AFTERWORD

Thank you all for buying and reading the seventh volume of High School Prodigies.

I’m Riku Misora, the author.

This time around, the High School Prodigies series finally got a drama CD! I wrote some short single-character pieces as Blu-ray bonus items back when the Chivalry of a Failed Knight anime aired, but this was my first time writing a drama CD script with a full-fledged story. I have to say, it was pretty tough.

Of course, the original plan was just to choose a scene from the books to be voiced, but then I jumped in and was all, “It’s not every day these characters get to speak aloud, so I should celebrate by writing an all-new script!” so I really only have myself to blame, lol.

During the post-recording session, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning like an idiot. All the characters sounded exactly as I’d pictured them, and I think all of you who bought the version of this book with the drama CD included will enjoy it, too!

A big thanks to everyone involved in its production!

Regarding the story, the latest arc was kind of an experiment for me. I like to think that it was able to capture a different sort of energy than anything else I’ve written to date.

Thematically, I wanted to try writing a love story between a scumbag guy and a scumbag girl, and I think I did a pretty all-right job. By the way, if you take a look at Mayoi in the illustration of the lotus field scene, you can see that her appearance changed pretty radically between the past and the present. The transformation came about because she wanted to forget her life as Kaguya’s spare, so she bleached her hair and tanned her skin. Which look do you all prefer on her? Personally, I’m on Team Present!

This book marked the end of the Yamato arc. Starting next time around, the Prodigies will finally begin uncovering the truth about why they were called to this other world and what triggered their strange journey.

I hope you’ll continue accompanying them for a little longer.

Here at the end, I’d like to take a moment to thank all the people who helped make this book a reality.

Sacraneco, thank you for the illustrations, which were as fantastic as ever! Especially those ones! You know, those ones! The pinup illustrations at the beginning! It’s unreal how good they were. Unreal, I say!! I’ll treasure them forever!!

I’d also like to thank Kotaro Yamada, whose art in the High School Prodigies manga adaptation never fails to astound. Oh, to get pinned down by Dr. Keine and made into a very good boy…

Furthermore, a huge thank-you to the GA Bunko editorial department. We had to follow a pretty tight schedule this time, so thanks for sticking with me all the way through.

Finally, the biggest thank-you of all goes out to all you readers who’ve supported this series. I hope you enjoy the rest of the High School Prodigies story, and let’s meet again in the eighth volume.
