Under Yan Cheng’s gaze, Chen Jinyao felt extremely bashful. She vaguely ate some dates and casually answered, acting as if she had listened to her mother’s advice and agreed.
She was scared that if she didn’t display her attitude, her mother would lecture her to death.
Talks about going on vacation during the Chinese New Year and coming over to celebrate in advance were just all schemes!
Had she known this would happen, she’d rather die than to come.
…
This was a difficult dinner.
In the end, Chen Jinyao almost dragged Yan Cheng and escaped.
She refused to listen. She refused to listen to them.
But even if she escaped from the dining table, she couldn’t escape the residence. Before leaving, Mother Chen pulled Chen Jinyao over to the side and asked, “Yan Cheng treats you well, right?”
As parents, no matter what, their hearts were biased towards their children.
“He treats me well. Don’t worry.” Chen Jinyao nodded.
She paused before saying, “I know how to live properly, and I will do so. Mother, you made me feel very awkward today.”
“What’s there to feel awkward about?” Mother Chen didn’t see her point. “I’m doing all this for you. I’m just scared that you…” She suddenly paused.
“Scared that I’d what? Scared that I’d do something shocking because of Huo Qidong? Mother, you never trusted me. I never did anything of that in high school.”
“Look at you. You still act like you don’t trust me.”
“No matter what, don’t do this in the future. I will live a good life with Yan Cheng. Now that you’ve done this, I have no idea what to do.” Chen Jinyao exclaimed all of this in one breath. She slightly knitted her brows and exclaimed. “Nevermind. Let’s not talk about it. It’s already 9pm. We need to go now.”
Mother Chen exclaimed, “Fine, I’ll just believe your words for now. Right, I packed some mutton soup for you. Take it along with you. You can drink it after heating it up.”
“…”

“My mother is really something. In the past, she urged me to get married, and now she is urging me to have children. She’s so scary.” Coming out of the Chen Residence, Chen Jinyao still had lingering fear.
Yan Cheng walked by her side and held her hands, a faint smile flickering in his eyes.
She came up with a conclusion. “They’re just trying to do everything to help stabilize our marriage.”
The moonlight was hazy and dragged the two’s shadows out.
