Chapter 3

[Reversal of Fiction and Fact]

Laura Simon was on the verge of death. Today marks three days that she has not had so much as a slice of bread to eat, or a drop of water to drink.

The fasting didn't come as part of a new diet plan; it had nothing to do with health or appearance. It was a process as part of a magical ritual. For a week, Laura had tried almost every method known to her to separate the demons of Babel that had ingrained in her mind, to no avail. She lastly resorted to the last available option to her, placing herself in a state of suspended animation.

She would need to be careful, however. Simply entering a state of apparent death would have the demon which imparts the ancient magic [Babel] to detach itself. Once without a host, the demon would return to [Guru's Tablet] and become property of another magician. If she is to keep this ancient magic in the way she desires, she will need to form with it a [Familiar Pact] while in this state of suspended animation.

Fasting reduces one's vitality, and the readiness to form the [Familiar Pact] grinds down one's mental energy. This process exhausted Laura both mentally and physically, her consciousness drifting in and out of reality. her consciousness drifting in and out of reality. Her senses waned until she couldn't see or hear the world around her anymore. Her mind was now in a vision.

In a liminal world, covered in a gray haze, bathed in twilight.

Under this new illusionary landscape, she finally came face to face with a demon created by the ancient magical civilization.

"Laura, how do you feel?"

"My Lord..." She opened her eyes and saw Dean looking down at her as she lay in bed. As soon as she realized this, Laura rushed her body into a seated position.

She was stopped from doing so by Dean's hand. Her body, in its weakened state, was unable to resist his arms and fell back to the bed.

"...My apologies for the trouble I must have caused you, My Lord." On her movement to get up, she soon noticed the IV placed on her. Laura realized that she must have misjudged her limits.

"Don't worry about it. It wasn't me on the nurse call." When Dean told Laura this, she noticed the figure standing by on the other side of the bed. A young woman of oriental descent, could she be the one he's referencing? A nurse, or perhaps a female doctor. "Master Zhu made the arrangements for the treatment. Make sure you give your thanks to him the next time you meet him."

The man Dean refers to as Master Zhu is an overseas Chinese merchant from the West Coast and a senior figure in the U.S. Hongmen. This safe house they currently occupy was also arranged by Zhu Yuen Yun.

"Of course, sir. Be sure I will."

"Now, what about that magic? Did it work out?"

"Yes, it did. If you don't mind, My Lord..."

"Of course, tell me the details tomorrow. Get some rest right now."

Whatever it was that Laura was about to bring up, Dean cut her short and ordered her to go back to sleep.

"...As you wish, sir." To which she, aware herself of her weakened state, obediently complied.

Vancouver, shortly before noon, local time, September 7.

"Lena, remember the white stone tablets unearthed from Mt. Shasta?" Charlotte Gagnon, FEHR's advisor, brought up the subject to Lena Fehr, the organization's leader.

"I wouldn't be able to forget it, even if I wanted to," she answered in a grumbling voice that was rather unusual to her.

The sentiment was mostly justified by the fact that the object and the events it brought about wasted the first half of the previous month for her. More specifically when a federal officer dragged her to the IPU as a cover to infiltrate, and kept her there until that officer was sent back to USNA. As far as Lena was concerned, she would very much like to sum it up as "being kidnapped and held in captivity in a foreign country."

"I heard that tablet hid a map on it."

"It sure did. It was just the reason to hold me on the IPU for those two weeks." Lena looked as if she was about to puff her cheeks at any moment. Granted her apparent age, the gesture might come off as overly childish, given her actual age. Still, it suited her overall innocent demeanor better than one might expect.

"Oh, but I'm not referring to the map for Central Asia. It would seem that there is another kind of map, pointing to an archaeological site near Mt. Shasta."

The pout now made his full presence known on Lena's face as she asked back, sounding not so convinced, "Near Mt. Shasta, you say...? Now who came up with that idea?"

"I do not know the source of the rumors, mostly that they say how the contents of the stone tablets cannot be understood by people who do not know of their existence."

"...Like a cipher?"

"Not quite. According to the rumors, 'The white tablet holds 2 maps. One points to a treasure beyond the sea, the other leads to one buried near this mountain.'"

