Afterword

Thank you very much for buying this book.

If you bought volume 2, that means you probably bought volume 1 as well, and that led to this volume being possible. Really, thank you so much!

With the way things are going, continuing this series should be no problem, so a great “thank you” to everyone who found this series interesting. It’s said often enough, and it doesn’t really have anything to do with you readers, but for a series to continue it needs to sell at least a certain amount. So thank you in advance.

So, this is the afterword. I normally run out of things to say by the time I get to writing these, but this time I have something to talk about, so I’ll start from there.

When volume 1 went on sale, I started a Twitter campaign to pick names for some of the small-fry enemies. It was a really messy affair from start to finish, but in the end, the following two names won: Fehu Kazuno and Shiro. Congratulations!

They appeared and died in this volume already, so please look for them inside. Come to think of it, Fehu Kazuno is the writer of the series “My Sister is a Monster.”

“So, wait, you ended up picking one of your friends?!”

You may think that, but with only four entries, I couldn’t help it! This was the result decided on by the ultimate unbiased random number generator.

“Anyway, since they play around like this, I’d like to send in a submission, but I don’t use Twitter.”

I figured there might be some people like that out there, so I thought I’d try taking letters as well. We’re recruiting small-fry enemies for volume 3 onwards. That is my secret plan this time.

If I share my lottery plan for picking enemy names in the afterword, that should inflate the word count quite a bit! And after this volume, I can laugh about how few submissions I got, so I should be set for my afterwords for a while!

Here are the important points of the application. Please include the following:

The name of the character you want included.

Up to 140 characters about the character’s background.

Don’t feel like you have to write too much.

There is no particular deadline, but I will select winners around the time I write the next volume. I plan on picking two or three names, but it may change based on the story, so I appreciate your understanding.

Please send your entries to the following address:

Some important things to consider:

Inappropriate names and those of characters from other works will not qualify.

Names that depart from the naming sense of the story’s world too strongly will not qualify. So please read the book and think about it carefully.

If you tell me the character can shoot a laser that will destroy the entire world, that will be difficult to write into the story, so it won’t qualify.

Please try and make it something that sounds like it could show up in the story.

If you’ve read the book, you will probably already know how it works, but the characters will inevitably die before they’ve barely done anything, so please be understanding. “They died without saying a word,” “They died the moment they appeared,” “They died without even meeting the protagonist” are all possible situations.

If you want to include any setting information or pictures, please feel free.

That should be about it. From volume 3 onwards, their classmates and other monsters will start appearing, so that might come in handy when you are trying to think of your submissions. You can also send fan letters of any kind to that address, so I look forward to all of your submissions. I heard that if you ask for fan letters in your afterword then you’ll get a lot, so I figured I’d try it out. I’ve already published ten books, but I’ve never received a single one.

Next, I will talk about what was added compared to the web novel version of the book:

Added an interlude, discussing Lain’s clone and Euphemia, one of Yuuki’s bodyguards.

A bonus side story, continuing the side story from volume 1.

Added explanations and details about parts of the setting that were unclear.

Numerous corrections from proofreading.

And other such things. The main plot of the story has remained unchanged.

Hopefully that should fill up enough space. So my thanks.

To my director, my apologies for leaving things so close to the deadline.

To Chisato Naruse, who did the illustrations, thank you once again for your beautiful artwork. I’m especially thankful for the ten pieces of art you gave me for the Twitter countdown leading up to the release of volume 1. This must be what it feels like to respect someone so much that it hurts. The illustrations are on Miss Naruse’s Pixiv, so if you haven’t seen them, please go take a look. Every single one of them is great.

So, about volume 3. According to the sales figures of volume 1, as long as things don’t go horribly for volume 2, it should be safe to say the series will continue. But don’t worry, I won’t be taking it easy yet.

I very much look forward to your submissions. If possible, let’s meet again in volume 3!
