THE AUTHOR, THE AFTERWORD, AND YOU!
Sorry to keep you waiting. Yes, I’m aware.
It’s been eleven months since Volume 16 of The Devil Is a Part-Timer! For what basically feels like a year, progress on the main story has ground to a halt. Volume 0-II, which came out between Volumes 16 and 17 in Japan, is naturally an indispensable part of building the Devil world setting, but a prequel is a prequel nonetheless.
So what have I been doing the past eleven months? As I think many of you know, I’ve written two new books— Diego no Kyojin and Yusha no Segare —as well as The Devil Is a Part Timer! High School N! , a self-written spin-off. Thanks to that, I’ve received some passionate support in the past year, along the lines of “You must spend every second writing Devil ,” “No snacks until you write another Devil volume,” and “Ah, Wagahara! Just one more before I die!”

This series has now spanned six years and seventeen official main volumes. My stock of dreams, the things I thought—“Boy, it’d sure be nice if I could write about this or that if this keeps up”—back when I started, has finally run dry. In order to stay fresh in my storytelling, whether with Devil or anything else, I needed to regain my thought process for building a story from scratch. But that’s my own issue, of course, so either way, I apologize for making you wait.
To make up for that (kind of), a new drama CD for The Devil Is a Part-Timer! is coming out in June 2017 in Japan, right after this volume’s release! It features the cast from the anime, of course, as well as a certain character who isn’t in the anime at all! Yes! Finally! I hope you’ll check it out!
As long as I’ve been doing this, I’ve made you wait quite a bit this time, but thanks to that, we have a fair amount more to offer. And as long as the people in this story have been engaged with it, they’re still living every day unfazed by the grind, thinking of the future, and appreciating everyone they’re with. I hope you’ll see them again in the next volume—and elsewhere as well.
Until then!