Gagnon's explanation served to only add to Lena's increasingly doubtful look. "By 'this mountain' it should be fair to assume it is talking about Mt. Shasta... And, if that rumor has any truth to it, it certainly sounds like it means what you said..." After a brief tilt of the head in puzzlement, Lena shook her head a couple of times in a broad gesture. "So where is that so special tablet right now?"

"It is supposed to be under the custody of the San Francisco Police Department as evidence," Gagnon replied, unaware of the still undisclosed to the public theft of the "Map tablet" from the evidence storage facility.

"So we can't really confirm if there is really a map hidden in the tablet. Interesting rumor, but it'll remain just that since we can't do anything about it,” Lena closed with a resigned look on her face. "...Actually, no. I still don't think we should just leave it at that." Shortly before taking back her words in a full 180.

Lena's eyes flashed with a dim golden light. The color suggests a response from her "power".

"Did you feel something?" Noticing the change, Gagnon asked in a fitting low voice.

Though Lena herself denies herself as some sort of precognition, Gagnon is convinced that Lena in some way has glimpses of the future. If not to call precognition, then there was no better word to describe it than "prophecy."

Being able to hear whispers of the future from an existence that transcends human knowledge. What better ability than that for a person with the alias "Saint Lena"? ─Even if the person in question denies that designation also.

"I can't place my finger on it, but I have a feeling that if we let this rumor go unchecked, it will lead to a great disaster."

"So, what is your plan?" The organization’s advisor readied herself for the incoming instructions.

"Let's send a team to survey Mt. Shasta. I'll join them this time." The words were just spoken and Lena turned to the extension phone and pressed a button, saying, "This is Lena. If you wouldn't mind, Ryousuke, Louis, could you two meet me in my office whenever you are available?"

Less than a minute after she released the button, after only a few dozen seconds, there was a knock at the door of her room followed by the line, "This is Ryousuke. May I come in?"

Lena and Gagnon exchanged looks. Even if this building was not that extensive, his arrival came too quickly. Almost as if he had been waiting for Lena's call to come at any moment.

"Yes, feel free to come in," at her permission the door swung open vigorously, yet with surprisingly little noise.

Ryousuke walked in with a peculiar gait, which, from the outside it seemed as if he could barely contain his legs from leaping forward in excitement, until he was standing in front of Lena.

"I have come at your call, Milady. Ryousuke at your service."

"You're looking a bit more... knightly as usual today, haha." Today you are looking even more ...... well, dated." Lena was clearly taken aback by what she saw.

"Almost like our own Don Quixote..." Charlotte commented from the sidelines.

The remarks were all but lost on Ryousuke, both because he didn't understand the underlying meaning behind Gagnon's, and because nothing Lena could say would shake his diamond solid allegiance to her.

"Well... Would you please have a seat? I'll explain why I called you both here when Louis arrives." Her instruction was answered with an "Understood" from Ryousuke, who then brought a chair by the wall to sit on it.

About two minutes after Ryousuke, Louis Roux arrived at a reasonably short notice.

Gagnon first brought the discussed rumors to the attention of Ryousuke and Louis. Lena then asked both of their opinions on this matter given their previous expedition on Mt. Shasta.

"Please, allow me to accompany you!" What Ryousuke offered was not much of an opinion, however.

Charlotte didn't even bother to cover a sigh.

"...I agree with your opinion, Milady, we should act on this matter. If you feel like it's necessary for you to participate, then I'd like to suggest that you have me, Ryousuke, as well as Miss Shastri to join this expedition." Unlike Ryousuke, Louis opted to offer a concrete opinion.

"You're suggesting bringing Arya as well?"

"She is by herself strong, and, unlike me and Ryousuke, also a woman."

"I see your point. Lena will need an escort" Gagnon backs up Louis's proposal, turning to Lena.

"...Alright. I'll confirm with Arya if she's available. Now, lastly..."

"...Alright. I'll confirm with Arya if she's available. Now, lastly..." Lena stopped to think, it didn't last more than a moment. "Charley, could you please contact that PI, Ms. Fields, I believe, from the other day, and ask if she would be willing to work with us again?" "Got it." Gagnon stood up as soon as she replied and walked out of the office.

Ryousuke and Louis exited soon after.

"I hope that was just my imagination..."

Now alone, Lena muttered, oblivious of the soliloquy

◇◇◇

Concurrently to the discussion taking place in Lena's office in Vancouver.

