Translator's Notes and References 
1 A 10ft by 10ft shrine at the Shin-Yakushi-ji temple. 
2 Two things here. First, East Asian folklore has a story about a rabbit living on the moon. Second, the yatagarasu is associated with the sun. 
3 He addresses Akino as such in Volume 12. 
4 I believe Amami is referencing the fact that he's supposed to be officially dead. 
5 Childishly bad-tempered. The Chinese translation has 'tsundere' here, but I doubt this is the correct term. 
6 In the original text, the term means something like 'white-haired-at-a-young-age', but I left half of this out since it's way too long. 
7 I do not see where Ohtomo says this in the text. Not sure what's up with that. 
8 Not Kyouko, Miyo, or Genji. 

9 Both are pronounced Seimei (I think?), but are obviously different. 
10 The moment at dusk when the sky grows dark. Supposedly, this is when evil spirits attempt to enter the world.

14 Japanese name for Vaisravana, the chief of the Four Heavenly Kings in Buddhism.
