Vol.2 Chapter 8 Part 8

The deaf sisters tidied up Sienna's disheveled dress. Sienna looked at her reflection in the mirror and glared at her lips.

Her lips were red and swollen. Because she had responded just as aggressively to the kiss, she couldn't blame Kuhn for putting her in this state. Now she needed to return to the Palace, but it didn't look like her lips would settle down in a couple of hours.

'I'm being worried for nothing.'

She just came to a realization. Who would dare stare at the Princess long enough to realize that her lips were swollen? She had spent too many hours with a man who would blatantly stare at her face, so she had forgotten this fact.

She could see Kuhn through the reflection in the mirror. He was staring at Sienna's back as he propped his chin in his hand. Today, she could clearly read his mind. He didn't hide the impatience from his face.

The man was fidgeting helplessly. Sienna didn't dislike the gleam in his eyes. He looked like he'd come running over with just a crook of her finger. Sienna pretended not to notice and asked.

"What about my carriage?"

"When will you leave the Palace again?"

Kuhn didn't answer her question and asked her something preposterous instead.

"I don't have any plans on coming out anytime soon."

"But you need to meet the storyteller."

"They said he usually doesn't come out during the daytime."

"Then you should come out at night."

"There are a lot of things to consider if I'm going to come out at night. And it's not like the storyteller will disappear. There's no need to hurry."

Sienna didn't notice the subtle change in Kuhn's expression. She had gotten used to speaking to him without any restraint. She was using a frivolous tone when speaking to him even though she had condemned this manner of speech before.

'I'm the only one in a hurry.'

Kuhn thought bitterly to himself. For her, today had no significant meaning. When would he see her again? He was the only one fretting as he thought this. A one-sided love was so miserable, but he couldn't give her up. This was because the moments they spent together were blindingly ecstatic.

"Are you going to stop coming out after only going on two outings?"

"I can't come out just for the sake of coming out. Then it will only be for the purpose of pleasure."

'Yes, you are quite amazing.'

Kuhn let out a frustrated sigh.

Silver King Sienna.

She was always quite stern with herself. Because she didn't give herself any wiggle room, it was absolutely tragic for him. However, he liked this side of her. He didn't just like her, he completely fell head over heels for her.

"How long have you been coming to the Palace?"

"I'm not sure. Probably about two years?"

"Two years? But..."

Why hadn't she seen him? Thankfully, Sienna realized this was such a stupid question and didn't let it escape her lips.

Because the Palace was so wide, it would be understandable if she hadn't seen him in even three or thirty years. If one didn't make an appointment, it would be hard to see them.

'I'm sure I can contact him through the Iron King.'

But what reason would she give to the Iron King? She would only look ridiculous. And she might also come between the two of them if she did that. She didn't want to do something like that.

'That man belongs to the Iron King.'

Almost as if it were an unspoken rule, the two of them didn't mention the Iron King at all today. Both of them knew the huge wall of reality standing between them.

'What purpose did he have to approach me?'

She still didn't know. She had received a lot of valuable help from this man. Rejecting Kuhn's offer to be her guide for another secret outing had been difficult for her.

If he was actually threatening or deceptive, she felt that he would have done something to her when they had left all of her guards behind. However, he didn't try to pick her brains or try to get any information out of her.

'I don't know what he's thinking.'

He had taken her to all of the places he had promised. And in return, he asked for something she hadn't expected.

When he asked for a kiss, she thought it was funny and felt relieved. It felt as if he didn't care that she was the Princess and just wanted her as a person.

'There's no way.'

Her own mother, whom Sienna had thought to be firmly on her side, didn't even see her purely as a daughter. She couldn't trust anybody.

"My carriage?"

"It's ready to leave whenever you're ready. I've already loaded the herbal medicine in your carriage."

As Sienna began to walk to the door, Kuhn hurriedly asked a question.

"Can I go see you?"

"No."

"I won't be a bother."

"You coming to see me is a bother in itself."

Kuhn's face hardened. Her firm rejection came as a shock. There was no crack in her blank expression. It was as if those heated moments they'd just shared were merely an illusion.

Kuhn's shaking eyes finally settled down. He silently gazed at Sienna before he walked past her and made his way to the door. He opened the door and stood to the side.

Just as she was about to pass him, Kuhn spoke up.

"I think we'll see each other by chance very soon."

He stressed the term 'by chance'. It pricked her curiosity.

Sienna didn't react. However, once she had exited the room and Kuhn was behind her, she couldn't help but bite her lip.

She never thought herself to be an unpredictable person. But she had to stop herself from asking him 'When?'. She felt a sense of anticipation when he said they'd meet again. On the other hand, she didn't want to see this man again. He was always causing tumultuous waves to rock her heart.

Her heart was torn and confused. She couldn't tell what she truly wanted.

The carriage departed from the safe house and raced along the main street. Someone watched as the carriage entered the Palace.

'The Palace?'

Leaning against a small coach, the man was deep in thought. The man with the dark chestnut hair was Martin.

Following Kuhn's orders, Martin was on stand-by in the back alleyway. From then on, he secretly guarded Kuhn and Sienna.

The place Kuhn had taken Sienna today was a blind spot in the Empire's public safety. It wouldn't be surprising if something troubling had occurred. Even in the fiercest battlefields, Kuhn would be able to get out unscathed, but it would be different story if he had to protect someone in the process.

The scariest thing was a blind attack. Even if one was equal to one hundred men, a blind attack would be difficult to escape. Kuhn didn't want to risk any danger today. If it hadn't been for Kuhn's strange instructions, Martin wouldn't have thought anything of it.

?If something happens, you must prioritize my companion's safety over mine. No matter what.?

Russ was usually the one who acted as the guard. It was strange that Kuhn had called for him instead of Russ. Something was off.

Kuhn's companion was a man. At least, from the outside, it looked that way. But Martin didn't believe everything he saw. He felt the urge to take a closer look, but he hadn't expected Kuhn's companion to stare back at him like that. He let out a sigh of relief when he managed to run out of the saloon unnoticed.

Martin's assignment ended once the two of them returned to the safe house. However, Martin didn't go back and continued to wait in hiding from a distance. He wanted to see if his hunch was correct.

A long while later, a swarm of people exited the safe house and stepped into their respective carriages. Martin didn't see Kuhn's companion among these people. However, he did see a lady with her face covered by a veil.

Martin was sure of it now. It was that woman. He followed the carriage. If Kuhn found out, Martin knew he'd get in trouble.

'But only Russ makes mistakes like that.'

Now that he'd begun this chase, he wasn't going stop here. In this way, Martin was a lot like Kuhn.

'The Palace? This isn't what I expected at all. Who can she be?'