At the Richmond retreat, Laura was briefing Dean about the week's results.

"...So, in other words, you succeeded in isolating [Babel]?"

"Yes, My Lord. The [Babel] demon has been encased in this stone.

Laura brushes back her hair, showing her left ear.

There, looking like an inner piercing, was a large bloodstone. It was simply similar to an inner conch, it wasn't attached by a clasp or a shaft, the bloodstone was directly adhered to the skin of the ear.

"It takes approximately five minutes for the demon to awaken, but once it is, the spell can be performed with a brief incantation. But, considering its application, it shouldn't be a problem."

"I see. Well done."

"I'm truly flattered by your praise."

Dean showed a smile of appreciation, and Laura bowed her head reverently.

The nurse assigned by Zhu Yuen Yun has left as of last night. At present, Dean and Laura are the only two people in the safe house, as such, meals and any eventual teatime is the responsibility of Laura.

"It has been a while since you brewed me coffee." Not longer have passed since her near-death experience, yet Laura made breakfast for the two of them this morning, albeit an easy to prepare meal.

The sweets on the table accompanying the coffee Dean is currently sipping, both were arranged by the same pair of hands. While Dean could very much prepare breakfast, the same couldn't be said for this particular coffee, the role of barista had to fall to Laura.

Laura asked as she sat across from Dean, "Have the circumstances changed over the past week?"

"Not particularly, no."

"I see..."Laura sipped her coffee, looking not so much dejected as slightly bored.

This particular brew had the addition of some "witch's herbs" to it. A drink of it was what one needed to dispel exhaustion and renew one's vigor, or in other ─magical─ terms, to help restore one's "magic power". For Laura, it was less a matter of enjoying a luxury and more a matter of practicality.

"I say that, but there was one interesting rumor."

"A rumor, sir? Of what kind?"

"Of the kind that says the capital of the advanced ancient civilization of Lemuria is buried beneath Mount Shasta." It was heavily implied, by the sarcasm in his tone and smile, that Dean didn't give these rumors the benefit of the doubt. "Apparently a guide map to the capital was unearthed this year at the foot of Mount Shasta."

"A guide map... a map, you say, sir?"

"This 'guide map' is obviously the white stone tablet. I'm sure this must be a rumor the FBI or the state police have been spreading to lure us out. Just nonsense. What's next, the Mu continent? Atlantis aside, these days everyone knows those are all made up. Like I would be caught in such a dumb trap."

Dean kept on with his mockery, unaware of the serious expression on Laura's face as she pondered the matter.

"If you allow me a moment, my Lord."

"What, Laura? You aren't saying you believe in that, will you? That's all I can say about it myself. These rumors have started to circulate just recently."

"No, of course I don't believe there is a Lemurian capital hidden anywhere. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that there are ruins related to magic buried in Mt. Shasta range."

"...What's your basis for that?" Dean's skeptical expression decreased to the point where now he was halfway from convinced.

"When I made the familiar pact with the demon, I had very brief insight into the residual thoughts of the creator of the 'Guru's Tablet.'"

"Hm, residual thoughts, huh. I'm not sure about that. But I'll give the benefit of the doubt, if it's you saying. So, what did you find out?" Instead of persisting with a know-it-all attitude, Dean urged Laura on, while still maintaining some pretense of grandiosity.

"The demon held on to the regret the creator of the tablet felt."

"Regret, you say."

"Yes, they felt regret about having to hide the tablet they've just made without being able to use it in battle."

"...Wait a minute there." Laura's report on her findings was unexpectedly more insightful, requiring Dean to take a moment to sort through it. "Was the table creator fighting against something?"

"That's how it felt. I'm not sure against who, but they were in some sort of war."

"So the 'Guru's Tablet' was created to be a weapon from the start?"

"Strictly speaking, [Babel] was. The tablet was just the means to transmit it to the magicians who would use it in battle."

"Hm..." The information came as a surprise to Dean, but he quickly remembered how he, too, had always thought of the 'Guru Tablet', and by extension [Babel], as nothing more than a weapon. The fact that it was always supposed to be a weapon was still somewhat unexpected, but he soon reconsidered also, it was not that surprising. "...You said the tablet had to be buried, hidden, before it could be used in battle, right?"

