Chapter 5: Holy Kingdom of Rachelle
Part 1
Night.
Fred had come to a deserted back alley.
He was shaking with fear and was constantly looking around him.
Recently there had been several incidents against officials and Fred was worried that it was him who might be the next target.
Then, beckoning him, he found a hooded woman hiding in the darkness.
The woman removed her hood as Fred approached. The hooded woman was Merce.
"You're late, Fred."
Fred is a nobleman who works as a doctor in the royal palace, but Merce does not like that. she spoke in a cold tone. However, Fred, who was in a vulnerable position, said nothing and handed her the package he had brought.
"I brought what I promised you."
Checking the contents, Merce picked up the small vial and gave Fred a mischievous smile.
However, there was an eerie light at the bottom of her eyes.
"I'm glad you brought it to me. Now you have fulfilled the conditions that wanted, right?"
The vial contained a poison that Merce had asked Fred to prepare.
—... It is slow in acting, tasteless and odorless. It won't feel strange when you combine it with a drink.
Now that I've prepared it, can I count on you to keep your word?
"I'll keep your secret quiet. Even so, how dare you betray your friend, his Majesty?"
Merce started teasing Fred and put away the small bottle of medicine.
Then, she grabbed Fred's chest and pulled him closer.
"When that incompetent king collapses, you must act as planned. You can take the time it takes to confuse things."
Fred looked pale as he was being interrogated by the menacing Merce.
"W-What are you trying to do?"
Then Fred was pushed by Merce, falling on his butt.
Then Merce looked at Fred and laughed with a nasty expression.
"You don't have to know anything, but I'll tell you something special. The day is coming when the kingdom will revert to its original shape. Is it Not exciting?"
After saying that and leaving in a good mood, Merce headed to the restaurant where Roland is expected to be in.
