with lines made of spider thread.

As the sun begins to set and we return to the waterfall cavern, Volk asks me for a mock battle. It’s nothing I can’t do with [Humansiation Technique]. Apparently, he’s taken an interest in my [Ideal Weapon] skill. While Aro and the others watch, I spar with Volk.

As expected, my massive stat advantage make it a pretty overwhelming win for me. However, the more we cross swords, the sharper Volk’s movements feel. I don’t know much about swords, but it seems that he has grown considerably as a swordsman from his battle with Howgrey.

“You really are strong, Irushia… This is with your power reduced by [Humanisation Technique], so your true strength is far beyond me.”

Volk says satisfied, lying on his back in the grass. We ended up going for twenty rounds. I’m fine, but will he really be over his fatigue by tomorrow…? He fought Howgrey earlier today too…

However, it seems to me like it’s Volk whose true strength is unknown. I know he was favoured by it being a sword fight, but I never thought he’d be able to get even a single point against me. If he keeps growing like this, he might become like Howgrey one day…
