Sera and the Volunteer Work

"Miko, Nana here yet?"

"Miko miko, Nana and Nana's Mashter here yet?"

"Sorry, they haven't arrived yet."

From the other side of the crowd, I hear the voices of the sea lion kids and the Tenion Priestess Sera.

Those kids call me 'Mashter' because of Nana, but they can't quite pronounce it right.

"Master, I hear the voices of the young organisms calling me."

As Nana hears the voices of the children, she grabs my arm and starts forcing her way through the crowd while pushing other people to the side.

"W-wait up Nana, you're bother these people."

"This task has priority."

She says it as if it was completely obvious, and I don't know how I'm supposed to respond.

I end up apologizing on her behalf as we make our way to the soup kitchen where Sera is waiting.

"Nana!"

"Mashter!"

As we arrive at the soup kitchen, the sea lion kids notice us and start waddling over.

"Young organisms, I declare my return!"

Nana opens her arms wide open and locks the kids in a big hug. They are happily flailing around in her arms.

"Satou-san, thanks as always."

"No, it's nothing really."

I exchange greetings with Sera, then help set up the soup kitchen with the rest of the girls.

The sea lion kids make sure that everyone lines up in an orderly fashion.

When they see someone trying to cut in line, they walk up and warn them.

"P-please line up."

"Please."

When they see their teary-eyes, most adults get back in line with the classic tsundere line: "Fine, just this once though."

However, there are a few that get mad for no reason--.

"How annoying! Who do you think you're talking to!"

Like this idiot, who's trying to get through by threatening. For these types, the older girls will bring them to justice.

"Why don't you go ahead and tell us who you are?"

"Death to criminals."

They act arrogantly against children, but they stand no chance against Liza and Nana, who have experience fighting ferocious monsters.

After they get raked over the coals, they apologize to the sea lion kids and get sent to the back of the line. Everything is as it should be.

The food distribution finishes without any issue. As a reward to all the children that helped out, we decided to read a picture book to them.

"Satou-san, you can handle the narration and the male voices."

With Sera as my partner, we open the book in front of the excited children.

The one watched the most seriously was actually Liza though.

As usual, she loves listening to these book recitations.

Picture books aren't so different in this world.

I lightly clear my throat.

Once upon a time--.
