Crew members on the space vessel would periodically save their memories and thoughts into a designated device . Once they die of old age, other crew members would transfer their most recent record of memories and thoughts into the new clone’s body . In that way, the clone would instantly have the memory and knowledge of the recently deceased crew member .

As such, although the old crew member had died, the new clone body would have perfect knowledge and memory of the deceased crew member . The clone would be able to continue the work of exploration on behalf of the deceased crew member . In other words, this meant the deceased crew member had achieved eternal life .
