Akashic Records (2)
Within a status, the characteristics and types of skills are diverse.
Some skills made the body stronger, some brought knowledge about the ‘magic’ unknown, and some gave the power to blow a city with just one gesture.
I have studied this diversity continuously, called the flower of reason, until recently.
Thanks to that, I knew about 80% of the existing characteristics and skills, and I wrote numerous papers about it.
Despite that, this was a new experience for me.
A floating body was like a ghost; his body so transparent that I could see right through him.
The ‘Traveler’ was looking around, flicking his tongue.
[Ah, young man.]
“Yes?”
[What is the name of this dimension? Because I just came from Moorim. I couldn’t investigate properly…]
“…”
“I do not know.”
He frowned slightly at my answer.
[You don’t know?]
“… ”
[You must be joking. I came here because I was tired of staying in Mourim, with only stupid things they knew about fighting. You don’t even know the name of the dimension you live in.]
“Uh, well, that…”
[No! How can the users of Akashic Records not know the basics?]
I was just saying it was Seoul.
“It’s only been a short while since I awakened.”
[…]
His face got darker as I answered.
Then, his expression seemed to change.
[… Will you go out of this small place? If I look around, I could guess where this is.]
* * *
I came out of my room for the first time since he appeared.
The hallway was dark, and it was almost impossible to find any cadets walking around.
Nevertheless, the hallway was not quiet. No, it was rather noisy.
[How did you make such a thing with scrap metal? I think this is a very advanced level of technology.]
The ghost-like man was muttering, floating behind me.
He looked around and kept talking.
[Don’t worry, I am a ‘spirit’, brought here by you, so others can’t see me.
[Don’t call me ‘hey’. Call me ‘Traveler’ as the system says.]
[I really don’t know anything about the former Akashic record user.]
I listened to him silently and muttered ‘yes’ in places.
Then he said bluntly,
[You’re a really boring person. Are all of the Akashic record users like this?]
“No. Other people can’t hear you, but they can hear me. Stop talking. Someone might wake up and catch me walking around. ”
[Ah, yes.]
The traveler nodded. He seemed to have understood.
[But what do you do here? I can’t guess because I can’t see anyone else…]
Of course, just because he understood, didn’t mean that he was going to keep quiet.
“I’m a student.”
[A student? You look somewhat young. So is this an educational institution? It hardly seems like an educational facility.]
“It’s different from an ordinary school.”
His expression conveyed that he needed an explanation.
This is Hwayeon Superman Academy. It’s for superhumans.
It teaches about the appearance of monsters in the world, the cracks, and the awakening of mankind.
The traveler looked quite solemn.
[It’s a convoluted world.]
He made a one-line evaluation of our world.
“Yes.”
I also agreed.
“Every day, many people die, lose their homes, lose their families…”
[…]
“The really powerful superhumans who can wipe out the monsters and save everyone, don’t protect anyone but themselves.” It’s like giving a little child a gun …”
This beggar world took everything from me.
“The righteous people have no talent, and all the talented people are driven by greed.
The traveler was floating in the air, looking down at me with a blank expression.
[So many complaints about this world. Why did you come to this Superhuman Academy?]
[You say this educational institution is a place that’s meant for ‘hunters’; for those who want to defend humanity and defeat monsters. Then you also want to become a hunter.]
“Right.”
[But you seem to have no affection for this world. I don’t understand why you want to be a hunter.]
The traveler looked into my eyes.
I stared back at his glassy eyes and replied slowly.
“I’m sorry.”
[…?]
“The monsters destroyed my home and ripped my family to death. All the while, I was hiding, trembling in fear. I couldn’t do anything.
[…]
“So, I decided to break into the crack and kill all the monsters. I knew there was a myriad of people like me, and I want to keep others from suffering the same fate. ”
The emotion made my sight blurry.
“As you said, I have no affection for this world. I just want to be a hunter because I thought it was the best way to achieve what I wanted.”
The traveler listened to me and stared at me without a word.
Then.
[Huh … Haha ha ha ha!]
He suddenly burst into laughter.
[You have a completely different personality from the previous users. No, it’s also a pity that none of the previous users had a character like yours.]
His smiling face looked strangely pleasant.
