Erin: “Now, let’s go!”
Note: “Please tell me where we are going……”
It is in the morning on my day off after we captured the 19th floor. I was staying in my room while making a plan on how I should spend my time off when suddenly someone knocked on my door. It was Erin who came to visit me. She was fully equipped with her robe and staff when she suddenly asked me to go with her. Her invitation is too sudden, that I can’t keep up with the situation. When she sees my bewildered facial expression, Erin adds more explanation in this way;
Erin: “Of course, we are going to the Valkyrie’s base house.”
Note: “Are you going to raid their base?”
Erin: “It’s not like that…, I’m going to ask Cassie to teach me spells. No matter how long I wait, Reese cannot persuade the old witch. Therefore, I’m going to directly ask her by myself……”
Just as Erin has said, according to Reese, persuading Cassie is very difficult. If this keeps going on, Erin might have to wait for an eternity to be taught spells by Cassie. Nevertheless, isn’t it reckless for Erin to directly asks her now? Moreover, she has just called her ‘old witch’…… If she calls her that right in front of her, she is just starting a fight, right?
Note: “Hmm……Will this work? If you say something rude like that, won’t you just be adding oil to the fire?”
Erin: “I’ll be careful when I am there……”
Are you sure it will be fine?
When I dubiously stare at her, Erin points at her mouth with confidence.
Erin: “Hey, lately I haven’t been talking harshly to Note-kun, right?”
Note: “Well, that’s……”
Erin: “Right? If I pay extra attention to it, it will be fine! So, ease your worries!”
Note: “I see, I see, then have a safe trip.”
I put my hands on Erin’s back to send her off. Immediately, those hands are slapped by Erin.
Erin: “Why do you try to send me off by myself?”
Note: “On the opposite, why do I have to go with you……?”
In the end, it will become like this. I was thinking that I could cheat her to let me out of it, but it did not work.
Erin: “Aren’t we become life and death companions on the 20th floor? When we are going to face a life or death situation, we should face it together, don’t you think?”
Note: “What! Forcing someone to die with you like that! I won’t go! I won’t deliberately put myself into a life or death situation! Honestly speaking, this is because of Erin’s fault. You provoked Cassie’s anger in the past!”
Erin: “That’s true, but……”
Stop begging me with trembling eyes. This request is something that I would like to reject right away, but it is too difficult to reject now.
Note: “Alright. But just for this time.”
Erin: “Thank you!!”
Erin jumps happily and clutches both of my hands. I find myself has become easily coaxed by Erin. If she had asked me in a commanding tone like in the past, I would have rejected her on the spot. Since she humbled herself to ask for my help, the feeling of wanting to help her began to sprout.
I start to think that I am actually a moron who is easily moved by affection.
Note: “I’m going to get ready, so wait a little bit outside.”
Erin: “Okay. Don’t jump out from the window and run away the moment you lose my sight, okay.”
No, I won’t do something that can be expected like that………
Erin: “This is the main base of Valkyrie……”
Note: “Uwaaa, we really have arrived here………”
We are looking at the stylish mountain cottage style house that is made out of timbers. The roof and the windows are decorated with fake flowers and vegetation. Compare to the Arriver’s party house, their main base is more elaborately decorated. The concept design shows individuality but all the elements are unified and bring out a natural feeling. As a whole, the house brings up a favorable impression.
Erin: “What’s with that reaction……”
Erin who is standing next to me is unhappy with my previous taunting remark.
Nevertheless, I can’t help it. After all, I have heard a lot of Cassie’s infamy reputation. The point is, I don’t want a dangerous person like Erin to meet another person who is as dangerous as her.
Note: “It’s not too late to turn back now, can’t we go back? As I thought, it’s better to give up the idea.”
Erin: “What are you saying when we are finally here now. It’s such a waste. I have gone through so many troubles to get here.”
