I started my day with my normal drug cocktail: Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication; Lexapro, an antidepressant: and most important, my nicotine patch. I couldn't smoke in the office and I spent too much time online to go outside and get my regular nie fix, so this kept me going until lunch hour, and then until the end of the day.
Since one of the side effects of my medications was thirst, I grabbed a botde of water and headed for my desk. I walked rhrough the rows of cubicles that comprised the security wing of CC Corp., until I found my way through the maze to my own office and sat down. Sunlight streamed through the windows.
It still felt surreal, taking over the office of my old boss, Kazushi Watarai. Bur I didn't have time to mourn his departure. It was now my duty and responsibility to handle security.
I put on my FMD, enabled the debug mode, and logged into The World.
It was my battlefield.
