The Twelve Primary Meridians – Chapter 441 Companion

Many readers are aware, at least in part, of the meridians of the human body. Chinese medicine posits that there are 12 primary meridians – six ‘zang’ channels, and six ‘fu’ channels. There are more than that, but for my purposes I’ll stick with the twelve.

Meridians in the body are separated in to yin and yang. The ‘Zang’ organs are counted as yin, and they are the Heart, Lung, Spleen, Pericardium, Heart, Liver, and Kidneys. The ‘fu’ organs are considered yang, and they are the Large Intestine, Small Intestine, Stomach, Gallbladder, and San Jiao (the three cavities of the torso).

Each one of these meridians have a specific function that pertains to their element, but we’re going to focus on their yin and yang aspects only...
