They headed for the nearest evacuation point. When they got inside, a crowded field hospital appeared before their eyes. Led by Beatrice, they walked among the people to find their friends. Lying on their beds, Garfiel and Otto saw them first.

- Chief! You're back! - they heard the blond man's energetic voice. He waved at them with a wide smile on his face.

Otto merely nodded in greeting.

- O! Garfiel! - said Subaru, and then he noticed that his companion was in a good mood, but his body was injured and his skin was dark with bruises. - Damn, what happened to you?!

The boy smiled wider.

Something tells me his battle was difficult, yet very rewarding... Well, I can only rejoice with him.

- Do you still have the strength to care about others? You look terrible!

- No such thing, Chief! In fact, I'm almost fine now, just need to rest once in a while because I often help heal the wounded. And by the way, Chief, you're great! You showed everyone how a real guy does it! Lady Emilia has been saved!

- Of course I showed it! - Subaru grinned proudly.

They clashed their fists triumphantly, thus showing that they appreciated each other's achievements.

Emilia and Beatrice looked at each other.

- Men! - commented the smiling half elf.

- Betty will never understand them, or themselves, or this twisted, difficult world of theirs," muttered Beatrice decidedly less kindly.

- Hey, hey! It's a known fact that girls won't understand! - Garfiel said, flashing his fangs. - Chief, you know...

- Heeeey! Gaaaarf! There you are! Tadadada!

- Whoa! - groaned Garfiel, to whom a small figure had just sat down on his chest and waved his tail.

- Uhahaha! Garf, you weren't expecting me! - cried Mimi. - We must be vigilant! The real enemy lurks in our hearts! In our hearts are the people who are important to us! It must be so crowded in there!

- — E... Hey, baby, what are you jumping all over people for?

- Chi, chi, chi! The missus told Mimi that men like to be held under the heel! And that you have to have... a, uh... a pickup strategy! Well, somehow! - explained the happy she-cat.

- Mimi, you look good! - Subaru said. He breathed a sigh of relief. seeing that the girl seemed to be healthy and had so much energy. When he left the town hall, she was badly injured.

- Yep! Hello! Apparently a lot of stuff happened while I was sleeping! You must be all tired! And Mimi's rested! And now she's like a newborn, just look at how much energy I have! .

- You'll never change. Garfiel, you're relieved, aren't you? - Subaru turned to the blond man.

He certainly felt that she had been hurt by him. It was horrible when he burst into the room like that, holding her in his arms.... Fortunately, everything turned out well. He must be happy to see her jumping around full of energy.

- The same as always, too much so. E, kitten, I already told you not to make such a fuss, people are resting - he reprimanded her, looking at her sternly.

- Ha! - Her eyes lit up. - Garf, not good! Look, your wound has opened! It's dripping blood! Drip, drip!

- Stupid! That's what I meant! Shit! Hurry, I need help! - he shouted, got up and ran deep into the shelter with a laughing Mimi under his arm.

For Subaru, it all happened far too fast. He suddenly noticed one thing.

Garfiel has stopped whispering, he talks a little slower... I wonder if it's Mimi's influence...

- Chi, chi... Under such circumstances, Garfiel didn't even have time to worry! - Emilia remarked.

- Yeah... - muttered Subaru, then burst out laughing - They make a good couple!

- Mimi is sweet, and I think she likes Garfiel a lot... but he's in love with Ram. Well, that's gonna get complicated.

- Yeah, yeah... Hey, oh, shit! Did you notice such details, Emilia-tan! - Subaru was amazed. He hadn't expected any kind of perspicacity in male-female matters from her.

Hey, what's it like? I confessed my love to her and I'm patiently waiting for her answer, because she claimed that she doesn't understand these things and she needs to learn a little bit about the world. And now it turns out she does understand after all!

- Oh, my... You are so sweet... You both have grown up a lot lately," said Beatrice, who was watching from the side.

- And this is said by Beatrice, who looks like a child herself! - interjected Otto.

- Gosh, Otto, and I was already afraid you had lost your voice, you were so quiet!

- Because I'm sorry! I thought you had come to visit me too! - he cried theatrically.

Indeed, throughout the conversation with Garfiel, they stood with their backs to Otto.

- I heard from Beako that now you're not just advising, but fighting. I hear you've been roaming the city, looking for some Archbishop to knock up. You want to fight? You like it, admit it!

- Someone is spreading rumors here! Stop making such baseless accusations," replied Otto, again in an exaggerated tone.

Subaru was glad that the merchant had plenty of energy, but there was no doubt that he must have been badly injured. Just looking at his pale, tired face and tightly bandaged legs was enough.

- Otto... How are you feeling? - Emilia asked with concern.

- It looks like it will still be a while before I start walking, but supposedly I'll be back to being completely functional. See what an injustice this is! You go off to battle and come back safe and sound, and I go out for a walk and get badly injured! Life is very unfair!

- Oh dear... Looks like you had a tough skirmish! And yet, that's not your job. I'm glad there wasn't more tragedy!

- It seems that only Lady Emilia knows what a counsellor's job should be," muttered Otto, moved to tears.

The half elf looked at him confused. I don't think she quite understood why he was the one crying.

- Apparently you came across the Gluttony on your way to get the Book? - Riddled Subaru, repeating what he had heard from Beatrice.

No more jokes, time to talk about serious stuff. Like this whole Book thing. Otto didn't want to fill us in on the details. I understand he was just worried about us, but I'm worried too!

- After all, you can tell us what and how. We're friends!

- You had to save Lady Emilia, and on top of that, you took on the fate of the city like a true hero. Was I supposed to bother you with something like that? No way," said the merchant in reply. - I'm not going to blame my problems on my friends! - he added.

It sounded so serious that Subaru had to look away.

- They can't normally tell each other that they care about each other.... I don't understand men," muttered Beatrice resignedly.

- They do," Emilia giggled, covering her mouth with her hand.

Subaru glanced significantly at Otto, and the latter nodded. They didn't want to talk about the Book of Wisdom in front of the half elf, so they decided to change the subject.

It would be better if Emilia never had to deal with the Witch's writings. It's safer that way.

- The important thing is that you're okay. You'll always make it out alive! - cried Subaru.

- Am I okay? Well, I wouldn't say so.

Otto fell significantly silent.

- What do you mean? Something you haven't told us yet?

- Yes, but it's a difficult subject. Mr. Natsuki, please stay away from the adjacent evacuation point.

- Excuse me? - Subaru tilted his head uncertainly. Emilia and Beatrice reacted similarly.

- They're holding the Archbishop there. They managed to catch one.
