Karina's Melancholy: Socializing
"Tama and Pochi have it so well."
"What's wrong~?"
"Pochi will listen nanodesu."
Karina-sama begins complaining to Tama and Pochi with a depressed look on her face.
It looks like she is having a rough time at the party here in Gururian Castle.
I talked to one of the maids, and she said the beautiful and naive Karina-sama was basically just a perfect plaything to the other noble ladies.
"Tama gets it~?"
"Pochi doesn't really get it, but got it nanodesu!"
After hearing Karina-sama's explanation, Tama and Pochi cross their arms and start nodding.
"Master~?"
"Cook a tasty meat skewer for Karina nanodesu!"
How would that help anything?
"Full belly, happiness~?"
"That's right nanodesu! Filling up your stomach makes you happy nanodesu."
I should have expected that answer from these two.
"I know right~. You just feel even more down when you're hungry."
Arisa joins in on the conversation. She sounds like she has experienced something like this before.
That's great and all, but I can't just go and cook some skewers in the middle of the castle.
"That part's easy!"
Arisa is full of confidence as she leads us to the servant's quarters in the castle's backyard.
She walks over to the bearded servant and discusses something with him.
"I got permission. We're free to cook whatever we want!"
That was some fairly impressive negotiation skill.
I take a sheet from the Garage Bag and lay it on the ground. On top, I start chopping up some Rocket Wolf and Red Deer meat.
"Looks tasty~."
"Pochi wants the brown wolf meat skewer nanodesu."
"Master, allow me to assist you."
"Thanks, Liza, should we add some chicken too?"
"Yes!"
Liza nods with a smile on her face as she adds some charcoal to the fire.
I soak the boned chicken into the sauce and sprinkle some salt on it.
I ended up preparing too much meat, but it'll probably be fine since the servants can have some too.
"Smells good~."
"Pochi loves the sizzling sound of the fat nanodesu."
The two look happy as they savor the smell of meat.
I hear the cute sound of a stomach rumbling, but it would be rude of me to look for the culprit.
"Alright, Karina-sama can have the first one."
"Do I just bite into it?"
Now that I think about it, Karina-sama always used a knife and fork during our journey to the giant's village. It looks like she has never eaten a skewer like this.
"Of course~?"
"When you bite into it, the juices come out and fill your mouth with happiness nanodesu!"
"That's right~, just have at it!"
With Tama, Pochi, and Arisa's encouragement, Karina-sama readies herself and takes a big bite.
She appears flustered as the piping hot meat juices flow into her mouth.
Focused on the meat skewer, she continues eating while oblivious to how dirty the sides of her mouth are getting.
Her face is completely serious.
"...Delicious."
"Tasty~?"
"Yummy is justice nanodesu!"
Karina-sama lets out a sigh of happiness as Tama and Pochi voice their agreement.
Since she's part of the nobility, Karina-sama won't be able to run away from socializing forever. For now though, she can forget about it and have fun in the moment.
As I watch Karina-sama laughing along with Tama and Pochi, I put the next set of skewers on the grill.
