ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 357 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 357: Dragon! Dragon! Part 22 Part 1

「VyarararararararararararaaaaaAaAaAaAAAAAA!!!?」

The Great Red Devourer opens its remaining mouths and lets out a might scream. No, wait, it was something even greater and louder, calling it a simple scream here would not do it enough justice. And is it not a little bit rude here? Here I am, doing my best to deliver the best well-done dragon heads possible, and the only thing it can do in gratitude is to scream at me like that? …… No, that’s not it, either.

Sure, the regeneration powers of this beast are truly insane and it can surely be proud of them, but if I were to guess I would say that those powers were relaying completely on the total amount of small fries that were still remaining to it. The amount of small fries exhausted during the previous forms and that cyclops right now…… the total amount of small fries left, and maybe the total amount of HP remaining to it, it should be coming into the lower tiers, hopefully. No…… Maybe that’s not it here either.

To me, that scream right now was a more fundamental role rather than anything else. It was something triggered clearly by instinct rather than emotion, a response that a wild animal would have when its life was coming under the immense threat. It was not something that the head would come up with. It was a replaceable part for this monster. But its brain…… Now that’s a whole another story. So going by this logic, this scream was most probably not in response to the tri-headed Tyranno’s reemergence, but rather……?

「…… So, looks like we are in the clear for now?」

Basically, what was happening up until now was that knowing it would eventually regenerate its HP in the next form, the Great Red Devourer was not actively trying to evade our own attacks, face tanking them instead. But right now, especially when an attack such as “Tachikiri Wakachi” would make a direct hit on it, it would certainly force even a monster like that to back away a few steps and think about what it was going to do next.

It is just like with humans. We tend to run away or back away when we realize that our lives are in danger, and we would do everything it takes just so that we could escape from that immediate danger.

「You there, no way…… so, you actually have “weaknesses”? Is that what it is here?」

No way, this has to be a lie, hey…… Something like this just cannot be true…… So what does this all mean? That all this time we were being fooled but such a simple trick? No, it was making sure for us to stay away with a bunch of flashy and powerful attacks, so it was a given that we would assume that it has no weaknesses, but…… No way, for a raid monster to be like that, this is simply unheard of……!

「That big mouth…… No way, you have got to be shitting me, is there really something inside of it……!?」

Aaahhh! Yes, now I see it! Now it all is starting to make sense! The first form! The first form of this monster looked the most like a zombie and it was certainly behaving like one as well, so it must be somehow linked with the cause of death of the original body of this raid monster!

「And when it comes to that, you can certainly make a call about that right at the very first glance……!」

The clue here being, the first form of the Great Red Devourer…… No, it’s not that. It was most probably the deepest wound that was caused to the body of the original Eldranza. That chest wound that basically managed to scoop out the vast majority of its chest, so much of it that you could actually see its ribs if you were paying enough attention here.

So, in other words, this means more or less that……

Something that the rotting corpse was clearly missing, the chest that was basically split open…… So does this mean that there is something inside of there, ever since the third form of the Red Dragon manifested itself?

One after another, the questions that’s been just piling up until now were starting to become clear and connecting with one another, just like lines connecting the dots inside of the children’s coloring book.

But what exactly is that supposed to be? A benefit? A compensation? Maybe a reinforcement? Or maybe it was the way in which that primordial parasite judged it would be best to power up its host? By giving it a part of its former body that it was clearly missing? But could something like that really be called a power up?

It is true that in retrospect, all of the small fries were coming from the main body, either as a result of it directly splitting it in parts, or via the red tornado growing out of its back. And when you are fighting against a colony of monsters, you have to take into account that the small fries would do anything in order to protect their main body. Not to mention that the true atrocity of such monsters show in the fact that killing small fries is useless, since the main body will keep on bringing up more and more of them. So in theory, the only way for you to truly defeat such a monster would be to completely incinerate all of its body, so that not even a single cell would be left standing.

But if we apply that principles here, doesn’t that mean that the main body should also share at least a portion of the weaknesses of the small fries it produces? Like, the t fact that it can be slashed and chopped to pieces?

「In other words, this means……!」

Beyond its opened mouth, in the darkness of its bowels…… It is there. You can see it, a bright red sphere. That is this raid boss’s weakness.

All of a sudden, the vast and bottomless abyss that was this fight was no longer seeming so bottomless. From the cliff where I am standing, I can see a thin rope stretching all the way towards the other cliff that can be seen in the distance. That rope is called “strategy”. And just like the battle that brought death to Eldranza, we were supposed to recreate that scenario right now.

But what could have done a dragon like that in? In fact, I do have my share of guesses what could have competed against a sea dragon for underwater supremacy, but…… Wait, could it be that monsters can engage other monsters in gimmick battles just like we players can engage Unique Monsters in battle? That’s interesting of an concept, it would be worth of checking that out in the future if I have the time to spare. Because that’s highly likely at this point, but it’s better to have a way in which you can confirm it.

「Alright, for now let’s just do this…… OI, EVERYONE! GET YOUR ASSES HERE, PRONTO! STRATEGY MEETING TIME!!!」
