AFTERWORD

Hullo, Kumo Kagyu here!

How did you like Goblin Slayer: Year One?

It was the story of the first year Goblin Slayer slayed some goblins that had appeared.

I really put my heart and soul into this book, so I would be thrilled if you enjoyed it.

“Side Story”! When you say those words, it usually involves something like becoming a knight, but here we are.

I was actually really surprised when I was invited to do one.

I looked at my bookshelf, hoping for some inspiration, and saw a lot of Year One and Returns and Gaslight.

It’s a bit too early for Returns, although I wouldn’t mind doing a Gaslight story set in the nineteenth century.

But my dream was definitely Year One.

Every man wants to write a Year One story for the hero he created.

And so Year One it was. Hooray!

Goblin Slayer as we know him in the main series is already a seasoned adventurer. It was really fun writing the story of how he got his start as a level-one adventurer with no experience.

Plus, now that Year One is getting a manga adaptation, I can celebrate.

I guess it’s really worth it, this struggle to live month to month.

Adachi-sensei, thank you so much for the illustrations. Cow Girl and Guild Girl look so innocent…!

Sakaeda-sensei, I’m so grateful for the manga version! Everyone is cute and sexy!

To my readers, thank you for all your support ever since my web novel days!

To all those who run the summary sites, thank you for always including my work.

To all my gaming friends, and all the other creative types in my life, thank you for the time you spend with me!

To all the editorial staff and everyone else involved with this book, thank you for all your help!

Novice adventurers always start out full of dreams. As they grow and mature, they want to do this and that, take down enemies and generally look cool, maybe get some treasure.

Each of them comes to adventuring with their own equipment, ideas, and philosophies.

That’s very important and is something we should encourage and value.

Sometimes, the dice go against you and you die, but that’s just the way it is.

If any of that came across in this book, even a little bit, then I’ve succeeded.

I hope I can communicate the same things in my next story.

I’ll keep on putting everything I have into writing these books, so I hope you’ll continue to read them.
