AFTERWORD
This is the first installment of the newest series of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
In the end, I started another side story.
Personally, I would like this so-called “Chronicle” series to cover several characters. The top of the lineup was the elf at the tavern who is popular even in the main series, but I was thinking of changing the main character in the next book (of course, the batting order would cycle back around so that characters could get another book). I intend the Chronicle to touch more on the characters’ pasts that I could not really delve into in the main series or side story.
I wanted the elf from the tavern featured in this book to be properly connected to the main series, but I was a bit unsure about how far I should portray it. After thinking about it a lot, I wrote “Crush the Grand Casino!” to take place in the period of time between books six and seven of the main series, and “That Is a Benevolent Tavern ~ Girl Meets Girls ~” about how the tavern girls with dark pasts met before the start of the main series. Gangan GA published the former in short story form, and the latter was written for this book.
Even though I made it, I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the bounty hunter and assassin. Starting with a setting that had a vague “their past probably is sort of like this” feel, as I was writing it, I surprised myself, thinking, “Huh, she was under that god at the time?” Several points I hadn’t considered ended up connecting together as I kept writing. When things flow like that, it’s best for the author to just accept it, and rediscovering pairings of unexpected characters is the charm of this series. Even setting aside the main and side series, the setting of this book moves smoothly, so I hope people will enjoy that, too.
