ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 333 Part 2
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 333: I Whisper to You with a Craving in My Voice Part 2

「Oh my! Fufufu, if Sanraku-sama says so, it certainly must be that way!」

Nuooohhh!!! The trauma! My trauma is coming back! Even though it was nothing at all, just some mere words, it was enough for my trauma to resurface!!! …… Alright! Calm down! Calm down, me! Positive thoughts! Switch your thought so something else and don’t think about the trauma!

「Say, Emul……? Don’t you think that it is extremely easy to confuse intelligence with genuine arrogance in this world?」

「I think that every time you start asking such difficult questions, Sanraku-san, it means that you are thinking about something really stupid or something totally unrelated to the subject. There is no middle ground with you.」

You understand me so well, I’m truly touched……

I knew it when I started this quest, but since the in-game time was going according the real world time, it was impossible for Tottori and I to clear this quest in the span of one night.

After a continuous streak of several log outs and short naps, this was starting to really take its toll on me. However, even in the face of those harsh conditions, Tottori was having nothing but praise for me, saying that we were going at an “astonishingly” fast pace. Thanks to that, a day have passed, and then the day after that day, when we were finally able to see the object of our journey. It was still relatively far away, but at least we could see it.

「I see…… A natural barrier made out of vines of ivy that look like a spider’s web and thorns that look like a barbed wire……」

At least there are some good news about it: a barrier like that can prevent both small monsters like those raptors, but also the large ones like that tri-headed Tyrannosaurus Rex from getting inside. So you can just sit behind the barrier and snipe everything that tries to come close with a bow from afar. Perfect defensive strategy. …… But if it would really be like that, then why would the past People of the Forest need to escape in the first place?

Were they attacked from above? Could it have been a monster such as that Draculus Dinocoatl? But would they really have no means of anti-air combat? Somehow, I was not convinced here.

「Wouldn’t this here be a perfect defensive facility? Just add a moat all around it and place some wooden pikes at the bottom and you would be all set.」

「T-This place is definitely the residence of our Ancestors: Tier Platen……! For us People of the Forest, this place is like our place of origin!」

Perhaps everyone were so engrossed in the sight before us that they have lost their attention to surroundings. There was something caught in the natural barrier, and secreting something wet and sticky from all over its body.

Kuh, that’s surprisingly hard. Could it be that this ivy has some sort of natural resistance to damage? Kuh, in that case, none of my blades would do anything good when trying to cut those thick vines apart.

「Emul, lend me a hand here.」

「Sure thing!」

How about a non-material magic attack!? That way it should go through and not get caught, right!? …… But lo and behold, the magic attack crushed against the vines and got absorbed! What the fuck is this!? I mean, are you for real here!?

「Hey, Sanraku! I think we can traverse through those vines if we were to go through the top of the trees.」

「I know, but climbing up a tree that is as tall as a sequoia tree? Hmm, I see…… how about a rope ladder, then?」

Would that be alright? Would it not stick? I surely hope so that it would not stick to the vines.

The rope ladder turned out to be an excellent idea here. There was a problem if the King would have been able to climb it, judging his physique and old age, but that problem solved itself out faster than anyone could expect it. All it took was some pity and help from the People of the Forest and the king managed to do just fine in no time.

As for me, I walked on the tree branches. The trees here were tall and thick, so naturally their branches were thick and sturdy as well. I could walk on top of them without issue. I only needed to watch out so that I would not lose my balance and fall down.

「–––– Hoo? Now what do we have here……?」

What is this sight that revealed itself after you brushed all the branches and leaves aside?

The shape of the map here was the same as in Thirdrema or Lulilas, with the houses lined up in a circle on the plateau-like ground. It was actually leaking that “the facility in the center of the map is the most important place out here” energy. I wonder, is that some sort of a fetish on the designer’s end?

That place was certainly different from the rest of the wooden huts in this village…… aside from that, this place looks like a small, wooden Western-style village from the Middle Ages. But I guess it was really hard to call this place a village now. First order of things, we should make sure that there are no monsters around here and build some makeshift houses just in case.

「Desolation and devastation really bare on what compromises they had to go when building this place……」

「I can’t see any fields around here…… Were they hunting for food and provisions?」

I always thought that the People of the Forest lack courage the most, but I see I was wrong. What they lack here is most certainly “civilization”. Before obtaining courage, those guys need to learn how to fortify their settlements, otherwise we might have a problem here.

「Maybe the purpose of this place was other than the other settlements? I would certainly seem that way to me……」

Tottori muttered something like that, and I must say that I agree. But whatever the purpose of this place was, it was most certainly over right now. I don’t know how long ago those Elven ancestors fled this place, but living here would certainly be pretty impossible as it is now.

But still, there is that one builder player out there……. E-miria, was it? If only we could supply this place with steady flow of resources, this place might actually become a second base for the players……

「–––– I wanted to see you so badly.」

Just now, “that voice” seemed to have hit something directly inside of my brain, causing it to recognize something.

「…………!!!???」

Zuwawawawawah! I could feel my whole body stiffen in an instant. So that’s the power of having malicious words whispered right into your ear completely out of the blue like that, huh?

「You……!!」

「I wanted to see you…… All this time…… Do you have any idea how long I’ve been searching for you?」

That voice was one of the things that thoughout my life managed to imprint themselves firmly inside of my brain.

It was not about the “voice” per se, but rather the fact to who exactly that voice belonged to. A voice that would send chills running down my spine, belonging to a woman who was now standing right in front of me, wearing a broad and disturbing smile on her face.

「…… Nutcracker……!!!」

「It’s nice that you remember me, but right now I am known as Deepslaughter, my dear Sanraku-kun…… Ufufufufufufufu!」

Deep…… Slaughter……? Ah, yes, yes, I get it! That’s a pun, huh? Shame that this is such a lame pun and coming from such a rotten person!