"That's what seemed to be the case. That leads me to believe that the place where that tablet was made is not that far from where it was buried." Dean's eyes lit up at this point.

"So the ruins of the workshop is what you're trying to say."

"Precisely, sir."

"If it exists, then isn't it possible that we can find there unfinished, and even finished

Relics."

"That is quite plausible."

"I see now..." He paused in silent contemplation for at least a minute. "..So you're saying that rumor wasn't total bullshit?" Dean muttered, a tad loud for a soliloquy.

Judging that the question wasn't directed at her, Laura waited to hear what he would say next.

"Laura, go make sure there isn't a map hiding on the stone tablets of the area around Mt.

Shasta."

Laura had already discovered that the sixteen stone slabs could be put together to form what appeared to be a map, but couldn't tell where it showed. If it did map out the region of the Mt. Shasta, it didn't have a topography she could see with her eyes alone. If the rumored map existed, Laura wasn't able to tell at the time.

For Laura, what she was just given was, in a sense, an order that called her own abilities into question. But she showed no signs of discontent and politely bowed her head in reply, "Yes, My Lord."

◇◇◇

Morning of September 8th. Tatsuya made a visit to Yotsuba's main house.

His schedule would have him arriving at Miyakishima for work instead, an unexpected phone call summoning him here while he was still at home in Chofu threw a wrench in his plans.

He altered the VTOL's route to take him to the family-owned heliport in Kobuchizawa. Once there, he took the secret underground passageway that led directly to the Yotsuba family's village, eventually arriving at the main house shortly before 9:00 a.m.

"Tatsuya-san, have you heard of a rumor that has been recently running through magic related circles on the West Coast of the USNA?" After a brief initial exchange, Maya brought up the subject that brought him here. "Actually, it would be better to say 'in occult related' ones."

"So.., a rumor circulating around occult circles?" Tatsuya asked back inquisitively. It was his polite way of asking "and what does this have to do with dragging me here?"

The terms couldn't be more distanced from each other as they are today. As general magic theoretical studies and empirical research advanced, the word "magic" became less associated with "occult" in the zeitgeist.

"Yes, indeed. This rumor didn't seem to catch on with the more serious magical research groups."

"What does it say?"

Although Tatsuya was together with those groups with no interest in occultism, he didn't share the same prejudice against it. But if it was the reason Maya dragged him here, this rumor had to do with something Tatsuya particularly would be interested in.

"Hm, how should I put it? It suggests the ruins of the advanced Lemurian civilization are located on Mt. Shasta."

"Ancient ruins on Mt. Shasta, you say..." Tatsuya could't help muttering to himself.

"Tatsuya-san, you wouldn't happen to have leaked information, would you?"

Now it was clear to Tatsuya the reason he was abruptly summoned to the main house.

"I haven't. All I passed on to the USNA was that Laura Simons fled Japan and returned to the States with [Babel]."

"I expected as much... I was positive you weren't involved in this rumor, but you can understand some alarm was warranted ,agree the alarm was warranted in some fashion."

Tatsuya gave a silent small bow. A gesture of thanks for the vote of confidence, regardless of how weird it felt to receive it at that point.

"However, even with this matter resolved, we still face a troubling situation..." said Maya, letting out a soft sigh.

"Agreed." Tatsuya followed suit in a similar tone, though he did not sigh.

"There is no shortage of gullible people around for one or two to take the rumor to heart and set about digging. And we can't be entirely sure they won't run across a ruin in the process." While Maya raised the risk of someone "running across" the ruins of Shambhala, she didn't appear to be as seriously "troubled" with the situation as she suggested.

"I wish we could remain so carefree with this new development." With a furrowed brow, Tatsuya regarded the situation with more seriousness than Maya. "Albeit a rough estimate, the UNSA military was still able to pinpoint the location of the ruins to Uzbekistan by analyzing the white stone tablets. And for them to send a Stars to investigate, we can be confident that they take the existence of Shambala very seriously."

"Do you believe their military will send a survey team to scour Mt. Shasta for ruins with this rumor?"

"For sure they will. And not just them. FAIR was the one who found the 'Guru's Tablet' in an nameless cave on the mountain. I wouldn't bet against the possibility that they might succeed in finding another ruin."

