Our only hope to defeat Cain, Claire, was gone. The ice sword that she left, pierced deep in the ground, generating an ice barrier that protects everyone except me and Cain. That was the last parting gift Claire left for us. She created an environment where I could concentrate on defeating the enemy before me without a need to pay attention to protecting the others.
Claire said ‘I entrust it to you’. Because now that she is gone, the only one who could possibly defeat Cain is me.
But how could I win against him? Cain is more powerful than Ifrit, which made me unable to see any chance of winning. No, that’s wrong. Think, Rin. I have to keep finding a way to overcome this powerful enemy.
Thus, to buy some time, so I could think about a plan, I asked Cain.
“…. Why was the transfer magic not activated on us?”
“Haven’t I said it earlier? This me, who is an administrator, has overwritten a part of this dungeon’s mechanism.”
“You also said that the dungeon was something that was created by God. Could such a thing really be controlled as you wished by using the ‘administrator authority’ that you said?”
“Naturally, I couldn’t control everything. Even for the transfer magic, all I could do was overwrite a part of its original mechanism which said that after the dungeon boss is defeated, everyone in the boss room will be removed, and the room will be restored to its original state.”
“…..”
“And as a result, the previous phenomenon occurred. Once the new system is established, it can’t be changed anymore. In other words, if you ants want to return to the surface, you have no choice but to defeat me, who is the administrator of this dungeon and destroy the dungeon itself.”
When Cain dies, the dungeon would disappear. In other words, an administrator is an existence akin to the last boss that appeared when dungeon collapse occurred. Although the fact that there is a way to return to the surface does give us some hope… the problem is that it’s nearly impossible to achieve. And even though I have been racking my brains, thinking of a plan to defeat him while we were having a conversation, I couldn’t think of any.
And our despair doesn’t end there.
“…hiss, this is!”
Suddenly, the dent in the ground, the burned flowers, the evaporated ponds, and the shattered ceiling– everything was restored one after another. This is the first time I see the sight of a boss room returning to its original appearance. A few seconds later, the same sight as when we entered here for the first time spread before us.
This means, the dozens of flames that illuminate the palace have also been returned. And when those flames gather in one place, they will once again transform into the fire monster–Ifrit.
“…. This is a lie, right?”
A situation where despair is piled up on top of despair. Looking at me, who was at a loss for words, Cain laughed mockingly.
“Too bad for you, inferior. It seems you have been trying to buy some time but, I already knew that from the beginning and was purposely going along with it.”
