AFTERWORD

Let Mr. Regulus’s creepiness reach one and all!

Hello there, it’s Tappei Nagatsuki, the Mouse-Colored Cat! And good-bye to any more changes to the afterword format!

Thank you very much for sticking with me through Volume 17 of the main series! I’m going to assume that you’ve already read the previous volumes, so if not, consider this your spoiler warning!

Now then, today’s topic is the theme of Arc 5! With the royal-selection candidates and the Archbishops of the Seven Deadly Sins lined up, I wonder if everyone gets that this arc is like a huge, chaotic all-star showdown! The protagonists have been getting driven into a corner in a fairly one-sided manner, but that’s just the difference when the fully prepared and the unprepared clash.

Either way, with gates closed on every side, this work is all about how the protagonists will rise back up from rock bottom, so definitely don’t overlook the battle in the next volume!

As usual, there’s a lot of things going on all at once, but right around when this volume comes out, the theatrical version of Re:ZERO should be released to the public, the comic version of The Love Song of the Sword Devil is starting up, and also, there’s a collaboration novel between Re:ZERO and Mushoku Tensei (manga version, too)! In any case, there’s lots and lots of stuff going on! You get to see a lot of Subaru and Rudeus in the same scenes, which is really interesting, so definitely check it out! See, Mago, I did some publicity, too!

So after that brief promotional break, let me charge straight into the customary thanks!

To Editor I, sorry that this time, the schedule was even tighter than usual! Who was it who said Arc 5 would be a breeze compared with Arc 4, hmm? Thank you in advance for your help with Volume 18!

To Otsuka, the illustrator, we’ve finally seen nearly all the Archbishops of the Seven Deadly Sins! Given that we started with “Well, she has no fixed form…” for Capella and her Authority, you did a fantastic job drawing her! But it just wouldn’t be okay to have a swarm of flies for the cover! That’s just a bridge too far! I’m looking forward to working on the next one together as well. Thank you very much!

To Kusano, the cover designer, this time, like last time, it’s just one great illustration after another, but since we’ll probably be continuing this pace for a little while longer, please keep sending your amazing work! Thank you very much!

And to Matsuse, who charged forward in the aftermath of the comic version of Arc 3, with Tsubata Nozaki joining in for The Ballad of the Sword Devil series that’s just starting, thank you for your hard work on the manga version of Re:ZERO!

To everyone else at the MF Bunko J publishing department, all the distributors and bookstore employees, and all the other involved businesspeople, I have truly been taken care of by a great many people. Thank you very much as always!

And around when this volume hits stores, the theatrical version of the series will be gearing up for a public release as well! To all the animation staff, truly, truly, thank you so much! It’s thanks to the OVA that I’ve managed to get past Volume 17!

Finally, my inexhaustible thanks to every one of you readers who have always supported me!

August 2018

“Ahh, so it turns out me and her are doin’ this next-volume preview, I guess.”

“Ohh, the next-volume preview! I know this! It’s that thing the lady did! Mimi, too! Mimi wants to do it, too!”

“Daaah! Pipe down! I’m sayin’ you and me are gonna be doin’ this. Don’t be all mad dogs have no ears for hearing and listen when people talk!”

“Ohh, gotcha! So? What kind of announcements are we making?”

“First, the next book, Volume 18, is expected to go on sale in December. I’ll be honest—we all got pasted pretty good back there. Ain’t my style not to get some payback real soon.”

“I get that! I really do! Uhhh, after that, what’s this thing happening on October 6? Looks like there’s gonna be an oh-vee-ay or something!”

“That must be the public openin’ for the theatrical OVA. Sounds like another mansion story before I joined the crew. Means we’ll get to see the general and Ram on a real big screen… Crap, why ain’t I there, too?!”

“Garf, reflections later! The announcements are reaaaally important!”

“It don’t sit right havin’ to hear that from you, but I guess that’s true. So ’round the same time, there should be a Lady Emilia birthday event, and an OVA public screening at Shibuya Marui.”

“Plus, there’s gonna be cake and stuff! And lots of other stuff, too! Mimi, too! Mimi wants to eat that, too!”

“And The Love Song of the Sword Devil series is gonna start goin’ on sale on September 27 in Monthly Comic Alive. That’s the story of the Sword Devil and the Sword Saint. Me, I’m real interested in it, too.”

“Ohh? But wasn’t the real Sword Devil that old man right there at the ryokan?”

“Y-you moron! Like I can just walk up to the real guy and talk to him face-to-face. If I don’t prepare for that first…”

“Haaah, Garf, are you scared?”

“Wha—?”

“Garf is a scaredy-cat, huh? But that’s okay. Juuust okay. It’s not like Mimi’s disappointed or anything, so it’s noooo biggie!”

“Who are you callin’ a scaredy-cat?! I’m not scared! Oh, that’s right! I’ll prove it to ya and give the Sword Devil a piece of my mind face-to-face, right now!”

“Cool! Garf, you’re so gutsy, it’s super cool!”

“Oh, well, that goes without sayin’! Me, I’m Gorgeous Tiger!”

“And I’m Gorgeous Mimi!”