Tatsuya may be able to see information of any target he defines, but there is the catch: he needs a defined target. He cannot automatically gather any information he wishes based on vague ideas. His "Elemental Sight" ─Eye of the Spirits─ is not a "Eye of the Gods." In the same way he is not omnipotent, Tatsuya is by no means omniscient.

As such, he wouldn't know about it, as he didn’t know that:

●That the rumor was started by the Stars.

● The "Map Tablet" is now in the hands of FAIR.

What he could tell, however, regardless of what movements were underway outside his view, was the sense of impending danger. And that was a product of his natural intuition. Which coincided with Maya's in that regard.

"...Tatsuya-san. Do you think it'll be necessary to fly there?"

"At the very least sending Minoru is warranted. It pains me to say this, but we can't rely on local agents alone."

"Fufufu, that's all right. At least you aren't being insincere." Maya chuckled, Tatsuya kept his poker face. "If it were up to me, I would permit right away, but I'm afraid I'll still need to seek His Excellency Toudou's blessing." A tinge of discomfort could be seen mingled with Maya's smile. The prospect of persuading Toudou appeared to be quite a challenge for her.

"Oba-ue. If you'd allow me, I would like to bring this matter to His Excellency's attention myself first."

"You want to...?" Maya exchanged looks with Hayama.

Since Tatsuya did not know of Hayama's status as an agent of the Senate, the meaning was lost on him. He took the gesture as a sign to confirm one's own bewilderment by looking at another person.

"...And how do you intend on addressing that?"

Before even going about asking his permission, there was the preceding ordeal of getting an audience with the person himself. Maya had never spoken with Tatsuya about how to contact Toudou to begin the process.

"I was considering asking my master, Kokonoe Yakumo, to set up a meeting," so was Tatsuya's response to Maya's worried question.

◇◇◇

"─So, I'll be visiting my master."

Back home before noon, Tatsuya recounted to Miyuki his conversation with Maya, who was waiting for him with a worried look on her face.

"Hyougo-san. Please cancel all my appointments for today," then ordered his personal butler to solve the issue with his schedule.

To which Hyougo appropriately answered, "As you wish, sir," and proceeded to the communications room.

Miyuki was not so easy to budge, she had Tatsuya wait as she went off to prepare lunch.

The noon time news reported on the offensive and defensive exchanges between the allied forces of the IPU and the Tibetan Orthodox Government against the GAU forces on the border area of the Darjeeling region.

"Tibetan Government forces aren't taking part in the battle?" Miyuki asked as she sat down at the table after arranging the food on the table.

Tatsuya, whose head bobbed between bites, stopped eating to answer, "The current Tibetan government only has enough forces to secure the capital against any possible insurgency. The GAU only allow them to have this much of their own."

Tatsuya information didn't come from any official media channel. It was simply information that anyone with a passing interest in international military affairs could learn with little research.

"The IPU is being really conservative. You'd expect them to press on more aggressively. I was expecting they would reach Lhasa with a blitzkrieg right after or even earlier than the declaration of war." The observation came from a frequent visitor at mealtime, who came to enjoy the food Miyuki had prepared.

"They're probably acting out of concern with the effects in the international community." Tatsuya shared the same opinion with Lina that they've been "extremely cautious."

"By the way, Tatsuya, will it be all right to leave this war going on as it is? Wouldn't it be bad if they start searching in the basement of the Potala Palace?"

Lina's question brought a small but noticeable frown to Tatsuya's face.

"If only we knew at the time that there were actually important ruins beneath the place." Even though she didn't know what was going through Tatsuya's mind beneath that expression, there was still a touch of sympathy in her words.

Tatsuya himself suggested to his new local acquaintance, General Lars Singh, that he suspected a large number of were stored under the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, as a means of diverting their attention while they searched for ruins in Bukhara.

The chief over the IPU operation in Tibet is that same General Singh. It was very clear that Tatsuya's words had a clear impact over the IPU's decision to take this military action.

"I don't believe the IPU will go so far as to make any extreme attempt, such as destroying the Potala Palace to dig up the hill on which the palace stands. That said, we can only hope that the keeper has some way of concealing the ruins…" Tatsuya's tone came across as particularly bitter as he responded to Lina's question. It was made evident he seriously regretted his careless words and actions in the matter.

