The dim lights on the streets. The pungent smell.
Although this was not his first time at the mortuary, Huang Ling Jun still felt uncomfortable. As he pushed open the door to the mortuary, Huang Ling Jun saw Wolf’s corpse lying on the autopsy table. The surrounding pallets were still filled with all sorts of blood samples, pieces of flesh and some sort of equipment that Huang Ling Jun could not name.
This victim was found at the hospital yesterday. Although normally these sort of murder cases were not handled by Huang Ling Jun, this time the case was peculiar and Zhongdu City’s Public Safety Bureau Chief dragged him out of bed with a single call.
“How savage.” Seeing the corpse once more, Huang Ling Jun could not help but frown.
The four limbs were broken, his neck was torn apart and barely any part of his body was intact, even his skull had a gaping hole. If there was no analysis of the case earlier, Huang Ling Jun might have assumed that this was the action of a psychopathic serial killer.
He stood at the autopsy table and waited for a while, until the forensic doctor Zhang Wei walked in.
“They actually mobilized you? Hehe, those guys at the criminal department are out of a job.” Zhang Wei was slightly shocked seeing Huang Ling Jun observe the corpse.
He packed up his equipment while saying: “The autopsy report has been sent to your email, you still have the mood to observe this pile of flesh? You know, yesterday the two newbies who sent the corpse over here almost vomited their hearts out. To be honest, this is the most brutal corpse I’ve ever seen in my years of working in this field.”
Huang Ling Jun turned around the look at Zhang Wei, and smiled: “There’s no choice, within the entire bureau only I am capable of handling this matter. I’m here today to ask you a few questions on the matter, answers that cannot be found in the report.” Huang Ling Jun said with a meaningful glance.
He knew that when writing the autopsy report, if there are ability users involved in the case, there might often be extraordinary discoveries. And these peculiar situations were unacceptable by most of the police forces’ upper level leaders.
There’s no way you can tell your leader that the victim was murdered by an ability user using supernatural forces. Or at least in the report it cannot be written like this, or you’ll be sent to an isolated region to work at for the rest of your life.
Thus, although ability users were not a secret among the high level government officials, in any Xia Country’s official documentation, there is no records of them to be found.
Thus, when the forensic doctors encounter a case with ability users involved, they would usually leave out some details or edit some parts so that the explanation sounds logical.
And for the truth of the case, it’ll be handled by secret forces such as Huang Ling Jun who is specialised in tracking these supernatural cases.
“That’s all I know.” Zhang Wei muttered although he still answered Huang Ling Jun’s question.
“The cause of death?” Huang Ling Jun casually flipped the deceased’s information, but still asked.
“Excessive bleeding in his neck artery, plus half his brain was pulled out from his skull, no matter which situation it was, his death was assured.” Zhang Wei pouted: “What is noteworthy is these two spots.” He pointed to the corpse’s arm and neck.
“This pair of arms is way larger than any normal human being. It is almost 4 times the thickness of a normal person, and it is completely muscles, with little to no fat. I would believe you if you told me he can kill a bear barehandedly.”
“Maybe he was an Olympic level athlete? Who specialised in training upper body muscles?” Huang Ling Jun was uncertain: “Is there such a possibility?”
“Have you ever seen any bodybuilder whose muscles grew on the forearm? Popeye?” Zhang Wei shook his head: “Any form of training is bound to involve the whole body, there is no way he can only train such a specific portion of his body, with the rest of his body being especially weak as if they were malnutrition. A stark contrast from his forearm.”
Huang Ling Jun nodded, he calmly analysed: “This Wolf should be a Mutation Series Ability User who specializes in controlling his muscles. This would explain the cause of the damage to the crime scene, it was due to his strength. However, the killer was able to tear him to shreds head on……”
“There’s also the neck.” Zhang Wei pointed at the corpse, towards the windpipe that was torn apart.
“It was bitten apart?” Huang Ling Jun asked: “The killer did not receive any form of proper martial arts training, or was it because the killer and the deceased had a deep enmity?”
“That is what you have to investigate, my job is to only explain the corpse.” Zhang Wei breathed out and slowly said: “That piece of flesh could not be found.”
“Huh?” Huang Ling Jun could not react in time.
“The flesh that was torn out from the neck, we could not find it. We scoured the entire hospital but it was nowhere to be found.” Zhang Wei’s eyes began to emit a hint of terror.
“In most cases, even if the killer bites the victim and tears his flesh apart, they would immediately spit it out, are you trying to say…?” Huang Ling Jun could not believe it.
“I do not want to imagine this either, but when I was dissecting the brain, guess what I found?” Zhang Wei sneered: “A normal adult’s brain weighs around 1300-1400 grams, but in the corpse’s skull, we only found 500 grams. Hehe, at least 800 grams of his brain matter was missing. Either the victim was brainless when he was alive, or someone took his brain matter away.”
Huang Ling Jun frowned: “You are saying that the killer took a portion of the victim’s brain matter?”
“I suspect he ate it. But whatever the case, you will need to investigate it. I am only in charge of passing you all the information I can obtain from this body.”

Thus it was extremely unbelievable for Huang Ling Jun to think that in this age where even the homeless would not starve to death, there is actually a cannibal? He proceeded to ask: “What about the other policeman?”
“Brain dead.” Zhang Wei said: “To be accurate, his brain suddenly stopped functioning, and his body, other than the bruise from the falling impact, had no other external injuries. But as his brain had ceased functioning, he stopped breathing and his organs stopped operating. I have never seen such a cause of death before.”
“Is there any traces of poison?” Huang Ling Jun rubbed his chin as he said: “Or maybe some dieases? Does the victim have any sort of medical history?”
“No, none at all. If not for him not breathing, I would have thought he was still alive.” Shang Wei sighed: “He is more fortunate that that pile of flesh, at least he can be buried as a whole.”
Huang Ling Jun felt that the case was even tougher to crack now, and thought: ‘The actions of an ability user? If it is, that means it was done by at least 2 ability users. Or maybe someone with multiple abilities? What relationship do they have with the missing Li Anping?’
At this point, Huang Ling Jun’s phone rang. He picked up the call and rushed out.
Gritting his teeth, he growled: “This bastard…”
Zhang Wei behind him asked: “What is it?”
Huang Ling Jun did not answer, his thoughts were still on the earlier phone call.
16 hours after the murder case at the hospital, another similar murder has occurred, assumed to be done by an ability user……
