Monster Paradise Chapter 45

After setting 10 traps, Lin Huang carefully aimed at the totem and fired.

*Bang ! Bang ! Bang!*

Gunshot after gunshot rang out in the air as Lin Huang fired off 3 bullets. A moment later, a snapping sound could be heard as the totem broke in half. The 5 metre tall totem fell to the ground with a resounding thud, kicking up a dust cloud.

The minotaurs stood stock still in shock as the scene slowly registered in their minds. A short while later, the air was filled with the enraged howls of the herd of minotaurs. They charged in the direction of the gunshots with religious zeal.

Lin Huang kept his trusty eagle, took out his black iron combat blade and summoned Shirou for the impending melee. This was his blade’s maiden battle.

Allowing Shirou to kill the monsters gave him Prana but he missed out on the rewards for killing higher ranked monsters. The reverse was also true where he would then lose out on the Prana. Faced with this dilemma, he just decided to take a balanced approach and do both together.

The minotaurs,in their frenzied state, easily fell for the traps set up by Lin Huang’s team. Over ten minotaurs lost their lives in this initial charge. The Prana enhanced steel traps had a vise-like grip on these cows, slowly chewing into their flesh as they struggled in vain and finally died.

The other minotaurs still blinded by their rage, ignored their deaths and continued charging.

However, this wasn’t the teenagers’ first battle. Seeing the incoming herd, they divvied up the prey and attacked their allotted cows.

Lin Huang settled for a shorter minotaur. However, this wasn’t because he wanted a weaker opponent but rather that he couldn’t reach the fatal points on the larger minotaurs. Compared to his Three-star BlackIron teammates, his jumping abilities were lacking.

Looking at the taller minotaurs, he thought of a popular move from earth, “Do you believe with this jump, I will blow your knee away with one punch!? SHORYUKEN!”

This phrase seemed so apt against many of the monsters in this world.

Lin Huang’s height could be considered normal among his 15 year old peers, but against monsters such as these minotaurs, his 1.65 metres of height barely reached their waist.

However, this disparity only made him more excited.

He stood there with his black iron blade in hand, eyes locked on the incoming minotaur.

Under the sunlight, his pitch black blade glimmered, giving it the look of an obsidian blade.

The monstrous minotaur charged at Lin Huang in a maddening fury. Its hooves hammered the ground causing a minor tremor with every step he took towards Lin Huang. Its blood red eyes clearly visible as the minotaur closed the gap almost instantly. Its body twisted as it swung its giant rock hammer at Lin Huang with all its might, causing a shockwave through the air.

However to Lin Huang’s eyes, it seemed like the minotaur had suddenly slowed down. With a single step, he dodged to the side of the minotaur, causing its mighty swing to miss, and with a swift motion slashed at it.

A stream of blood gushed out from its waist, dying the floor red. A pained roar echoed in the surroundings as it desperately tried to stop the bleeding. With an arm covering its left waist, it stared at Lin Huang with barely contained rage in its eyes.

His blade left a metre long gash on its waist that was deep enough to reveal the damaged organs inside.

“As expected, the Grand Desolation Blade Scripture is scary. With my current strength, coupled with this normal combat blade, I was actually able to cripple this minotaur…”He mentally gasped at this fact. He originally thought that with the minotaur’s defenses, merely damaging him could be considered a victory. He certainly didn’t expect such an outcome.

Lin Huang’s Grand Desolation Blade Scripture had advanced greatly thanks to the Ethereal Perception state, rising to a Blue Skill Card with a ranking of Epic. This boosted the techniques available from 18 to 36.

These 36 techniques did not have a name but were an innate part of him. When the scripture turned into a skill card, it became imprinted in his brain. Thanks to this, the originally rigid techniques were to a limited extent customizable.

Lin Huang had a rough inkling of such a sensation. When he had absorbed the scripture as a skill, he had felt a transformative change in his blade techniques. Having just tested his blade techniques against the minotaur, he wad getting more and more assured that absorbing the scripture as a skill had caused his blade techniques to reach a new realm.

While the minotaur clearly hated Lin Huang and wanted to kill him, it also hesitated. Lin Huang’s one slash had severely injured it, striking fear into it. However, just as it was considering fleeing, it saw Lin Huang standing there in a daze. Seeing an opportunity, it immediately struck at him.

The gargantuan hammer swung out once more, if it hit Lin Huang, based on his current strength, he would probably be reduced to a pile of meat.

The familiar sound of the hammer’s shockwave brought Lin Huang back to reality. Seeing the incoming hammer, he ducked down and charged at the minotaur. With a vicious slash, he severed the minotaur’s arm from the bottom up.

The minotaur howled in pain as its arm was separated from its body, replaced by a blood fountain.

Lin Huang continued his furious attacks, stepping onto the minotaur’s knees, he leaped into the air and with both hands gripping his blade, slashed out.

A blood flower blossomed on its neck a moment later as his slash severed the minotaur’s arteries. The minotaur desperately held onto his throat with its last remaining arm while staring hatefully at Lin Huang. It wanted to howl at him but was no longer able to do so. A short while later, it died carrying this hatred and regret with it as its body collapsed lifelessly onto the floor.

[Congratulations Master, you have attained ----- Monster Card Minotaur fragment x1]

[Master has succeeded in killing a higher ranked monster, Reward ----- Temporary Transformation Card x1]

“Temporary Transformation Card? What the hell is that?” Hearing this name, he was suddenly reminded of a novel he read on a website known as Qidian. It featured gender bending as its main theme and focused on men turning into women. He felt a chill run down his spine as he thought of this point.

Putting aside this thought, he began inspecting the card.

On the card front, there was a picture of a man and a monster. Between them was a arrow that pointed at the monster.

Flipping to the back, he inspected the card attributes.

[Transformation Card: After using this card, Master is able to transform into any monster with which he has its summoning authority unlocked, and gain all its abilities. Duration: 24 hours]

[Note: This is a consumable item. It will be expended upon usage.]

Seeing this description, he heaved a sigh of relief. He even began to look forward to using this card. Changing into a monster is an interesting experience which he would definitely love to try if time allowed it.

Just as he was about to begin his daydreaming, he felt a hot smelly breath on his face. He immediately came to senses but only saw Shirou in front of him, his blood blades already piercing the source of this foul breath. Shirou had transformed his wings into blades and penetrated the minotaur’s skull from its mouth.

Due to its position, Lin Huang soon received a shower of blood and cerebral fluids.

He immediately reflected on his carelessness, “Daydreaming in the middle of a battlefield was a bad idea. If it wasn’t for Shirou, I would have been smashed into a pile of meat by that minotaur’s hammer.”

However before he could join in the fight, 20 minotaurs had already been killed with Shirou killing the most, a total of 6.

Lin Huang finally noticed the changes in his Life Wheel, 17 more gray sections got converted into white sections.

The team packed up their equipment and newly gained loot and set off once more. That battle had lit a fire in them, they were all itching for more monsters to kill.

However they did not get far before Lin Huang’s Imperial Heart Ring started vibrating, followed almost immediately by the rest of the team’s rings.

Opening up his inbox, he saw a message from Yi Yeyu which only contained a single line.

“The monster horde has invaded, get to the canyon entrance now!”
