643 – Final Tenacity
The hecatoncheir’s thick arm breaks and falls to the ground. The wound in its shoulder is far deeper than any attacks I’ve dealt so far.

It worked…! My [Flash that Drives Away the Darkness] landed! When it was one-on-one, it felt like it would never land, no matter what I did. But now, thanks to Aro disrupting its [Shadow Dance], it finally connected.

It did more damage than anything before! As I thought, this skill’s ability to bypass resistances counters the hecatoncheir amazingly well.

The light has faded from [Oneiros Raizem], but I swing it in a follow up attack. Aro aims a [Dark Sphere] at the hecatoncheir’s damaged shoulder.

Last time, I wasn’t able to cut down its MP by even twenty percent. But this time we’ve already almost passed twenty five percent, and I still have almost all my MP to spare. This is going favourably. I’m pretty sure the the hecatoncheir has any skills hidden up its sleeves. We’ll keep this up and win!

『That…skill… Mine…』

Though faint, I sense what feels like thoughts from the hecatoncheir. My [Telepathy] has picked it up. Something similar to this happened last time.

Does it still have some faint sense of self…? But what skill was that about? A moment later, I realise it must have been [Flash that Drives Away the Darkness].

The hecatoncheir is a former Hero. It probably used to have the skill.

『Why… Why do you-』

At the end, it felt like its thoughts suddenly cut off. It swings its sword, forcing Miia away while also parrying my swing.

…The hecatoncheir might still think it has divine skills. Its remaining sense of self really is just a small fragment.

From then on, it switches to focusing almost entirely on treant. It does the minimum amount to parry the attacks of me and Miia, and leaps around with [High Jump] to attack treant. It seems to have determined that the longer it ignores him, the further it’ll fall behind.

Continuously predicting its movements, Miia and I coordinate to press the attack.

『Treant, can you handle it? If it gets bad, use [Tree Spiritisation] to run away!』

『It’s okay! It can’t afford to attack me in quick succession. I also can use [Undying Regeneration]!』

『That’s fine, but don’t forget to run if you need to! Once you get small, I’ll pick you up with my mouth!』

『…Is that a threat to make me not retreat, master-dono?』

I-I thought that would be the safest way… But it seems he’s not a fan of it.

Either way, I’m glad the hecatoncheir’s attacks have become so predictable. It’s certainly true its sitatuion of being one-sidedly disrupted by treant while surrounded by Miia and me was’t good for it. But, while it’s focusing him, it’s full of openings for us to attack. From our perspective, it doesn’t matter much which strategy it goes with, but this way is certainly less stressful for me.

The swords of me an Miia combined with and Aro’s [Dark Sphere] act to break down the hecatoncheir’s body. The shattered parts quickly mend over, but its MP is getting lower and lower.

Treant has also given up on dealing damage, and is focusing entirely on catching it with [Woven Armour]. Each time he succeeds, the hecatoncheir is forced to use [Shadow Dance] to escape. Then, if as long as she can predict the [Shadow Dance] timing, Aro disrupts it with [Dark Sphere].

No matter how much we attack, the hecatoncheir shows no sign of exhaustion. But its MP is certainly falling.

Aro’s [Dark Sphere] again explodes just as the hecatoncheir sinks into the shadows. A crater forms in the ground, and the hecatoncheir reappears.

“Dragon-god-sama! I did it!

『Well done Aro!』

Seizing the opportunity, I cut with [Flash that Drives Away the Darkness].

It’s incredibly tough, but we’re nearing the end.

The hecatoncheir swings its sword at me in retaliation. I twist my body away, kicking off the ground to escape to the air.

『Miia! It’s finally down to ten percent!』

Both of us still have energy to spare. Treant also has yet to use [Undying Regeneration]. Aro is a little exhausted after having shot her most powerful attacks so much, but she hasn’t taken any damage.

It was a bit worrying at the start, but it looks like this will be an easy victory. Treant’s disruption has been many times more effective than expected.

“Let’s end this!”

Miia kicks off the tower with [Godspeed Flash], then kicks off of treant to slip behind the hecatoncheir.

But, it quickly twists around, matching her sword swing with its own. It apparently has learned to predict her fast movements. It releases a [Dimension Rend] at her head.

Miia manages to dodge by ducking her head down, but her stance is broken. The hecatoncheir steps forward and swings its sword a second time. Miia raises her sword, barely managing to block.

“…After talking about not getting negligent, I ended up letting my guard down”

The hecatoncheir kicks Miia away with its giant leg. Her body carves a line through the ground as she tumbles.

The hecatoncheir’s attack is low for a Legendary, but it’s still enough to damage another Legendary. On top of that, Miia is extremely vulnerable while humanised. That hit probably did a lot of damage to her.

Its status hasn’t changed. But, the hecatoncheir movements are suddenly much smoother!

Since the motion of [Godspeed Flash] is so direct, it’s certainly possible to predict it. But, that was exactly why Miia jumped around so much before. And yet, the hecatoncheir completely read her movements. It wasn’t a blind guess. It definitely knew she would be there.

Miia said she let her guard down, but that’s not it. There was no way the hecatoncheir would have been able to do that before. It feels like a switch suddenly flipped.

『I have…my mission… I can’t fall yet…!』

The thoughts I sense from it are clearer and more powerful than before. It aims its sword towards me and breaks into a run. It’s not pursuing Miia, or seeking to deal with treant, but is intent on defeating me first.
