1353 Racked Her Brains? 3

Qi Feng’s words stunned Doris for a moment. She then started laughing coldly.

“I knew he had this side of him after being married to him for over 30 years! I’m done playing nice now. I’ve told Glenn to organize the collected evidence and deliver them to the police as soon as possible.” A chill flashed in Doris’ eyes.

“You might want to consider the consequences. I heard that Father frequently visited his lawyer. It might be related to Hui Gu,” Qi Feng frowned and said.

Doris put on a cold smile. “He would have made those decisions without my interference anyway. I know Gu Qiwu the best! It’s true that my miscalculations have led matters to this state, but don’t worry. I’ll keep my promise for sure. I’ve prepared an alternative to pull out, but you have to promise me that if something really happens to me…you must give it your all to protect Shasha…and Weiwei. Perhaps, this is my debt to them…”

Doris was not someone who would let her pride get to her head. She had done a lot of thinking and calculations in the past few days, including ruminating about her failure.

Facing the cold-hearted Gu Qiwu and the smart, powerful Mu Yuchen, who were both tough opponents, Doris thought to herself if she should take the gamble.

Qi Feng’s heart sank when he heard her words.

Doris was never someone to admit defeat so easily. Her words proved that the current situation was highly unfavorable. He was not sure what happened between Gu Qiwu and her. Could Gu Qiwu not be scared of getting jailed at all?

“Mother…” Qi Feng wanted to say something but could not find the right words at this moment.

Doris thought she would be ranting to Qi Feng about her dissatisfaction, but she had lost her mood to do so.

“Remember what I said. I won’t give up easily. From this point onwards, you and Shasha should stop visiting me in order to avoid trouble. Gu Qiwu is trying to push me into a corner, so I have no choice but to fight back. After all, I do have a chance right there.”

Doris’s phone on the coffee table started ringing all of a sudden. She took a deep breath and glanced at the screen. Her strained expression softened slightly before she glanced at Qi Feng. “You can go back now. Glenn, send him off!”

Doris grabbed her cup of tea and headed into her study room before answering the call.

Qi Feng quietly looked at her. It was not hard to guess the call was very important to her, especially since it was rare to see such an expression on her face.

“Hello? Alex, it’s me…” She spoke fluent English. Naturally, Qi Feng understood her as well, but that was all he heard before she vanished further into her study room.

“First Master!” Morrison’s voice reached him moments later.

“Let’s go back.” Qi Feng looked away and moved his wheelchair on his own.

“Yes, First Master!” Morrison quickly went behind him and quickly rolled his wheelchair towards the exit.

It was pretty late when they got out of the hotel. Instead of heading right back to the Qi residence, Qi Feng asked the chauffeur to go around City Z. Soon, they somehow arrived at the Grand Lake Villa area, where Qi Lei’s house was…

He stayed there for quite some time before returning to the Qi residence. Everything that happened was reported to Qi Qiming. Qi Lei was still nowhere to be found after all this time, and Qi Qiming was really worried.

“How long did he stay there for?” Qi Qiming asked with a strained expression.

“I heard it was for about two hours. There were a lot of cigarette butts on the ground when he left,” his secretary answered.

Qi Qiming went silent for a while. “What do you think about this whole thing?”

“CEO Qi, there’s no evidence that points towards First Master. I’m worried that we might be tricked into doubting one of our own. We need to be cautious.”

Qi Qiming nodded. “You might be right, but why haven’t we gotten any news after all this time? Even Mu Yuchen has nothing. I feel really uneasy as if a storm is about to hit us!”

“I think Second Master will be fine if the matter isn’t directed at him, but with this incident, Second Master’s plan to take over the new company will be delayed, plus…”

“What’s your opinion on Qi Lei?” Qi Qiming looked at his secretary and asked quietly.

His secretary paused and took some time to think. “CEO Qi, to be honest, I think Second Master is pretty decent. Just look at the projects he was handling before. He did a better job than some of the more experienced managers could’ve done. Even Vice President Yue has a better impression of him. I think that perhaps you could cultivate him, CEO Qi. I feel that you might’ve been a little too harsh on him, and we—”

Qi Qiming raised his hand and stopped his secretary from continuing. “That’s enough. I understand.”

“CEO Qi…”

“It’s getting late. You should head back.” Qi Qiming sounded tired.

His constant worries made him look aged. Furthermore, his health had not been great ever since Wang Qin’s death, and the constant anxiety was putting a toll on his body.

At times like these, he began to think that his life with Wang Qin was actually quite enjoyable. Although they fought almost all the time, at least, she was still alive, and no matter how much Qi Lei disliked him, they still met from time to time…

Qi Qiming felt a painful sensation in his chest. More and more people were leaving him, and he suddenly realized that he was so lonely.

However, many things were gone forever once they were lost…

How could he bear losing his son right now?

There was no way he could allow that!
