Chapter 13 Lushan Baomu (Survival Game)

The eyes of the youngster flashed and moved his mouth to start speaking. But before he could say anything, Xia Mo put the wooden plank on his head. She stared at him and muttered: “Speak the truth.”

These three words had removed any excuses that the youngster wanted to give, and with a terrified gaze on her, he replied softly,” My older brother had died.”

Xia Mo twitched her eyebrows. She knew the fact, but why was the youngster so insistent to be with her? She did not reply and look at him as a hint to continue. Seeing that Xia Mo did not have any intentions to attack him, he gulped and said,” I feel that you are very strong. And by following you, I will not die.”

Was this a reason? Xia Mo’s eyes subconsciously started to twitch again. (Translator Notes: The author has a tendency to use the movements of her eyebrows to express her displeasure.) Fine, she admitted that this reason was legitimate. She did not suspect the youngster would lie or scam her, as the game just started, and she did not have any enemies, and also she was not worthy to be remembered by anyone.

Therefore, Xia Mo trusted what the youngster said. In this world full of danger, it was a norm for the weak to rely on the strong for help, although she felt that she was not a strong player at this time. But comparing to the youngster, well she was really stronger by a few times.

However…

She glanced at the youngster for a long time and removed the plank from his head, and emotionlessly exclaimed, “Why should I bring you along? I don’t want any burden.”

The youngster quickly snapped back: “Sister, you are mistaken. I am useful!” He looked like he wanted to prove what he claimed, and retrieved some items from his bag. His action alerted Xia Mo, and she placed the plank back on his head. The youngster realized his stupidity in his actions had caused a misunderstanding and started to cry: “Sister, I do not mean any harm. I just want to show you this.” And in his hands, there were 2 herbs.

From one glance, she knew that they were the thistles. It was nothing to sniff at, but Xia Mo could not control her surprise. These 2 thistles were perfect, not a single leaf or root was damaged! Even though she already had the experience from her first life, she was still unable to gather the herbs with much success. But this youngster managed to do it?

“You went back to the starter village to learn the Gather skill?”

This possibility was low. First, he did not have the 10 gold pieces to pay the NPC to learn the skill. Most players could not afford it now too. Secondly, he was so weak that he could lose his life anytime if he was to travel back and fro from the starter village.

The youngster shoke his head, “I don’t dare to return.”

“Then how did you gather it?”, she grabbed one of the thistles in her hands and started to examine the herb again. It was perfect by looking at its condition.

“I come from a family who practised Chinese Medicine,” the youngster explained as Xia Mo’s killing intent was removed. Xia Mo gave him a piercing stare and he started to shiver, and he continued,” However, my grandfather only taught me how to gather herbs when I was young, so…”

He cried again under the intense stare of Xia Mo,” Don’t kill me. I have learnt a lot of herbs and I know how to gather them. Sister, please let me go and I will not create trouble for you… I don’t want to die.”

Xia Mo’s attention was captivated by the resounding words by the youngster in her head. “I have knowledge of herbs… I can gather them…” Xia Mo was emotionless. This eerie quietness made him nervous, like a helpless fish on a chopping board and waiting for the chef with a knife in his hand.

“Do you know any poison?” Xia Mo spoke after some time. Her indifferent voice had cause ripples of fear in him and he started to have cold sweat down his back.

“Yes…” the youngster looked at Xia Mo with a shivering voice. Her black eyes stared at him and he did not know what was happening, as though he was being petrified. He shouted with determination,” Yes, I know!”

Under the moonlight, Xia Mo who was only 20 years old, with her dark hair and slender limps, with her eyes half open, she looked at the youngster who had fell down. Her pale face smiled and looked like Shura from hell.

“Those who lie to me shall die, you have to remember that.” Xia Mo said gently in a dull tone. Lushan Baomu (Translator note: also known as the youngster) took the thistles in his hand and started to mesh the herbs up, followed by squeezing of all the juices out. His actions were smooth without unnecessary movements, and looked like someone who was used to performing such chores.

————————————————————————————————————————————

He took a bite out of the grilled fish in his hand and hesitated before saying,” Liu Huo sister, are you going to kill someone?”

Xia Mo replied immediately,” Although the objective of the game was to kill players, but, doing this now was a waste of time.”

During these 2 to 3 days, Lushan Baomu wanted to prove that he was a useful person. He volunteered for chores to do. When he was killing monsters, he would seriously watch and learnt Xia Mo’s attack pattern. After that, he would gather the corpses of the monsters. During his free time, he would gather the herbs. During his resting time, he would even fight for the role of the chef. He was especially obedient.

Lushan Baomu wanted to get into the good books of Xia Mo. She was used to having him as a liability, since his starting Wisdom was as high as 13 points, had the knowledge for gathering herbs. These few days of activities had increased her Savviness and Wisdom. Her instinct was telling her that being with him as a comrade would not be a disadvantage.

Listening to how Xia Mo would take away someone’s life as something so normal, and already knew that from the start, but Lushan Baomu was still afraid. He moved his mouth as though he wanted to say something, but he kept silent and took another bite of the grilled fish.