Note: “Hey, do you really know how to be tactful? If your speaking manner stays like that, 100% for sure, you will pick a fight with her……”
Erin: “It’s fine! I will nail it!”
Erin raises her thumb up with a smile.
To be honest, I don’t know how come she feels that it will be fine. The only thing that I understand, is that she does not have any intention to back down.
Note: “Fine, I leave it to you. Quickly call and talk to her.”
Erin: “HEH?! Aren’t Note-kun the ones who are going to talk to her?”
Note: “At least please talk by yourself.”
As I have expected of her, this is how it goes, and I don’t want to follow her wish this time. When I wrinkle my face, Erin begins to snap out of it.
Erin: “Then, since I will be speaking to her, Note-kun, please stay close to me.”
Note: “That’s fine.”
I pull Erin’s arm and head to the door.
Note: “Just for precaution, don’t talk in a way that can provoke her, okay. Don’t talk about relationships with men, the age gap, or competing magical prowess between the two of you.”
Erin: “Note-kun, what do you think of me? Do you think I will be that stupid?”
After that conversation, I ring the bell that is next to the light-textured door. The bell rings and after waiting for a while, the silence continues. Both Erin and I are too nervous that we keep silent. Based on my <<Search Enemy>>, I can feel the presence of a person standing behind the door. However, that presence does not belong to Reese. Perhaps it’s another member of Valkyrie. That person immediately brings her body close to the door. It seems that she is peeking from the peephole to check on us. When I’m feeling nerve-wracking, suddenly I can sense enormous hostility from that person.
Note: “It’s dangerous, Erin!”
I rush toward Erin and push her to the side, away from the front door. There is a thundering roar that comes right after we jump, and the shockwave of the sound slams our bodies pretty hard. As I raise my head panickily, I see the place where we were standing before has become an empty lot.
Erin: “Eh? E? Wha what happens??”
Erin flusteredly looked around. Behind the smokes that blur out the vision, there is a shadow of a person standing still.
Cassie: “What is your business to come here, lass! Are you coming to pick a fight again!?”
A roaring angry shout can be heard from the shadow. After the smokes subside, there is a long-haired woman standing angrily with a vein popping up on her head. She is wearing a comfortable loungewear t-shirt with ¾-length navy blue pants, and she is also holding a staff in her hand.
Most likely, this person is the infamous Cassie. This is the first time I see her, but I notice her immediately because of her bloodlust that is directed at Erin. Anyway, is it normal to cast a spell the moment you see a stranger figure? To the point that you destroyed the entrance door of your own house? In addition, this is the first time in my life I meet someone that uses ‘lass’ to address another person. I thought that word is only used by old ladies in folk stories.
Erin: “It-it’s not like that! Actually, I want to ask for your help!”
Erin who lies below me, shakes her hands to clear up the misunderstanding. However, instead of calming her anger, Cassie is charging her mana into her staff.
Cassie: “I thought you just ask a man to accompany you to come here, but you actually come while being embraced by a man! Is he your boyfriend!? The man over there!? Are you planning to brag about having a boyfriend in front of me??”
Ah……Is she becomes even madder due to our current posture? She probably getting mad about me laying while covering for Erin, isn’t she?
When I recall, Erin was nervously clutching my arm when I rang the bell. Perhaps it loos like we are flirting in Cassie’s eyes.
What did you just do, Erin! Even though I remind her so many times to be cautious, I’m also partly to blame for not realizing it.
Erin: “What……boyfriend……Note is not yet……”
Erin, why are you being bashful in this kind of situation? You should frantically deny it!! The flame behind Cassie, is flaring more than before.
Cassie: “I’m going to kill the two of you!!”
Erin: “Stop! At least, let Note go!”
Cassie: “Still dare showing being lovey dovey! I decided! I will kill the man first!”
Erin, you really don’t know how to control the situation, do you? You are good at fanning it even bigger, huh? If you are doing it unconsciously, then it’s really frightening.
