Chapter 14, Desperate Situation (Part 1)

They did not know how long they were in the cart for, but it finally came to a stop. “Come, brethren! Bring the food to the warehouse!” While yelling at a small group of lackeys, the deputy gestured to Heixiong and Dulang, telling them to bring the two sacks containing Lady Bao’er and Tao’er to the stronghold.

The deputy continued up the mountain with Heixiong and Dulang who were carrying up the sacks, and soon, a large group of people came to greet them from the mountain.

“Big brother, third brother, we’re back!” The deputy happily greeted the boss, Hu Dahai, and third-in-command, Wang Ze, who were at the front.

“Good work out there, second brother! What kind of goodies have you got in there that you had to trouble these two to haul up the mountain?” While saying that, he reached out to open the sacks Heixiong and Dulang had set down at their feet.

“What?! It’s two ladies! What are you doing, second brother? There’s nothing I hate more than women in my life, and you know this!” The big boss Hu Dahai had once suffered in the hands of a beautiful lady, causing his family to be thrown into ruins and nearly even lost his life as well. So, he really hated women down to the very marrow of his bones, especially pretty women!

The deputy quickly explained, “Big brother, you’ve misunderstood! These are the hostages we kidnapped from under the mountain! We stole away a large number of tributes last time, but most of them were precious treasure and it’s hard to get rid of them so quickly. But our hundreds of brothers in the stronghold still need food to eat…”

The third-in-command, Wang Ze, who was standing beside the big boss didn’t look like a ruffian no matter how he looked at him. Instead, he looked like a weak weathered scholar burning decades of his life away to make a name for himself in the scholarly world. He put away his folding fan and wrinkled his delicate eyebrows, saying to the deputy, “Second brother, it’s not that I want to nag you, but you really have been too reckless this time. The courts have already ordered our annihilation and that was how we came to temporarily settle here in this tall and dangerous Shizi Mountain. And now you kidnapped two noble ladies? Are you not afraid of exposing ourselves and dragging our brethren down with you?!”

“Third brother is right! Come, mince up these two ladies and throw them down the cliff to get rid of the evidence!” The boss ruthlessly ordered.

The deputy opposed his idea in dissatisfaction. “No! We can’t just say no when these two little morsels sent themselves to our mouths! This is good business. You’re being way too cautious, third brother, you have to understand my good intentions, big brother!”

“That’s right, boss. How can we just cut up these two pretty little ladies! Especially that slave girl in white, she’s top-quality goods! My entire life would have been worth living if I could have just one go with her! Am I right, brothers?” Dulang sang at the top of his lungs, trying to invite the rest of his brethren to change the mind of their big boss, Hu Dahai.

The sounds of cheering and whistling sounded. The bandits standing behind the boss were like a bunch of wolves in heat, and their eyes were glowing with greed.

“Damn it! Shut your mouths this instance!” The big boss Hu Dahai howled behind him. The bandits were so scared their lips were instantly sealed.

Seeing that everyone had finally quieted down, the big boss went on, “The sky is already turning dark today. Go and eat, second brother, third brother! Heixiong, bring these two girls to the woodshed. We’ll discuss how to deal with them tomorrow!” Then, the three bosses brought their bandits into the stronghold.

Lady Bao’er and Tao’er were thrown into a dusty woodshed, and the door was closed and locked tightly shut with chains from the outside.

The pale white moonlight shone in through the broken window of the woodshed, illuminating the place with its silver glow.

Lady Bao’er’s eyelids trembled, and she sat up abruptly, finally awake. All around her was an unfamiliar and dirty place. When recalling how she had been knocked out earlier that day, her heart cooled. This is not good. She quickly woke up Tao’er beside her.

Tao’er mumbled softly before gradually sobering up. As soon as she opened her eyes, she exclaimed, “My lady, where is this? Why are we here?”

Lady Bao’er walked to the window with her hand on her sore neck and looked out before sitting back down next to Tao’er, “Don’t you remember? We were knocked unconscious and brought here. Nobody seems to be keeping watch here, let’s see if we can escape!”

At this moment, the night breeze blew over, and the beast-like roars of drunken men could be heard. Both Lady Bao’er and Tao’er couldn’t help but shudder and held each other in fright.

As the moon slowly moved across the sky, the wailing and howling finally came to a stop. It was a cool night.

Dulang whose feet were swaying as he walked in his drunken state came to the entrance of the shed and kicked the door open. Even the thick chains and the rigid copper locks could not withstand his might.

The two little lambs holding each other was watching Dulang’s perverse smile in fright, and he continued tottering to them.

“Little ladies, big brother’s here to show you some love!” Then, he leaned down, wanting to pull apart Tao’er’s clothes.

“Get away from her! Don’t come any closer!” Lady Bao’er screamed and together with Tao’er, both of them reached out to push Dulang away.

Only to hear, with a bang, the half-opened door being kicked open again. “Luo Yu!” “Young Master Luo!” Lady Bao’er and Tao’er exclaimed together in surprise.
