Interlude | The Goddess’s Guidance and a Fated Encounter

In an alabaster room, a goddess wreathed in white sat down with a blank expression.

She looked like a doll, appearing inhuman and emotionless. Her persona didn’t at all resemble the energetic and playful attitude she’d assumed when meeting with that other world’s greatest assassin. That’d been nothing more than a personality simulation deemed most likely to put the assassin at ease.

The goddess was nothing more than a tool designed to watch over and protect worlds.

You could see her as a cold, cruel realist, but those words didn’t accurately get at the heart of what the goddess really was. In truth, she was but a simple mechanism. Possessed of no emotion, she only pretended to have such feelings when the circumstances demanded it.

“An intervention in fate. Aid to Lugh Tuatha Dé successful,” whispered the goddess in a dispassionate voice.

The assassin currently named Lugh Tuatha Dé had a very difficult mission.

His current odds of success were only 8 percent at best. That’s why she was giving him extra support.

Even with the goddess’s level of authority, however, there was a limit to how much she could intervene. If she had the ability, she would’ve directly removed the hero herself.

She didn’t have the ability to increase her number of pieces, nor could she alter them in any way. Instead, she was focusing all her efforts on guiding her existing pieces down the right path.

If you wanted to put it in romantic terms, you could say she was setting up fated encounters.

Whether Lugh noticed these encounters or was able to take advantage of them was up to him.

“Depletion of Lugh Tuatha Dé’s assigned support confirmed. Demanding additional resources… Dismissal of request by superior being confirmed. Grant of additional resources is dependent on the achievements of Lugh Tuatha Dé. Leaving this matter for now. Beginning phase two.”

The goddess had hopes for Lugh Tuatha Dé, but she couldn’t trust him.

He was nothing more than the piece that currently had the highest odds of saving the world.

Knowing this, the goddess was already moving on to the next piece. As long as the world was saved, it didn’t matter which piece got the job done.

The goddess, robotic and emotionless as ever, continued to observe the world.

Illig was sleeping in this morning.

… Apparently, his real name was Lugh.

Certain circumstances had led to him pretending to be a person named Illig.

I loved watching him sleep.

While awake, he was handsome, kind, always on guard, and a perfect person in every way, but while sleeping, he just looked like a sweet, innocent young boy.

I asked if I could sleep in his bed because I was lonely, but that was just an excuse.

I just wanted to be with him so I could see his cute, sleeping face up close.

“Dear brother, would you wake if I kissed you?”

I really wanted to try, but I didn’t have the courage.

Illig was like a father, a brother, and a teacher to me. He’d given me so much affection, and I could never thank him enough for that.

I wished he would see Tarte and me as members of the opposite sex, though…

The reason he wouldn’t was because he already had his heart set on someone else.

It was frustrating.

If I’d met him sooner, perhaps I could’ve been the apple of his eye instead.

I wasn’t going to give up, though. I still had time. The human heart is fickle.

Right now, the girl named Dia was the object of his desire, but that was only for the moment. Who could say what would happen in the future?

“Maybe I should get a little sleep, too.”

Watching Illig’s cute sleeping face made me sleepy.

It was cold outside, just like it’d been on the day I first met Illig.
