Vol.1 Chapter 6 Part 1

A tall pile of documents was stacked on top of the table. Sienna pressed her fingers to her temple and was lost in thought.

For the past few days, Sienna had gone through a large amount of information. She was currently trying to choose the people that would be working directly under her as the Silver King.

The gathered information was perfectly done. Personal details, work skills, even references of experience. She had enough information to determine whether a person was a good fit for the job or not. She was going to objectively pick the most talented people of the bunch. It was the most effective way and reduced the necessity of trial and error.

However, even though her head understood this, her heart rejected it.

'It just doesn't feel right.'

There wasn't a clear reason as to why she felt this way. Up until now, she had always used objectivity and reason to make all her decisions, and they had never failed her. So she didn't understand why she was hesitating.

A lady-in-waiting cautiously approached Sienna as she continued to grumble to herself.

"Your Majesty, an attendant from the Iron King's residence requests an audience."

"The Iron King's residence?"

Sienna pondered this for a moment before calling him in.

The attendant came in and lowered his head in a deep bow. He politely handed a letter to one of the ladies-in-waiting. The contents of the letter were straightforward. The Iron King was requesting her presence for some afternoon tea and a chat. Nothing was strange about the invitation.

Of course, Dian and Sienna were never on friendly terms to invite one another before.

'Is he trying to figure me out?'

This was a good opportunity. Now that Sienna thought about it, she had never had a proper conversation with Prince Dian. As long as he wasn't being hostile to her, there was no need to consider him an enemy.

"You may go back and tell the Iron King that I will go to see him soon."

The attendant looked surprised as if he hadn't expected this answer. After the attendant left, Sienna thought about his reaction. Even the attendant, who had gone through rigorous training for his post, couldn't help but be surprised by her answer. The meeting between the Silver King and the Iron King was definitely going to be fodder for gossip amongst the nobility.

If Sienna hadn't had those dreams, if she didn't know what would happen in the future, how would she have reacted back at the coronation and just now?

'I would have been very upset.'

She would have hated Dian for ruining her birthday and the most important day of her life. She would have thought that this half-breed had humiliated her and made her lose face. She would have been grinding her teeth due to the mortification. And she would have silently listened as the Red King cursed Prince Dian and agreed quietly in her heart.

'But Mother is unexpectedly quiet at a time like this.'

Sienna's heart was at peace. Even if her path took a few twists and turns, she would end up as the emperor one day. Ever since she was young, Sienna had never imagined a future where she didn't become the emperor. Everything would eventually come to pass, so there was no need to be impatient.

A lady-in-waiting spoke up.

"Your Majesty, the Red King has sent a message."

The day after the banquet, the Red King sent a lady-in-waiting to ask Sienna to come and visit her. However, Sienna had been busy with her staff appointment search and declined.

Sienna had not followed through with the Red King's request to hold her position at the banquet. Sienna believed that the Red King was only calling her to express her displeasure about this matter, and she was in no mood to listen to her lecture.

'I should go and see her today.'

Since a few days had passed, the Red King should have calmed down by now.

"Call them in."

"The attendant has already left. They only asked that I relay this message to you."

The lady-in-waiting handed Sienna an envelope. Sienna opened the document inside and chuckled.

'How thorough of her.'

They were applications.

"Tell the Red King that I'll go see her in the afternoon."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Sienna observed the documents and let out a strange laugh.

'She knows me very well.'

She had sent applicants that matched Sienna's tastes perfectly. Both their status and abilities were spot on. She didn't attach any notes of recommendation... As if their talents alone would be enough.

If she hadn't caught a glimpse of the future, Sienna would probably have chosen a personal secretary and the captain of her guards from these applications. Those two positions were incredibly difficult to fill.

'The problem is that I will never know whether these people will be solely loyal to me or whether they will go back and forth.'

There was a reason why Patricia recommended these people.

Sienna flipped through each page and looked at the portraits attached to the applications. She suddenly stopped when she saw one.

'This person is...'

She'd seen him before. He was one of the knights who had dragged out the envoy from Peroh outside the royal audience chamber. It was definitely him.

Tap, tap, tap. Her fingers tapped against the table. They stopped when she had finally reached a conclusion.

'I won't take him.'

She wouldn't take any of the people Patricia had recommended.