◇◇◇

Tatsuya phoned Yakumo immediately after lunch, who graciously agreed to Tatsuya's "I'd like an audience" request.

Unlike the previous visit with a similar objective, there was no Yakumo personally standing in his way on the steps leading up to the temple gate. Without ordeal, Tatsuya was guided by one of his disciples to a secluded room in the main temple hall where he encountered Yakumo.

Once he apologized for the suddenness of his visit, Tatsuya thanked Yakumo for taking the time to meet with him.

Yakumo received Tatsuya with a smile, and then asked what he wanted to ask of him. Yakumo saw right through him before he even could say anything. "As usual," Tatsuya thought, choosing not to worry about it.

"So you want an audience with His Excellency Toudou, hm...?"

Yakumo fixes a probing eye on Tatsuya.

"May I inquire on which business?"

"I'd like to request that the international travel embargo be lifted."

"On what grounds?" Yakumo paid no regard to the matter of Toudou barring Tatsuya from leaving the country; that was a well known fact for him.

"...Since it's you asking, Master, I'll gladly share with you. But, as you might already expect..."

"To not share what you tell me with my neighbors. You don't need to preach to the choir, my friend."

Ordinarily, this sort of light and casual undertone would only stir up uneasiness. But Tatsuya was already familiar with Yakumo's general approach. Yakumo is currently in a position where he holds all the cards, as long as Tatsuya is the one making an one sided request, he wouldn't be losing anything by sitting and listening, while Tatsuya couldn't very much afford to hold back and not answer his questions.

"Have you ever heard about a mountain called Shasta on the West Coast of the USNA?"

"Oh, indeed. It's a 4,000-meter volcano that's considered sacred by the indigenous peoples, if I recall correctly. And it is also said to have many hidden treasures we would love to find."

"...I apologize for asking, but since when have these rumors been around?"

"Hm? Since when, you ask. Way back, I'm sure. I have only known of it for about 20 years or so. Why do you ask?" Sensing the unhidden sense of impatience in Tatsuya's question, Yakumo's expression turned quizzical.

"I asked because, in fact, there has been a recent rumor about it circulating that is related to matters that concern me." The air of impatience surrounding Tatsuya seemed to clear in Yakumo's eyes.

Yakumo urged him to continue with his gaze.

The brief pause before this statement reflected Tatsuya's hesitancy. "─Buried on Mt.Shasta are ruins of Shambala, where there are magic artifacts as dangerous as a strategic nuclear weapon. I therefore need to travel to the USNA in order to seal it." "Shambala, this child is saying? Hm... So you discovered the ruins of Shambala?" There was no suggestion of skepticism on Yakumo's part, even when the word "Shambhala" was brought up. On that note, Tatsuya was the one surprised of the two.

"...So, would I be correct in assuming that you knew Shambhala was real, Master?"

"I didn't know where it was, though. The fact that a place called Shambhala existed once, I never doubted."

Yakumo’s curiosity was laid bare. Now that he mentioned it, it seemed like Tatsuya wouldn't get anywhere until he satisfied his curiosity.

He explained then that Shambhala was a complex of shelters kept and used by mageists to escape the harsh environment of the Ice Age.

"An utopia maintained by magic."

"That said, I won't claim that this is the definite truth. This was conjecture based on the information left behind at the ruins."

"I don't think your interpretation is incorrect."

Yakumo grunted lightly as he pondered over something in front of Tatsuya, who gave a small bow of the head.

"So, enough magical knowledge to build city-sized shelters... I already see the eyes of our esteemed members of the Senate sparking at the carrot being dangled in front of them." Yakumo permitted himself a lone chuckle after making the impertinent metaphor. "Incidentally, How did you discover that there were ruins of Shambala on Mt.Shasta?"

"I found clues in the underground of the Potala Palace."

"You say the Potala Palace, that one in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet? So all those rumors about it had some truth to them. In that case, then..." Yakumo said before going back into thinkering mode.

Noticing that he was taking a long time to come back around this time, Tatsuya called out a brief, "Master," to get his attention.

"...Oh. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Right, I understand."

"Then?"

"I'll confer with His Excellency on his availability. Given the nature of the matter, I don't expect you'll have to wait that long."

"Thank you very much."

Yakumo's response sounded to be mostly acquiescence, but Tatsuya did not doubt his words.
